The Role of Corporate Social Responsibility on the Relationship of Competitive Pressure and Business Performance of Batik Industry in Central Java, Indonesia

  • This study aims to document empirically the mediating role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on the influence of competitive pressure toward business performance on the batik industry in Central Java, Indonesia. This study also examined the effect of competitive pressure and CSR on business performance of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the batik industry in Central Java. This study used an explanatory quantitative approach. Samples of 254 MSEs in the batik industry have been successfully collected. Hypothesis testing uses SEM-PLS. The results of this study indicate that competitive pressure has a positive and significant effect on the batik MSEs business performance in Central Java. Competitive pressure also has positive direct effect on corporate social responsibility, and CSR has a significant and positive direct effect on business performance. The results of this study have successfully documented empirically that CSR has a mediating role on the relationship of competitive pressure toward business performance in the batik MSEs in Central Java, Indonesia. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the owners of the batik MSMEs in coping with competitive pressure by using CSR as a strategy to create uniqueness that is difficult to imitate and can create an organizational reputation that eventually can increase business performance.

  • The computer system validation consulting industry is growing as domestic GMP companies' overseas exports or advancements increase, and computer system validation has been mandatory in Korea since the 2010s, but domestic CSV consulting companies are small in size and have a short history, revealing many shortcomings in terms of service quality and customer satisfaction when conducting consulting. Research related to consulting has been mainly focused on management consulting and IT consulting, and research related to computer system validation is very insufficient. This study confirmed the effect of consultant competency and service quality on consulting performance, customer satisfaction, and intention to renew contract when performing computer system validation through empirical research on food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and medical device companies, which are representative companies in the GMP industry. As a result, it was confirmed that consultant competency and service quality had a significant effect on consulting performance, customer satisfaction, and intention to renew contract. In addition, it was confirmed that the reputation and expertise of consulting companies had a moderating effect on the relationship between consultant competency and consulting performance.

외식 프랜차이즈 고객의 획득효용과 교환효용이 고객충성도와 고객시민행동에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Franchise Customers' Acquisition Utility and Exchange Utility on Customer Loyalty and Customer Citizenship Behavior)

  • Purpose - Customer loyalty and citizenship behavior are key success factors of franchise system. They make the management of franchisee more effective and efficient. Prior studies, however, mainly dealt with only acquisition utility of customer, such as perceived product/service quality and brand reputation to explain customer loyalty and citizenship behavior, which explains only on one side. We tried to investigate the effect of exchange utility of customer, such as relationship strength and psychological obligation together with the acquisition utility. In addition, we tried to investigate the relationship between customer loyalty and citizenship behavior in franchise context. Research design, data, and methodology - This study used data collected from the dining franchisee managers of 342 franchisors in South Korea. The franchisors consist of more than ten franchisees, the majority of which participated directly in the transaction with franchisor and have worked for more than six months. To test the hypotheses, the study used structural equation model analysis. Results - H1-1, 1-2, 1-3 predicted that acquisition utility would increase customer loyalty to franchisee. In support of H1-1, 1-2, 1-3, the results indicated that acquisition utilities such as perceived product value, perceived service value, and franchise brand reputation had positive effects on customer loyalty. H2-1, 2-2 predicted that exchange utility would increase customer loyalty to franchisee. In support of H2-2, the result indicated that psychological obligation had positive effects on customer loyalty like other acquisition utilities. However, H2-1 was not supported. Relationship strength had no significant effect on customer loyalty. H3 predicted that customer loyalty would increase customer citizenship behavior. In support of H3, the results indicated that customer loyalty had positive effect on customer citizenship behavior. Overall, the evidences generally supported the hypotheses. Conclusion - The results of the study show that not only acquisition utility but also exchange utility increases customer loyalty to franchisee and also show that customer loyalty increases customer citizenship behavior. Interestingly, however, relationship strength has no significant effect on customer loyalty. These results have two implications. The one is that increasing exchange utility can improve customer loyalty as acquisition utility can. The other one is that both of customer utilities can improve customer citizenship via customer loyalty.

