Effectiveness of Death Education on the Reduction of Children's Death Anxiety (아동의 죽음불안 감소를 위한 죽음대비교육의 효과)

  • This study examined children's death anxiety by religion, previous death experience and the effectiveness of a death education program. Half of the subjects 60 nine-year-old elementary school subjects were assigned to the experimental group and half were assigned to the control group. The 6-week death education program for the experimental group included literature, role play, and discussion. A questionnaire and death anxiety scale for children were administered to all subjects. After the educational program, there was a significant difference in death anxiety scores, between the experimental and control groups. However, children's religion and previous experience with death had no significant relationship to their death anxiety or effectiveness of the death education program.

Differences of Quality of Life between Korean and British married couple (한국과 영국인 주부의 삶의 질 비교)

  • This study was to investigate differences of quality of life between Korean and British married couples. For the data set 136 married couples living in London Plymouth United Kingdom and 208 married couples living in Pusan Korea were chosen. The data were analyzed using M, D, t-test multiple regression and path analysis,. The findings of this study are as follows; First the level of quality of life are higher for British married women than Korean married women. Second for Korean and british married women influence on quality of life are higher subjective variables than objective variables. Third for Korean married women wife's level of education religion marital satisfaction have significant direct effect on quality of life. Besides wife's age and husband's housework participation are indirectly associated with quality of life. For British married women marital satisfaction has significant direct effect on quality of life. Besides number of children income and religion are ind rectly associated with quality of life. Among the variables marital satisfaction is the strongest predictor variable.

A Study on Self-concept and Frustration off Siblings of Mentally Retarded Children (정신지체아의 정상형제자매에 대한 자아개념과 좌절감에 관한 연구)

  • This study attempted to analyze the psychological impact of mentally retarded children on their normal siblings in the family. The data were collected from siblings of 130 mentally retarded children using a questionnaire with a semantic differential scale. ANOVA and simple correlation coefficient tests were employed to examine the relationship between the siblings’ self-concept and psychological frustration. The major results of the study are as following. 1. Female siblings showed a lower degree of self-concept than male siblings. 2. No significant relationship was found between self-concept and frustration stimuli. 3. Parent related frustration stimuli was no significantly different in sex age, siblings, religion, and retardation level of mentally retarded children. 4. Siblings related frustration stimuli was significantly related to only one item in sex. 5. Their peers related frustration stimuli while sex as well as religion was significantly related to only one item.

A Study on Ambivalence of Elderly Parents Toward Their Adults Children (노부모가 인지하는 성인자녀에 대한 양가감정에 관한 연구)

  • This study considered whether intergenerational ambivalence has implications for elderly's psychological well-being so as to improve relationship between adults children and their parents and the qualities of the elderly lives. Subjects were 346 elderly parents whose ages 60 over. The statistics used for data analysis were reliability, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, one way ANOVA and multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows; 1)The degrees of elderly's ambivalence of their adult children were 10.07, the data showed lower than median. 2)The elderly's ambivalence level significantly according to spouse, career, religion, relation of the adults children, and ambivalence level were associated with importance of the adults children, education. 3)The variables that affect the elderly's ambivalence level were spouse, importance of the adults children, education, religion, relation of the adults children, career, which explained about 19% of the total variance.

Health Factors Related to Management of Menopause among Climacteric Women (갱년기 여성의 폐경관리와 관련된 건강요인에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the correlations between management of menopause, urinary incontinence and sexual satisfaction in climacteric women. Method: This study was conducted using a convenient sampling method in and around Jinju city, and each participant gave consent for the research. A total sample of 250 middle-aged women aged 40 to 60 years were chosen for the study, of which 157 women completed the questionnaires used for the analysis. Data was collected from Jan 1st to Mar 31st, 2004 by structured questionnaires (questionnaires for management of menopause, urinary incontinence and sexual satisfaction). Result: The characteristic variables significantly related to management of menopause were occupation and religion. The characteristic variable significantly related to urinary incontinence was age. The characteristic variables significantly related to sexual satisfaction were religion, economic status, and frequency of delivery. The relationship between management of menopause and sexual satisfaction was statistically significant with a positive correlation. Conclusion: It is hoped that the above findings will stimulate health promoting programs for climacteric women.

The Effect of Marital Interaction on the Marital Instability of Foreign Wives in Gyeongnam (경남지역 여성결혼이민자의 부부 상호작용이 결혼불안정성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study identifies how marital interaction influences the marital instability of foreign wives. Data for the study were based on a snowball sampling of 101 foreign wives married to Korean husbands in Gyeongnam, Korea. The respondents reported higher levels of perceived spousal support, marital satisfaction, and sexual satisfaction, but reported lower levels of spousal hostility. A hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to identify the variables that affect marital instability. Independent variables included in the study were years married, religion, monthly income, educational level, perceived husband support, sexual satisfaction, marital satisfaction, and perceived husband hostility. While religion, educational level, sexual satisfaction, marital satisfaction, and perceived husband hostility had a strong effects on the marital instability of foreign wives, years of marriage, monthly income, and perceived husband support did not show significant effect on marital instability. Marital satisfaction had the strongest effect on marital instability.

A Study on the Relationship Between the Urban Homemaker's View of Homemanagement and the Domestic Courtesy and Ritual. (도시주부의 가정경영관과 가정의례와의 상관연구)

  • The Purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the urban home-maker's view of homemanagement and the domestic courtesy and ritual (wedding ceremany, ancestral service, funeral rites). The data for this study was obtained from the 661 homemakers who live in Seoul, Busan, Inchon etc. The data were analyzed by the method described below with SPSS Computer programs. Such methods as frequence, percentile, analysis of variance (t-test, one-way ANOVA), Pearson's correlation and Factor analysis, Multiple regression were used. The major results the study can be summaried as follows; 1) As the result of factor analysis about view of homemanagement, 10 factors (which Eigen Value was above 1.0) out of 28 guestions were extracted. 2) In general, it can be said that the urban Homemaker's View of homemanagement varies by age, level of education, religion. 3) The domestic courtesy and ritual (wedding ceremony, ancestral servic, funeral rites) varies by age, level of education, religion. 4) There is a positive relation in analyzing the correlation between the urban homemaker's view of homemanagement and domestic courtesy and ritual (wedding ceremony, ancestral service, funeral rites)(p<.001).

The Effects of a Mother's Characteristics and Self-awareness upon Parenting Stress (어머니의 특성 및 자아인식이 양육스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to focus on the effects of a mother's characteristics and self-awareness as they impact upon parenting stress, with the additional aim of creating an appropriate structural equation model. The subjects of the study comprised 2078 newborn children (and their mothers) taken from the $1^{st}$ year of the Korea Children's Panel. The results of the research are as follows. The mother's feeling of pregnancy, her income activity, religion, and educational level impacted significantly upon self-awareness, whereas employment status did not. In addition, the feeling of pregnancy and income activity had a effect on parenting stress both directly and indirectly. Educational level and religion impacted on parenting stress indirectly through self-awareness. Both employment status and self-awareness were found to have impacted on parenting stress directly. The implication of these findings are also discussed.
