Development of advanced phase spectrum for surface wave method (표면파 시험을 위한 향상된 위상각 스펙트럼 결정방법의 개발)

  • The dispersive phase velocity of a wave propagating through a system is an important parameter and carries valuable information in non-destructive tests related to multilayered systems such as a soil site. The dispersive phase velocity of a wave can be determined using the phase spectrum, which is easily evaluated through the cross power spectrum. However, the phase spectrum as determined using the cross power spectrum is sensitive to background noise which always exists in the field. This causes difficulties in the determination of the dispersive phase velocities. In this paper, a new method to evaluate the phase spectrum using the harmonic wavelet transform is proposed. The proposed method can successfully remove background noise effects. To evaluate the validity of the proposed method, numerical simulations of multi-layered systems were performed. Phase spectrums by the proposed method were found to be in good agreement with the actual phase spectrums under conditions characterized by heavy background noise. This shows the potential of the proposed method.

Ship Detection Using Visual Saliency Map and Mean Shift Algorithm (시각집중과 평균이동 알고리즘을 이용한 선박 검출)

  • In this paper, a video based ship detection method is proposed to monitor port efficiently. Visual saliency map algorithm and mean shift algorithm is applied to detect moving ships don't include background information which is difficult to track moving ships. It is easy to detect ships at the port using saliency map algorithm, because it is very effective to extract saliency object from background. To remove background information in the saliency region, image segmentation and clustering using mean shift algorithm is used. As results of detecting simulation with images of a camera installed at the harbor, it is shown that the proposed method is effective to detect ships.

  • The water of rivers and lakes are affecting by point and nonpoint source pollutions. The point source pollution can be controlled by establishing the treatment plants. However, nonpoint source pollution by various human activities is not easy to be controlled because it is difficult to determine the exits of the water flow and have many exit points. Due to contribution of nonpoint source pollution, the achievement ratio of water quality in rivers and lakes is not high. TMDL is the outstanding water quality control policy because all of the pollutant loadings from the watershed area are counting on the input loads. Our aqua-ecosystem has self-purification process by biological, physical and ecological processes. The self-purification process can remove the pollutant load from background concentrations. Usually forest area is main source of background concentrations. In Korea, about 70% of the national boundary area consists of mountains. This study is conducting as part of long-term monitoring to determine the Event Mean Concentration during a storm. The monitoring was performed on a broad-leaved tree area.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust clutter pre-thresholding method using background adaptive Threshold Map for the clutter rejection in the complex coastal environment. The proposed algorithm is composed of the use of Threshold Map's and method of its calculation. Additionally we also suggest an automatic decision method of Thresold Map's update. Experimental results on some sets of real infrared image sequence show that the proposed method could remove clutters effectively without any loss of detection rate for the aim target and reduce processing time dramatically.

  • Object extraction is needed to track objects in color traffic image sequence. To extract objects, we use background differencing method based on MOG(Mixture of Gaussians). In extracted objects, shadows may be included. Due to shadows, we may not find exact location of objects and sometimes we find adjacent objects are glued together. Many methods have been proposed to remove shadows. Conventional methods usually assume that color and texture information are preserved under the shadow. Thus these methods do not work well if these assumptions do not hold. In this paper, we propose a new robust shadow removal method which works well in those situations. First we extract shadow pixel candidates by analysing color information and compute the ratio of shadow pixel candidates over the total number of Pixels. W the ratio is reasonable, we remove shadow candidate Pixels and if not, we use data in history array containing Previous removal records. We applied the method to real color traffic image sequences and obtained good results.

  • In order to remove fog often causes various troubles in our daily lives, the novel defog blower equipped the roller brush made of recycled horse's mane hair was developed. This work presents the overview of new defog devices and the experimental data obtained at two different kinds of defogging experiments. In the model experiment carried out at the enclosed cleanroom ($W5.9m{\times}L5.1m{\times}H2.4m$) targeted a vinyl house, fog was dissipated in less than 30 seconds in case with wind entrainment and two minutes 45 seconds in case without wind entrainment after running of the newly designed defog blower. When the demisting blower was run in a duct, it has an excellent mist sweeping qualities as well as a great removal effect for the background particles (89.5% and 65.4% scavenging rates for fine and coarse particles, respectively). It can be therefore said that the mist eliminator presented in this paper is ideal for use in the sealing space like a vinyl house and the industrial sites where required to remove both harmful mist and particle.

