  • There are several facilities in Kochang distribution test center such as artificial fault generator(AFG), new distribution automation system(NDAS), communication networks (wireless and optic), lumped constant circuit, switches for distribution automation, overhead and underground distribution line. We have been field testing on remote control, data acquisition. remote metering, feeder automation and so on for distribution automation using those equipment.

  • The rapid growth of air conditioning load has become a main reason of peak load increase in summer. In connection with this, we surveyed the load management projects of utilities world wide and their detailed activities. This study is to develop a remote load control system using computer and radio communications. We finished the field-test of this system on August 1995 in Seoul area. During the field-test, the remote load control of air conditioners was proved to be well-timed. Two control modes, group control and all control, are available for the user to select. The transmission reliability of the load control signal was very good and the functions of system hardware as well as the software were excellent. So we confirmed the applicability of the load control system including the pager communication network. In this paper, detailed information on the system functions and experimental results are described.

  • A new transmitter circuit for remote controllers is designed to provide flexibility and expandibility in function. The circuit employs a microcode approach to accept various code format, length and pulse widths through programming, and the precessing logics is eliminated to reduce its size. The circuit was Implemented using FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) and it was found to operate successfully).

  • In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for improved accuracy and reliability of Earth Observation Satellite (EOS) data. Most of the data users in the field of remote sensing require understanding of product accuracy and uncertainty. Especially, EOS application products should be validated for practical application in the field. In order to evaluate the availability and applicability of application products, it will be necessary to establish a systematic validation system including techniques, equipments, ground truth data, etc. The Product Validation Site (PVS) for generation and validation of KOMPSAT application products was designed and established with various in-situ equipment and dataset. This paper presents the status of PVS and summarizes some results from experiment studies at PVS.

Estimation of water quality distribution in freshing reservoir by satellite images

  • Kojima Lake in Okayama prefecture is a freshing reservoir constructed adjacent to the oldest reclaimed land in Japan. This lake has a serious water quality problem because two urban rivers are flowing into it. In the present study, unsupervised classification was performed at intervals of several years using Landsat MSS data in the past 15 years. After geometric correction of these data, MSS data corresponding geographically to the field observation data were extracted and subjected to the multivariate analysis. Water quality distribution in the lake was estimated using the regression equation obtained as a result. In addition, two - dimensional and three-dimensional numerical simulations were performed and compared with the distribution obtained from the satellite images. Behavior of the reservoir flows is complicated and water quality distribution varies greatly with the flows. Here, I report the results of analysis on three factors, field observation, numerical simulation and satellite images.

Improved Free-air Gravity Anomalies by Satellite Altimetry

  • Ocean satellite altimetry-implied free-air gravity anomalies have had the shortest wavelengths removed during the processing to generate the optimal solution between multiple radar altimeter missions. ERS-1 168day mission altimetry was residualized to a reference geoid surface generated by integrating Anderson & Knudsen’s free-air gravity anomalies for the Barents Sea. The altimetry tracks were reduced and filtered to extract the shortest wavelengths (between 4 and 111 km) from both ascending and descending tracks, respectively. These data were recombined using existing quadrant-swapping techniques in the wavenumber domain to generate a correlated, high frequency gravity field related to the local geologic sources. This added-value surface adjusted the reference free-air gravity anomalies to better reflect features in the gravity field at a wavelength related to the distance between altimetry ground tracks.

Change Detection of Land-cover from Multi-temporal KOMPSAT-1 EOC Imageries

  • A radiometric correction method is developed to apply multi-temporal KOMPSAT-1 EOC satellite images for the detection of land-cover changes b\ulcorner recognizing changes in reflection pattern. Radiometric correction was carried out to eliminate the atmospheric effects that could interfere with the image properly of the satellite data acquired at different multi-times. Four invariant features of water, sand, paved road, and roofs of building are selected and a linear regression relationship among the control set images is used as a correction scheme. It is found that the utilization of panchromatic multi-temporal imagery requires the radiometric scene standardization process to correct radiometric errors that include atmospheric effects and digital image processing errors. Land-cover with specific change pattern such as paddy field is extracted by seasonal change recognition process.

Contextual Modeling and Generation of Texture Observed in Single and Multi-channel Images

  • Texture is extensively studied in a variety of image processing applications such as image segmentation and classification because it is an important property to perceive regions and surfaces. This paper focused on the analysis and synthesis of textured single and multiband images using Markov Random Field model considering the existent spatial correlation. Especially, for multiband images, the cross-channel correlation existing between bands as well as the spatial correlation within band should be considered in the model. Although a local interaction is assumed between the specified neighboring pixels in MRF models, during the maximization process, short-term correlations among neighboring pixels develop into long-term correlations. This result in exhibiting phase transition. In this research, the role of temperature to obtain the most probable state during the sampling procedure in discrete Markov Random Fields and the stopping rule were also studied.

  • The stress field in the body by tangential loading of a rectangular patch on a semi-infinite solid has been solved analytically using Boussinesque's potential function. Its validity was proved by saint-venant's principle in remote region of the and in the vicinity of the surface with superposition of point loads.