  • Purpose - Recently, although corporate social responsibility activities have been increasing in size, they do not have to achieve qualitative improvements and can be passive and cost consuming. Therefore, companies should make quantitative as well as qualitative improvements in their efforts in corporate social responsibility activities. In this study, the classification of social responsibility activities in a variety of studies was analyzed through a more specific path than in previous studies. Corporate behavior image, social behavior image, and corporate contributions image were analyzed through a more detailed analysis of performance. This study suggests that more detailed and concentrated social responsibility activities be pursued by forming companies. Research design, data, and methodology - The purpose of study is to gauge the corporate need for a more intensive, specific area of CSR activities. For this purpose, the sample of consumers that were targeted for CSR activities, recognized as 261 persons, have been investigated. Through a theoretical discussion on previous research, nine hypotheses were established on corporate image, the influence of corporate performance on CSR, and the CSV regulation effect. In order to test the hypothesis, a survey was conducted on 261 male and female consumers who were targeted for CSR, being persons in their 20s to 40s. PASW Statistics 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 were used for statistical analysis. Results - Corporate behavior image was formed through legal responsibility activities and economic responsibility activities. In addition to economic responsibilities, ethical responsibilities and environmental responsibilities were confirmed to have influence on social behavior image. Corporate social responsibility and philanthropic responsibility were confirmed to have influence on economic contribution image. Corporate image has positive effects on brand attitude, corporate reputation, and corporate competition. In addition, when CSV awareness is high, consumers perceive corporate image only through economic responsibility. However, when CSV awareness is low, economic responsibility as well as legal responsibility through charitable activities form the corporate image that influences the brand attitude and corporate reputation, as well as corporate competitiveness. It would appear that the area of corporate social responsibility needs more intensive management for corporate image and corporate competitive advantage. Conclusion - First, the findings of this study show that each CSR activity has a different effect on corporate image and thus, the corporate image influences corporate performance in distinct ways, depending on the CSR activity. This implies that reactive strategies should be tailored to the required image. Second, there is a difference in CSV awareness between groups. When the CSV awareness is low, we can confirm that legal responsibility activities have an especially significant effect on corporate image, implying that corporations should pursue their economic objectives within legal regulations and need to invest significant time and effort for this. This study has limited generalization potential because the result of the model fit has insufficient reference value. In future research, we need to approach various dimensions of corporate performance.

디자인기업에서의 관계마케팅이 신뢰와 관계지속의도에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Relationship Marketing in Design Companies on the Trust and Intent of Relationship Maintenance)

  • 본 연구는 기업에서, 특히 디자인기업에서 관계마케팅이 기업이미지, 기업의 신뢰, 그리고 그 기업과의 관계에 대한 지속의도에 미치는 영향을 분석 후, 기업에 종사하는 구성원들과 그 기업의 서비스를 이용하는 소비자(사용자)간의 업무와 소통에서의 관계 정립을 살펴보고, 상호간 관계지속의도의 영향을 실증하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구방법은 먼저, 이론적 고찰을 정립하기 위해, 이미 발표된 국내·외 논문, 학술지, 간행지, 단행본, 인터넷 등을 살펴본 후 수집한 자료를 바탕으로 분석하였다. 또한 객관적 타당성과 실증적 증명을 위해 서울, 경기도에 거주하는 디자인 기업 종사자들을 대상으로 약 2개월에 걸쳐 수집한 설문자료를 분석하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째 관계마케팅과 신뢰 간의 관계를 검증한 결과 기업의 커뮤니케이션과 기업평판은 신뢰에 유의한 영향을 미치는 반면, 기업의 전문성은 신뢰에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 관계마케팅과 지속의도 간의 관계는 전문성, 커뮤니케이션, 기업평판 등 모든 변수가 지속의도에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 검증되었다. 셋째, 기업의 신뢰는 지속의도에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 결론부분에 이와 관련된 연구의 시사점 및 한계점을 제시하였다.

