  • To analyze a bond stress-slip behavior between a reinforcing bar and concrete under repeated loading, pull-out fatigue test was performed. Major variables were repeated stress levels and cycle numbers. Test specimen was taken repeated constant amplitude loading before it was fractured by pull-out test. Increments of bond strength and slip according to repeated stress level and cycle numbers were analyzed.   • The crack widths of reinforced concrete flexural members are influenced by repetitive fatigue loadings. The bond stress-slip relation is necessary to estimate these crack widths realistically. The purpose of the present study is, therefore, to propose a realistic model for bond stress-slip relation under repeated loading. To this end, several series of tests were conducted to explore the bond-slip behavior under repeated loadings. Three different bond stress levels with various number of load cycles were considered in the tests. The present tests indicate that the bond strength and the slip at peak bond stress are not influenced much by repeated loading if bond failure does not occur. However, the values of loaded slip and residual slip increase with the increase of load cycles. The bond stress after repeated loading approaches the ultimate bond stress under monotonic loading and the increase of bond stress after repeated loading becomes sharper as the number of repeated loads increases. The bond stress-slip relation after repeated loading was derived as a function of residual slip, bond stress level, and the number of load cycles. The models for slip and residual slip were also derived from the present test data. The number of cycles to bond slip failure was derived on the basis of safe fatigue criterion, i.e. maximum slip criterion at ultimate bond stress.

마우스에서 반복적 저산소 스트레스 정도에 따른 면역동성 효과 (Effects of Different Intensities of Repeated Hypoxic Stress on Immune Functions in Mice)

  • To study the nature of differentially manifested adaptive response of an organism according to the intensities of the stress, the immune effects of different levels of repeated hypoxia were investigated. Four experimental groups (NH : not -handled, 20% : handled, 15% or 10% : exposed to 15% or 10% $\textrm{O}_2$ 씨오투 with balanced nitrogen, respectively) of mice were exposed to different levels of hypoxia for 60 min/day, 5days/week in a repeated and intermittent manner. After 8 weeks' exposure to hypoxia environment, mice were subjected to immune function measurements, A decreased proportion of CD3+ CD8 phenotype cells in the study of splenocyte subsets was observed in the 10% group. Ovalbumin-stimulated IgG2a production was increased in the 15% group, while no changes were noted in the IgGl and IgM production. No significant changes of the antigen-stimulated splenocyte proliferation and the natural killer cell cytotoxicity were found. These results show that the stress effects on the immune systems can be varied according to the strength of the stress and that a mild level of repeated hypoxic stress can enhance the immune function of mice in this experimental model.

반목하중으로 인한 지반의 변형 예측 (Approximate Prediction of Soil Deformation Caused by Repeated Loading)

  • The Repeated Load Triaxial and Oedometer Tests to the weathered granite & silty clay soil have been fulfilled to investigate their dynarnic characteristics. The results obtained are summarized as follows ; 1. In the relation between the repeated triaxial compression and the oedometer test, the recoverable strain of weathered granite soil showed a tendency to decrease by the increase of the repeated loads number(N), and that of silty clay showed approximately constant values while the total strain increased continuously. 2. The changes of plastic strain was dependent to the level of deviator stress which is the most important element in the calculation of soil deformation under repeated load condition. And there was a significance of 10% between the level of stress and plastic strain. 3. When the soil was aimost dried or saturated to 100%, the deformation by the repeated loads was small. However the deformation showed peak around the saturation of 50%. 4. When the deformation was predicted by the repeated triaxial load tests of a laboratory, it is desirable to introduce the threshold stress concept in the calculation of deformation of subgrade of the pavement. 5. The improved design equation (Eq. 16) introducing the modulus of conversion(Fo), which is based on the Boussineq' s theory, is considered to be rational in the design of flexible pavement. From the above results, the deformation to the repeated traffic loads could be predicted by the repeated triaxial tests on the pavement materials or undisturbed soil layers, therefore it is think that the durable and econornic pavement could be constructed by reflecting that to the design.

