In this paper, by considering the real UWA channel environments, the measured channel data is used to generate the UWA channel model and calculate the relative parameters for underwater OFDM systems. Practical least square (LS) based channel estimation with linear interpolation are adopted to obtain the channel state information (CSI) at receiver side. As multi-input multi-output (MIMO) processing techniques, Alamouti code is implemented and evaluated to perform for space time block coding (STBC) and space frequency block coding (SFBC) for UWA OFDM systems with the MIMO configuration of $2{\times}1$, at the same time, $1{\times}2$ maximum ratio combining (MRC) is performed for the purpose of comparison. The simulation results show that, with perfect channel estimation, SFBC failed to work duo to the serious frequency selectivity of UWA channel environments. When the practical channel estimation is applied, in the case of STBC, the proposed 4-column pilot pattern gives better performance about 7dB than SISO system.

The water vapor weighted vertically mean temperature(Tm) models, which were developed by the consideration of seasonal characteristics over the Korea, was used in the retrieval of precipitable water vapor (PWV) from GPS data which were observed at four GPS permanent stations. Since the weighted mean temperature relates to the water vapor pressure and temperature profile at a site, the accuracy of water vapor information which were estimated from GPS tropospheric wet delay is proportional to the accuracy of the weighted mean temperature. The adaption of Korean seasonal weighted mean temperature model, as an alternative to other formulae which are suggested from other nation, provides an improvement in the accuracy of the GPS PWV estimation. Therefore, it can be concluded that the seasonally appropriate weighted mean temperature model, which is used to convert actual zenith wet delay (ZWD) to the PWV, can be more reduced the relative biases of PWV estimated from GPS signal delays in the troposphere than other annual model, so that it would be useful for GPS PWV estimation with high accuracy.
In this study, ultimate lateral load capacity of piles is analyzed with consideration of lateral stress effect. Based on results obtained in this study, a method for the estimation of ultimate lateral load capacity is proposed. This makes it possible to more realistically estimate the ultimate lateral load capacity under various stress states caused by in-situ soil condition and pile installation process. Calibration chamber test results with various soil conditions were used in the analysis. From the test results, it was found that effect of the lateral stress was greater than that of the vertical stress on the ultimate lateral load capacity of piles. It was also found that, as the relative density increases, displacements required to reach the ultimate state increases, showing relative displacements of around 14% and 18-25% for $D_R$ : 55% and 86%, respectively. Based on results obtained in this study, a methodology for the estimation of ultimate lateral load capacity of piles using correction factors was proposed. Results from proposed method matched well measured results.

Generally, durability of concrete structures under marine environment is grossly declined by detrimental ions such as chlorides, which penetrate concrete and was diffused to corrode reinforcing rod. Therefore, chloride diffusion properties in concrete are important for durability evaluation and design of concrete structure. For estimation of chloride diffusion coefficient in concrete, both evaluation methods are used for steady state and non-steady state derived from Fick's 1st and 2nd law, respectively. However, as it is very difficult to evaluate diffusion coefficient for non-steady state like service environment where concrete is actually exposed, indirect evaluation method by laboratory accelerated test is generally used. In this study, comparison of chloride diffusion behavior was investigated for fixed mix proportion and age of concrete using four accelerated test methods based on domestic and foreign standards. From test results, only relative comparison between concrete mixtures was possible using ASTM C 1202 test, and diffusion coefficient for steady state was estimated as low as 1/10 of that for non-steady state. In addition, diffusion coefficient estimated by immersion test was similar to result by NT build 492 test.

The Standardized Plant Analysis Risk-Human Reliability Analysis (SPAR-H) method is a widely used method in human reliability analysis (HRA). Performance shaping factors (PSFs) refer to the factors that may influence human performance and are used to adjust nominal human error probabilities (HEPs) in SPAR-H. However, the PSFs are assumed to be independent, which is unrealistic and can lead to unreasonable estimation of HEPs. In this paper, a new method is proposed to handle the dependencies among PSFs in SPAR-H to obtain more reasonable results. Firstly, the dependencies among PSFs are analyzed by using decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method. Then, PSFs are assigned different weights according to their dependent relationships. Finally, multipliers of PSFs are modified based on the relative weights of PSFs. A case study is illustrated that the proposed method is effective in handling the dependent PSFs in SPAR-H, where the duplicate calculations of the dependent part can be reduced. The proposed method can deal with a more general situation that PSFs are dependent, and can provide more reasonable results.