The Impact of Overvaluation on Analysts' Forecasting Errors

  • Purpose: This study investigated the effects of valuation errors on the capital market through the earnings forecasting errors of financial analysts. As a follow-up to Jensen (2005)'s study, which argued of agency cost of overvaluation, it was intended to analyze the effect of valuation errors on the earnings forecasting behavior of financial analysts. We hypothesized that if the manager tried to explain to the market that their firms are overvalued, the analysts' earnings forecasting errors would decrease. Research design, data and methodology: To this end, the analysis period was set from 2011 to 2018 of KOSPI and KOSDAQ-listed markets. For overvaluation, the study methodology of Rhodes-Kropf, Robinson, and Viswanathan (2005) was measured. The earnings forecasting errors of the financial analyst was measured by the accuracy and bias. Results: Empirical analysis shows that the accuracy and bias of analysts' forecasting errors decrease as overvaluation increase. Second, the negative relationship showed no difference, depending on the size of the auditor. Third, the results have not changed sensitively according to the listed market. Conclusions: Our results indicated that the valuation error lowered the financial analyst earnings forecasting errors. Considering that the greater overvaluation, the higher the compensation and reputation of the manager, it can be interpreted that an active explanation of the market can promote the accuracy of the financial analyst's earnings forecasts. This study has the following contributions when compared to prior research. First, the impact of valuation errors on the capital market was analyzed for the domestic capital market. Second, while there has been no research between valuation error and earnings forecasting by financial analysts, the results of the study suggested that valuation errors reduce financial analyst's earnings forecasting errors. Third, valuation error induced lower the earnings forecasting error of the financial analyst. The greater the valuation error, the greater the management's effort to explain the market more actively. Considering that the greater the error in valuation, the higher the compensation and reputation of the manager, it can be interpreted that an active explanation of the market can promote the accuracy of the financial analyst's earnings forecasts.

  • Background : Evaluation of patient's satisfaction is one of the most important aspects of quality improvement. If the patient highly satisfies with the medical service provided in the hospital, he/she will be likely to visit the same hospital again. Patient's satisfaction of a particular hospital is directly correlated with hospital profits as well as reputation in the community. For this reason, various kinds of survey measuring satisfaction level have been performed and many kind of QI activities for enhancing the profits as well as reputation in the community. For this reason, various kinds of survey measuring satisfaction level have been performed and many kind of QI activities for enhancing the patient's satisfaction. This study is to find the effect of hospital QI activities on the patent's satisfaction level. Methods: After questionnares were developed, survey of measuring satisfaction level was performed in August, 1998. On the basis of survey results, QI activities were carried out to attain the target point of 4.0 and subsequent survey was done in November, 1998. Results: With three main principles of "problem solving approach with kindness". "helping patient to participate in medical procedure with sufficient information", and "putting employees into practice of attitude with human respect", the average level of satisfaction was enhanced from 3.45 to 3.55 level. Also kindness level of employees was increased from 3.71 to 3.82. Level of dissatisfaction about insufficient explanation and unkind attitude was dropped from 69% to 48% and from 82% to 46% respectively. Conclusion: With the result of this study overall satisfaction level was enhanced. In order to keep these advantages a operation of Quality Improvement Task Force Team in each subject will be required.