반복 스트레스에 의한 흰쥐 해마조직내 신경전구세포의 생성과 brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mRNA 발현 변동에 미치는 고려홍삼 사포닌의 반복 투여 효과 (Effects of Korea Red Ginseng Total Saponin on Repeated Unpredictable Stress-induced Changes of Proliferation of Neural Progenitor Cells and BDNF mRNA Expression in Adult Rat Hippocampus)

  • 본 연구 결과를 통하여 홍삼 성분인 고려홍삼 사포닌을 반복 투여시 흰쥐 해마 SGZ 부위의 신경전구세포 생성이 유의하게 증가되었으며, 이와 같은 경향은 반복 스트레스에 노출되어도 유지되었다. 또한 스트레스를 가하지 않은 흰쥐에서 고려홍삼 사포닌 반복 투여시 해마 CA3와 CA1 부위에서 BDNF mRNA의 발현이 증가되었으나, 반복 스트레스를 가한 흰쥐의 CA3와 CA1부위에서 BDNF mRNA의 감소를 차단하지는 못하였다. 따라서 고려홍삼 사포닌 반복 처치에 의한 해마 신경전구세포의 생성에 BDNF 보다는 다른 요인이 관여할 가능성이 클 것으로 추정된다.

  • 도로(道路)의 노반(路盤)에 교통하중(交通荷重)이 반복해서 가해질 경우 흙 구조물의 설계기준을 얻기 위해 현장시험이 행해지고 있으나, 본 연구는 지금까지 잘 알려지지 않은 흙의 동력학적(動力學的) 성질(性質), 특히 반복응력(反復應力)을 받을 때의 성질을 규명한 것으로 유변학적(流變學的) 모델 해석에 의해 흙의 항복응력(降伏應力) 탄성계수(彈性係數)를 구하고 이에 대한 반복응력재하의 영향에 대해서 고찰(考察)한 것이다. 항복응력(降伏應力)은 재하횟수가 많을 수록 경화(硬化) 효과(效果)가 현저하므로 그 값이 크고, 어느 재하횟수에 달하면 한계치에 접근한다. 또한 탄성계수(彈性係數)는 반복응력이 작은 경우에는 재하횟수가 많을수록 현저하게 증가하고, 반복응력이 커지면 반대로 감소한다.

Effect of Ginsenoside Re on Depression- and Anxiety-Like Behaviors and Cognition Memory Deficit Induced by Repeated Immobilization in Rats

  • In this study, we assessed the effects of ginsenoside Re (GRe) administration on repeated immobilization stress-induced behavioral alterations using the forced swimming test (FST), the elevated plus maze (EPM), and the active avoidance conditioning test (AAT). Additionally, we examined the effect of GRe on the central adrenergic system by observing changes in neuronal tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) immunoreactivity and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mRNA expression in the rat brain. Male rats received 10, 20, or 50 mg/kg GRe (i.p.) 30 min before daily exposures to repeated immobilization stress (2 h/day) for 10 days. Activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in response to repeated immobilization was confirmed by measuring serum levels of corticosterone (CORT) and the expression of corticotrophin-releasing factor (CRF) in the hypothalamus. Repeated immobilization stress increased immobility in the FST and reduced open-arm exploration in the EPM test. It also increased the probability of escape failures in the AAT test, indicating a reduced avoidance response. Daily administration of GRe during the repeated immobilization stress period significantly inhibited the stress-induced behavioral deficits in these behavioral tests. Administration of GRe also significantly blocked the increase in TH expression in the locus coeruleus (LC) and the decrease in BDNF mRNA expression in the hippocampus. Taken together, these findings indicate that administration of GRe prior to immobilization stress significantly improved helpless behaviors and cognitive impairment, possibly through modulating the central noradrenergic system in rats. These findings suggest that GRe may be a useful agent for treating complex symptoms of depression, anxiety, and cognitive impairment.

