  • Notice: This article has been retracted as a result of the review (on May 14, 2024) by the Research Ethics Committee of the Korean Society of Remote Sensing, which confirmed research misconduct (plagiarism). The Korean Journal of Remote Sensing (KJRS) Editorial Office received a report alleging plagiarism in a paper published in KJRS authored by Zong and Kohani (2021). Following a thorough investigation by our Research Ethics Committee, we found significant similarities between the original paper (Lee and Mortari, 2017) and the paper (Zong and Kohani, 2021) published in KJRS. The scope of the plagiarism included a number of identical figures, tables, and equations, as well as textual content. As a result, the Research Ethics Committee of the Korean Society of Remote Sensing has decided to retract the paper (Zong and Kohani. 2021) for deliberately using the ideas, research content, and results of others without proper approval or citation. To preserve academic integrity, we take responsibility for enforcing ethical policies and proceeding with the follow-up actions: 1. Disclosure and preservation of the facts and reasons for the retraction of the plagiarized paper, 2. Prohibition of submissions for the next three years for the authors of the plagiarized paper, 3. • Criminal media such as dramas and movies are growing in popularity. However, the effects of criminal media as well as its psychological mechanism are not clearly examined. Based on social learning theory (Bandura, 1978), past studies showed that arrest and punishment to the criminal in media have a suppressing effect. The present research examined the ironic possibility that media coverage of punishment could increase the audience's criminal intention and proposed the mediating role of counterfactual thinking in the effect. We hypothesized that when punishment was depicted as accidental rather than unavoidable in media coverage, perceived high mutability and counterfactuals focusing on the accidental factors could clarify the ways to commit the crime without being caught and subsequently increase future criminal intention. In this study, 95 college students read a story of plagiarizing either no, accidental, or inevitable punishment, and later asked to report their intention to plagiarize. An ANCOVA with participants' own history of plagiarism as a covariate found that the intention of plagiarism in future was significantly different. The results showed that the intention of plagiarism in the accidental punishment condition was higher than that in the inevitable punishment condition. Further, the intention of plagiarism in the accidental punishment condition was the same level with non-punishment condition. The findings suggest that whether criminals are caught or not is not enough to reduce criminal intentions of audience, but how criminals are caught matters.

  • This paper emphasizes writing education for engineering students should be communication driven writing education based on KEC2005. Communication driven writing for engineering students is essentially same as Technical Writing(TW) developed on the basis of ABET. Considering the current writing capability of engineering students and social need for various types of writing, TW education should be divided into two courses: basic and advanced. This paper deals with contents of a basic TW course in Myongji University, as a model case of a basic TW course for engineering students. It underlines various methods of prewriting that should be stressed and practiced in the TW class, because the prewriting step in the writing process determines the overall direction and structure of an essay. In particular, this paper introduces Power Writing(PW) which uses the structure of a paragraph as a means for providing building-blocks for the essay, employing logic, and ordering information arrangement in a paragraph. This paper also deals with important guidelines about sentence structure and word selection and proposes various applications of TW such as resume, interview, proposal, report, and presentation as a latter part of the basic course. Finally this paper highlights the etics of writing, such as plagiarism and the basic principles of quotation.