  • The limited number of roads and the increasing number of vehicles demand the automatic regulation of overspeed vehicles, illegal vehicles, and overloaded vehicles and the automatic charge calculation depending on the type of the vehicle. To meet such requirements, it is important to remove the shadow of the vehicle as processing and recognizing an image captured by a camera. The shadow of the vehicle is likely to cause misclassification of the vehicle type due to diverse errors and mistakes occurring when detecting geometrical properties of the vehicle. In case that shadows of two different vehicles are overlapped, not only the type of the vehicles may be misclassified but also it is difficult to accurately identify the type of the vehicles. In this paper, we propose a robust algorithm to remove the shadow of a vehicle by calculating the luminance, the chrominance, the gradient density of the cast shadow from information acquired using the image subtraction of the background, and to recognize the substantial vehicle figure. Even when it is hard to detect and split a target vehicle from its shadow as shadows of vehicles are attached to each other, our robust algorithm can detect the vehicle figure only. We implemented our system with a general camera and conducted experiments on various vehicles on general roads to find out our vehicle shade removal algorithm is efficient when detecting and recognizing vehicles.

Object Tracking And Elimination Using Lod Edge Maps Generated from Modified Canny Edge Maps (수정된 캐니 에지 맵으로부터 만들어진 LOD 에지 맵을 이용한 물체 추적 및 소거)

  • We propose a simple method for tracking a nonparameterized subject contour in a single video stream with a moving camera and changing background. Then we present a method to eliminate the tracked contour object by replacing with the background scene we get from other frame. First we track the object using LOD (Level-of-Detail) canny edge maps, then we generate background of each image frame and replace the tracked object in a scene by a background image from other frame that is not occluded by the tracked object. Our tracking method is based on level-of-detail (LOD) modified Canny edge maps and graph-based routing operations on the LOD maps. We get more edge pixels along LOD hierarchy. Our accurate tracking is based on reducing effects from irrelevant edges by selecting the stronger edge pixels, thereby relying on the current frame edge pixel as much as possible. The first frame background scene is determined by camera motion, camera movement between two image frames, and other background scenes are computed from the previous background scenes. The computed background scenes are used to eliminate the tracked object from the scene. In order to remove the tracked object, we generate approximated background for the first frame. Background images for subsequent frames are based on the first frame background or previous frame images. This approach is based on computing camera motion. Our experimental results show that our method works nice for moderate camera movement with small object shape changes.

The efficient IR-UWB Radar System for Reflective Wave Removal in a Short Distance Environments (근거리 환경에서 반사파 제거를 위한 효율적인 IR-UWB Radar 시스템)

  • In this paper, Kalman filter and RRWA algorithm are used to estimate the accurate target in IR-UWB (Impulse-Radio Ultra Wideband) radar system, which enables accurate location recognition of indoors and outdoors with low cost and low power consumption. In the signal reflected by the target, unnecessary signals exist in addition to the target signal. We have tried to remove unnecessary signals and to derive accurate target signals and improve performance. The location of the targets is estimated in real time with one transmitting antenna and one receiving antenna. The Kalman filter was used to remove the background noise and the RRWA algorithm was used to remove the reflected signal. In this paper, we think that it will be useful to study the accurate distance estimation and tracking in future target estimation.

A Study on Vocal Removal Scheme of SAOC Using Harmonic Information (하모닉 정보를 이용한 SAOC의 보컬 신호 제거 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Interactive audio service provide with audio generating and editing functionality according to user's preference. A spatial audio object coding (SAOC) scheme is audio coding technology that can support the interactive audio service with relatively low bit-rate. However, when the SAOC scheme remove the specific one object such as vocal object signal for Karaoke mode, the scheme support poor quality because the removed vocal object remain in the SAOC-decoded background music. Thus, we propose a new SAOC vocal harmonic extranction and elimination technique to improve the background music quality in the Karaoke service. Namely, utilizing the harmonic information of the vocal object, we removed the harmonics of the vocal object remaining in the background music. As harmonic parameters, we utilize the pitch, MVF(maximum voiced frequency), and harmonic amplitude. To evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, we perform the objective and subjective evaluation. As our experimental results, we can confirm that the background music quality is improved by the proposed scheme comparing with the SAOC scheme.