Effects of Repeated Citalopram Treatments on Chronic Mild Stress-Induced Growth Associated Protein-43 mRNA Expression in Rat Hippocampus

  • Although growth associated protein-43 (GAP-43) is known to playa significant role in the regulation of axonal growth and the formation of new neuronal connections in the hippocampus, there is only a few studies on the effects of acute stress on GAP-43 mRNA expression in the hippocampus. Moreover, the effects of repeated citalopram treatment on chronic mild stress (CMS)-induced changes in GAP-43 mRNA expression in the hippocampus have not been explored before. To explore this question, male rats were exposed to acute immobilization stress or CMS. Also, citalopram was given prior to stress everyday during CMS procedures. Acute immobilization stress significantly increased GAP-43 mRNA expression in all subfields of the hippocampus, while CMS significantly decreased GAP-43 mRNA expression in the dentate granule cell layer (GCL). Repeated citalopram treatment decreased GAP-43 mRNA expression in the GCL compared with unstressed controls, but this decrease was not further potentiated by CMS exposure. Similar decreases in GAP-43 mRNA expression were observed in CA1, CA3 and CA4 areas of the hippocampus only after repeated citalopram treatment in CMS-exposed rats. This result indicates that GAP-43 mRNA expression in the hippocampus may differently respond to acute and chronic stress, and that repeated citalopram treatment does not change CMS-induced decreases in GAP-43 mRNA expression in the GCL.

반복하중을 받는 실트질 점토에 관한 실험적 연구 -과압밀 점토를 중심으로- (An Experimental Study on Silty Clay Subjected to Repeated Loads)

  • 본 논문은 반복하중을 받는 과추밀 실트질 점토의 일반적 특성에 관한 연구로서 재성형 시료를 과압밀 상태로 제작하여 일련의 변형-제어 반복 삼축시험을 수행하였다. 일반적으로 단일하중의 경우에 과압밀점토의 축차응력-축변형률 관계는 그 형태에 있어 정규압밀점토의 결과와 흡사하지만, 반복하중을 받게 쾨면 시료 내의 간극수압 거동은 시료의 압밀리력 과 반복응력의 크기에 따라 변화하게 된다. 그러므로 서로 다른 과압밀비를 가진 시료에 대한 반복 하중시험 결과를 통하여 나타난 일반적 응력-변형 특성에 관하여 상호 비교 분석하고,이들의 종합적인 관계로부터 변형 및 강도 특성을 찾고자 하였다. 또한 시료가 평형상웅로 존재할 수 있는 반복응력의 한계치를 의미하는 직선 혹은 곡선형태의 평형상태선을 결정하고 과압밀비 의 변화에 따른평형상태선의 경향을 관찰하였다.

Chronic Administration of Baicalein Decreases Depression-Like Behavior Induced by Repeated Restraint Stress in Rats

  • Baicalein (BA), a plant-derived active flavonoid present in the root of Scutellaria baicalensis, has been widely used for the treatment of stress-related neuropsychiatric disorders including depression. Previous studies have demonstrated that repeated restraint stress disrupts the activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, resulting in depression. The behavioral and neurochemical basis of the BA effect on depression remain unclear. The present study used the forced swimming test (FST) and changes in brain neurotransmitter levels to confirm the impact of BA on repeated restraint stress-induced behavioral and neurochemical changes in rats. Male rats received 10, 20, or 40 mg/kg BA (i.p.) 30 min prior to daily exposure to repeated restraint stress (2 h/day) for 14 days. Activation of the HPA axis in response to repeated restraint stress was confirmed by measuring serum corticosterone levels and the expression of corticotrophin-releasing factor in the hypothalamus. Daily BA administration significantly decreased the duration of immobility in the FST, increased sucrose consumption, and restored the stress-related decreases in dopamine concentrations in the hippocampus to near normal levels. BA significantly inhibited the stress-induced decrease in neuronal tyrosine hydroxylase immunoreactivity in the ventral tegmental area and the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mRNA in the hippocampus. Taken together, these findings indicate that administration of BA prior to the repeated restraint stress significantly improves helpless behaviors and depressive symptoms, possibly by preventing the decrease in dopamine and BDNF expression. Thus, BA may be a useful agent for the treatment or alleviation of the complex symptoms associated with depression.