대학의 역량과 내외부 자원이 교수창업 성과에 미치는 영향 (An Analysis on the Effects of University Capacity and Resources on the Professor Startups' Performance)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라 대학의 교수들의 창업 및 그 창업기업들의 성과에 영향을 미치는 요인을, 대학의 규모와 명성, 대학의 산학협력조직 및 제도, 대학의 연구 및 사업화 자원, 대학의 지식재산 규모 및 학생창업 성과 등 대학의 역량과 자산을 중심으로 분석하였다. 기본적으로 대학알리미 정보를 활용하고, 대학의 명성 및 대학 외부사업 등 관련기관의 발표자료를 활용하여 총 150개 대학에 대하여 분석하였다. 자료 분석 결과, 대학의 명성이나 규모는 교수창업이나 교수창업기업의 성과에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않지만, 연구나 사업화를 위한 교내외의 자원과 대학의 대표적인 지식자산인 특허는 교수창업에 유의하게 긍정적인 영향을 미치고, 특허 규모나 창업 관련 정부사업의 수행은 교수창업기업의 매출액에 유의하게 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 보여주었다. 또한, 학생창업의 규모는 교수창업의 숫자나 그 매출액에 유의하게 긍정적인 영향을 주고 있어서, 상호간에 긍정적인 시너지 효과를 발생하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구 결과는 기업가적인 대학을 지향하는 대학들과 기술창업 활성화를 추진하는 정부에 교수창업을 활성화하기 위하여 집중해야할 자원이나 제도 개선 분야에 대한 시사점을 제공한다.

패션브랜드에 따른 상품속성과 브랜드 태도에 관한 연구 (The Study on Goods Attributes and Brand Attitude by Fashion Brand)

  • The purpose of this study is to 1) understand the importance of brands, which are known as one of the key purchasing points to consumers today; 2) 10 clearly clarify the various attributes of goods well-known to consumers; 3) to research the effect of the goods attributes on brand attitude. We examined 465 consumers to understand a purchase or a shopping habit with national and non-brand. The study used SPSS 11.0 package for a data analysis. Then using varimax rotation, we employed a factor analysis to analyze the data and obtain Cronbach ${\alpha}$ value. For more specific data analysis, we conducted t-test, regression analysis, and x2 analysis. The results are as followings: 1. The goods attribute is classified into product attribute, shop attribute, and price attribute. The product attribute is divided into wearability, labeling of size and quality, aesthetic expression, brand expression-harmony, textile-suitability, manageability and product assortment. The shop attribute is into shop environment, shopping convenience, promotion, salesperson service, convenience of location, shop's reputation. The price attribute is into price reasonability, price value, price economy, and price information. 2. The product attribute is different, by national and non-brands, in wearability, labeling of size and quality, brand expression-harmony, textile-suitability, manageability. The shop attribute had a significant difference in environment of shop and its reputation, and the price attribute had one only in price economy. 3. The brand attitude was affected by wearability, aesthetic expression, shop environment, price value, and price information. 4. Also, there exists a difference by demographic variables(age, job, academic background, marriage, income level) in brand attitude. For example, national brands have its consumers with the following variables: higher education, higher income, professional job, over 20s, and married.

블로그 사용의도에 영향을 미치는 사회 동기적 요인 (Social Motivational Factors Influencing the Intention to Use of Blog)

  • 최근 블로그가 새로운 미디어로서 대중적으로 널리 사용되면서 사회 전반에 걸쳐 영향력을 확대하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 블로그 사용에 영향을 미치는 사회적 동기 요인을 조사하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 기술수용모델과 사회적 동기이론을 기반으로 하여 인지된 유용성, 인지된 사용 편의성과 평판, 호혜성, 돕는 즐거움, 사회적 정체성이 블로그 사용의도에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인으로 파악하였다. 한국에서 대중적인 블로그 사이트인 네이버 블로그, 싸이월드 미니홈피, 다음 블로그, 야후 블로그 등의 사용자 342명으로부터의 온라인 설문을 통해 수집된 데이터를 실증적으로 평가한 결과, 인지된 유용성, 인지된 사용편의성, 호혜성, 사회적 정체성이 블로그 사용의도에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 호혜성과 돕는 즐거움이 블로그 사용의도에 미치는 영향을 조절하는 요인으로서 사회적 정체성이 중요함을 밝혀냈다. 본 연구결과는 블로그 사용의도에 영향을 미치는 사회적 동기요인의 중요성에 대한 이론적 기틀을 마련하는 데 공헌함과 동시에 블로그 서비스 기업에게 사용자들의 사용의도를 높일 수 있는 전략적인 정보와 가이드라인을 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