In this paper, we primarily address the difficulty of automatic generation of a plausible depth map from a single image in an unstructured environment. The aim is to extrapolate a depth map with a more correct, rich, and distinct depth order, which is both quantitatively accurate as well as visually pleasing. Our technique, which is fundamentally based on a preexisting DepthTransfer algorithm, transfers depth information at the level of superpixels. This occurs within a framework that replaces a pixel basis with one of instance-based learning. A vital superpixels feature enhancing matching precision is posterior incorporation of predictive semantic labels into the depth extraction procedure. Finally, a modified Cross Bilateral Filter is leveraged to augment the final depth field. For training and evaluation, experiments were conducted using the Make3D Range Image Dataset and vividly demonstrate that this depth estimation method outperforms state-of-the-art methods for the correlation coefficient metric, mean log10 error and root mean squared error, and achieves comparable performance for the average relative error metric in both efficacy and computational efficiency. This approach can be utilized to automatically convert 2D images into stereo for 3D visualization, producing anaglyph images that are visually superior in realism and simultaneously more immersive.
Model pile tests, using a calibration chamber in which the stress state and the relative density can be controlled, were performed in order to study the effects of pile diameter on the plugging rate and bearing capacity of open-ended pile. The model piles used in the test series were devised so that the bearing capacity of an open-ended pile could be measured out into three components. The test results showed that fully plugging depth of an open -ended pile increased with increase in pile diameter and soil density. Moreover, it was found that unit plug capacity decreased with increase in pile diameter, though the penetration ratio or plugging rate of piles was constant. However, the existing formulae for estimation of plug capacity give plug capacity which is constant or increased with increase in pile diameter, when penetration ratio or plugging rate of piles is equal. Thus, it is proposed that the effect of pile diameter as well as plugging rate on bearing capacity of pile must be considered in plug capacity estimation.

Accurate estimation of modal parameters (i.e., natural frequency, damping ratio) of tall buildings is of great importance to their structural design, structural health monitoring, vibration control, and state assessment. Based on the combination of variational mode decomposition, smoothed discrete energy separation algorithm-1, and Half-cycle energy operator (VMD-SH), this paper presents a method for structural modal parameter estimation. The variational mode decomposition is proved to be effective and reliable for decomposing the mixed-signal with low frequencies and damping ratios, and the validity of both smoothed discrete energy separation algorithm-1 and Half-cycle energy operator in the modal identification of a single modal system is verified. By incorporating these techniques, the VMD-SH method is able to accurately identify and extract the various modes present in a signal, providing improved insights into its underlying structure and behavior. Subsequently, a numerical study of a four-story frame structure is conducted using the Newmark-β method, and it is found that the relative errors of natural frequency and damping ratio estimated by the presented method are much smaller than those by traditional methods, validating the effectiveness and accuracy of the combined method for the modal identification of the multi-modal system. Furthermore, the presented method is employed to estimate modal parameters of a full-scale tall building utilizing acceleration responses. The identified results verify the applicability and accuracy of the presented VMD-SH method in field measurements. The study demonstrates the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed VMD-SH method in accurately estimating modal parameters of tall buildings from acceleration response data.
In this study, we grasped the resistance state of the back ground which had a notable influence on computing the lateral resistance of the laterally loaded pile group in the homogeneous ground by the model test. Resistance state was grasped as the depth of rotation-point, wedge failure angle, and wedge wing angle. The model experiment is performed by varying the width, spacing and number of piles and the relative density of sand in this study. According to the observation of the rear ground surface deformation of the piles in lateral load, rotation point ratio, wedge failure angle, and wedge wing angle of the front row were similar to those of the middle row; however, those of the back row were relatively smaller. The rotation point ratio, wedge failure angle and wedge wing angle of the piles in parallel were the same as those of a single pile. Based on the model test results, equations for estimation of the rotation-point, wedge failure angle, and wedge wing angle are proposed.
Efforts to understand and develop reasonable analysis methods for the uncertainty of ground have been made since the 20th century, and the concept of safety factor has been used. However, this concept has limitation in measuring the relative reliability of ground structures because the representative values of the actually used factors have uncertainty. Nevertheless, there is no method to completely remove uncertainty. In most cases, the ground investigation results in Korea are not enough for applying such statistical methods. Furthermore, performing a design without accurate investigation of consolidation state even though consolidation characteristics such as settlement and consolidation velocity vary greatly by the consolidation history can lead to many problems. Therefore, in this paper, as part of the effort to reduce the uncertainty of design around over consolidation ratio among the consolidation factors, the consolidation state was assessed on the basis of the results of high-quality laboratory tests that were performed in Gwangyang and Busan in the southern coast of Korea. Furthermore, consolidation characteristics such as over consolidation ratio by depth were proposed for different regions through statistical processes such as the test of normality and the removal of abnormal values to reduce the uncertainty of design parameters.
