  • Virtual reality is becoming a powerful tool for various applications such as training, entertainment, surgery, tele-robotics etc. One potential use for virtual reality is to allow several users to interact in a single virtual environment, for example several students sitting in front of different computers connected over a network. In this paper, we present a loosely coupled architecture of haptic display in the multi-user virtual world. The method of controlling haptic devices as well as the way of configuring individual haptic display system are addressed. We will develop an experimental virtual reality system for two remote users and conclude with an experimental work for the task of a multi-player ping-pong and grasping of a common object.

  • Abdominal pregnancy is one of the rare but extremely harzardous complications of childbearing. The diagnosis of the abdominal pregnancy is rarely made before surgery and the management of it also has many difficult problems. I experienced a case of abdominal pregnancy developed after the previous unilateral adnexectomy and it was a suspicious primary abdominal pregnancy as though did not fulfilled the Studdiford's the following criteria for primary abdominal pregnancy. 1) normal tubes and ovaries with no evidence of recent or remote injury, 2) absence of any evidence of uteroplacental fistula, and 3) presence of a pregnancy related exclusively to the peritoneal surface and young enough to eliminate the possibility of secondary implantation following primary nidation in the tube. And now I present a case with brief review of literatures.

  • To realize remote surgery from hundreds of kilometers away, a new communication environment with ultra-low latency and high-precision features is required. Thus, ultra-high precision networking technology that guarantees the maximum latency and jitter of end-to-end traffic on an Internet-scale wide area network is in development as part of 6G network research. This paper describes the current status of various networking technologies in ITU-T, ETSI, IEEE, and IETF to ensure ultra-low latency and high precision in wired networks.

  • Objective: To determine whether T1 mapping could monitor the dynamic changes of injury in myocardial infarction (MI) and be histologically validated. Materials and Methods: In 22 pigs, MI was induced by ligating the left anterior descending artery and they underwent serial cardiovascular magnetic resonance examinations with modified Look-Locker inversion T1 mapping and extracellular volume (ECV) computation in acute (within 24 hours, n = 22), subacute (7 days, n = 13), and chronic (3 months, n = 7) phases of MI. Masson's trichrome staining was performed for histological ECV calculation. Myocardial native T1 and ECV were obtained by region of interest measurement in infarcted, peri-infarct, and remote myocardium. Results: Native T1 and ECV in peri-infarct myocardium differed from remote myocardium in acute (1181 ± 62 ms vs. 1113 ± 64 ms, p = 0.002; 24 ± 4% vs. 19 ± 4%, p = 0.031) and subacute phases (1264 ± 41 ms vs. 1171 ± 56 ms, p < 0.001; 27 ± 4% vs. 22 ± 2%, p = 0.009) but not in chronic phase (1157 ± 57 ms vs. 1120 ± 54 ms, p = 0.934; 23 ± 2% vs. 20 ± 1%, p = 0.109). From acute to chronic MI, infarcted native T1 peaked in subacute phase (1275 ± 63 ms vs. 1637 ± 123 ms vs. 1471 ± 98 ms, p < 0.001), while ECV progressively increased with time (35 ± 7% vs. 46 ± 6% vs. 52 ± 4%, p < 0.001). Native T1 correlated well with histological findings (R2 = 0.65 to 0.89, all p < 0.001) so did ECV (R2 = 0.73 to 0.94, all p < 0.001). Conclusion: T1 mapping allows the quantitative assessment of injury in MI and the noninvasive monitoring of tissue injury evolution, which correlates well with histological findings.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcome of high-dose-rate (HDR) interstitial brachytherapy (IBT) in patients with oral cavity cancer. Materials and Methods: Sixteen patients with oral cavity cancer treated with HDR remote-control afterloading brachytherapy using $^{192}Ir$ between 2001 and 2013 were analyzed retrospectively. Brachytherapy was administered in 11 patients as the primary treatment and in five patients as salvage treatment for recurrence after the initial surgery. In 12 patients, external beam radiotherapy (50-55 Gy/25 fractions) was combined with IBT of 21 Gy/7 fractions. In addition, IBT was administered as the sole treatment in three patients with a total dose of 50 Gy/10 fractions and as postoperative adjuvant treatment in one patient with a total of 35 Gy/7 fractions. Results: The 5-year overall survival of the entire group was 70%. The actuarial local control rate after 3 years was 84%. All five recurrent cases after initial surgery were successfully salvaged using IBT ${\pm}$ external beam radiotherapy. Two patients developed local recurrence at 3 and 5 months, respectively, after IBT. The acute complications were acceptable (${\leq}grade$ 2). Three patients developed major late complications, such as radio-osteonecrosis, in which one patient was treated by conservative therapy and two required surgical intervention. Conclusion: HDR IBT for oral cavity cancer was effective and acceptable in diverse clinical settings, such as in the cases of primary or salvage treatment.

  • Thymoma Is an anterior mediastinal tumor, arising from the thymus, but occasionally has ectopic focus such as neck, trachea, thyroid, pulmonary hilum, lung parenchyme and pleura. Forty-two year old male patient was admitted due to progressive development of shortness of breath in 4 months. He had a history of exposure to asbestos for About 10 years duration In recent 15 years. Radiologically, multiple pleural masses were seen rom apex to diaphrAgm, with no evidence of anterior mediastinal mass, with fluid in right pleural cavity. Closed thoracotomy drainage with open biopsy were performed. Effusion cell block showed many T cell marker positive Lymphocytes & some epithelial cells compatible with thymoma, and the tissue also showed cortical type thymoma. Pleuropneumonectomy and thymectomy followed by 60 Gy radiation therapy were done and the patient is well 8 months postoperatively. The pleura is markedly thickened by the invasion of thymoma and the interstitial space of the lung tissue, but the normal appearance of thymus was present in remote area (Masaoka classification IVa). We report a case of ectopic invasive thymoma arising from the right pleura with intact thymus.

  • Cancer is one of the major causes of death; however, the survival rate can be increased if discovered at an early stage for timely treatment. According to the statistics of the World Health Organization of 2002, breast cancer was the most prevalent cancer for all cancers occurring in women worldwide, and it account for 16.8% of entire cancers inflicting Korean women today. In order to classify the type of breast cancer whether it is benign or malignant, this study was conducted with the use of the discriminant analysis and the decision tree of data mining with the breast cancer data disclosed on the web. The discriminant analysis is a statistical method to seek certain discriminant criteria and discriminant function to separate the population groups on the basis of observation values obtained from two or more population groups, and use the values obtained to allow the existing observation value to the population group thereto. The decision tree analyzes the record of data collected in the part to show it with the pattern existing in between them, namely, the combination of attribute for the characteristics of each class and make the classification model tree. Through this type of analysis, it may obtain the systematic information on the factors that cause the breast cancer in advance and prevent the risk of recurrence after the surgery.
