The effect of fabrication variables and microstructures on the compressive strength of open cell alumina zirconia and silicon nitride ceramics fabricated by polymeric sponge method was investigated. Bulk density and compressive strength of open cell ceramics were mainly affected by coating characteristics of ceramic slurry on polymeric sponge that controlled a shape thickness and defect of the struts. Sintering temperature was optimized for enhancement of strut strength and compressive strength of open cell ceramics. Relative density and compressive strength behaviors were relatively well matched with the predicted values. Open cell ceramics of lower relative density below 0.1 prepared by first relatively well matched with the predicted values. Open cell ceramics of lower relative density below 0.1 prepared by first coating of ceramic slurry had thin triangular prismatic struts that were often broken or longitudinally cracked. With an application of second coating of slurry shape of struts was transformed into thickner cylindrical one and defects in struts were healed but the relative density increased over 0.2 Open cell zirconia had both the highest bulk density and compressive strength and alumina had the lowest compressive strength while silicon nitrides showed relatively high compressive strength and the lowest density. Based upon the analysis open cell silicon nitride was expected to be one of potential structural ceramics with light weight.

In order to obtain 'value added products' from polypropylene (PP)/waste ground rubber tire powder (WGRT) composites, PP/WGRT microcellular foams were prepared via supercritical carbon dioxide. The effects of blend composition and processing condition on the cell size, cell density and relative density of PP/WGRT micro-cellular composites were studied. The results indicated that the microcellular structure was dependent on blend composition and processing condition. An increased content of waste ground rubber tire powder (WGRT) and maleic anhydride-grafted styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene (SEBS-g-MA) reduced the cell size, and raised the cell density and relative density, whereas a higher saturation pressure increased the cell size, and reduced the cell density and relative density. With increasing saturation temperature, the cell size increased and the relative density decreased, whereas the cell density initially increased and then decreased.
We define an operator version of the relative Rényi entropy as the generalization of relative von Neumann entropy, and provide its fundamental properties and the bounds for its trace value. Moreover, we see an effect of the relative Rényi entropy under tensor product, and show the sub-additivity for density matrices.
Determination of geotechnical characteristics of soil is either to use the field samples to measure the characteristics of soil through laboratory test or measuring the characteristics directly in the field. Field test can be derived similar value by considering characteristics of site and laboratory test can be confirmed the characteristic of soil by testing with field samples. This article describes relative density as the measure of compaction for cohesionless soils and presents several simple and mathematical relationships to help engineers estimate needed parameters for relative density calculations. The main purpose of this research is to investigate possible correlations between coefficient of uniformity, coefficient of curvature, maximum and minimum void ratio, mean grain size. Results show a linear relationship between the minimum and maximum void ratios and a power function relationship between coefficient of uniformity and the limiting void ratios. Void ratio range, which is the difference between the maximum and minimum void ratios, appeared to be log normally distributed but showed no simple mathematical fit to the data. these results were shown to help engineers estimate needed parameters for relative density calculations.
Shear characteristics of quarry blasted rocks were compared using large scale direct shear tests and triaxial tests. For comparison purpose, similar test conditions were simulated as much as possible and three types of relative density (50%, 70%, 90%) were employed for the test. Results indicate that stress-strain behavior shows the same trend for two tests, but the measured shear strengths differ for the different test ms and depends on the relative density. At low relative density, the internal friction angles from direct shear test are smaller than those from triaxial tests. However, at high relative density, this phenomenon is reversed.
Liquefaction phenomenon refers to a phenomenon in which excess pore water pressure occurs when a dynamic load such as an earthquake is rapidly applied to a loose sandy soil ground where the ground is saturated, and the ground loses effective stress and becomes liquid. The laboratory repetition test for liquefaction evaluation can be performed through a repeated triaxial compression test and a repeated shear test. In this regard, this study attempted to evaluate the effects of the relative density of sand on the liquefaction resistance strength according to particle size distribution using repeated triaxial compression tests, and additional experimental verification using numerical analysis was conducted to overcome the limitations of experimental equipment. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the liquefaction resistance strength increased as the relative density increased regardless of the classification of soil, and the liquefaction resistance strength of the SP sample close to SW was quite high. As a result of numerical analysis, it was confirmed that the liquefaction resistance strength increased as the confining pressure increased under the same relative density, and the liquefaction resistance strength did not decrease below a certain limit even though the confining pressure was significantly reduced at a relatively low relative density. This is judged to be due to a change in confining pressure according to the depth of the ground. As a result of analyzing the liquefaction resistance strength according to the frequency range, it was confirmed that there was no significant difference from the laboratory experiment results in the basic range of 0.1 to 1.0 Hz.
Although the relative density is an important factor showing mechanical properties of granular soils, the methods for its estimation have not been satisfactorily standardized. Many researchers have proposed various methods to determine max, and min, dry density, but the results, especially for max, dry density, show significant differences. In this study, a simple and practical method of evaluating the max, relative density was proposed, which could give reliable results in comparison with conventional methods. The experiment was carried out by varying the number of blows and the layers of the sample for each mold and the results were compared with those of Bowles method.
Relative power density distributions of the Kori Unit 1 pressurized water reactor are calculated by Monte Carlo modeling with the MCNP code. The Kori Unit 1 core is modeled on a three-dimensional representation of the one-eighth of the reactor in-vessel component with reflective boundaries at 0 and 45 degrees. The axial core model is based on half core symmetry and is divided into four axial segments. Fission reaction density in each rod is calculated by following 100 cycles with 5,000 test neutrons in each cycle after starling with a localized neutron source and ten noncontributing settle cycles. Relative assembly power distributions are calculated from fission reaction densities of rods in assembly. After 100 cycle calculations, the system converges to a k value of 1.00039 $\geq$ 0.00084. Relative assembly power distribution is nearly the same with that of the Kori Unit 1 FSAR. Applicability of the full-scope Monte Carlo simulation in the power distribution calculation is examined by the relative root moan square error of 2.159%.
The sands which use for soil improvement of soft ground at coastal area contain more or less amount of shells. In this research the effects of shell contents on the liquefaction resistance of the shelly sand were studied. NGI cyclic simple shear tests were performed for the shell-sands with shell contents of 0%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30% under the effective vertical stress of 50kPa, 100kPa and 150kPa for 40% and 55% of relative density, respectively. Cyclic simple shear test results showed that for the low effective vertical stress, the liquefaction resistance increased rapidly with increase of shell contents in both 40% and 55% relative density. On the other hand, for the high effective vertical stress, the liquefaction resistance increased slightly in 40% relative density and was almost same in 55% relative density. Liquefaction resistance decreased with increasing effective vertical stress for both 40% and 55% relative density. In the same effective vertical stress and shell contents, liquefaction resistance increased with the increase of relative density.
Available phosphorus($P_2O_5$) in conventionally cultivated soil was more abundant in two fold than that of organically cultivated soil. Relative density of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) was higher in organically cultivated soil, That of welsh onion cultivated soil was the highest, that of strawberry was followed and then that of pepper, respectively. Relative density of AMF was inversely proportioned to available soil phosphorus. Phosphorus content of crop and relative density of AMF were more abundant in organically cultivated crop or soil. However available soil phosphorus content was much in conventionally cultivated soil. The phosphorus contents between soil and crop were negatively correlated. The phosphorus content of crop was increased as the relative density of AMF increased. Relative density of AMF in the organically cultivated soil and phosphorus content of the crop with organic cultivation were higher than those of conventionally cultivated.
