Effects of silt contents on the static and dynamic properties of sand-silt mixtures

  • This paper presents a detailed study focused on investigating the effects of silt content on the static and dynamic properties of sand-silt mixtures. Specimens with a low-plastic silt content of 0, 15, 30 and 50% by weight were tested in static triaxial, cyclic triaxial, and resonant columns in addition to consolidation tests to determine such parameters as compression index, internal friction angle, cohesion, cyclic stress ratio, maximum shear modulus, normalized shear modulus and damping ratio. The test procedures were performed on specimens of three cases: constant void ratio index, e = 0.582; same peak deviator stress of 290 kPa; and constant relative density, $D_r$ = 30%. The test results obtained for both the constant-void-ratio-index and constant-relative-density specimens showed that as silt content increased, the internal friction angle, cyclic stress ratio and maximum shear modulus decreased, but cohesion increased. In testing of the same deviator stress specimens, both cohesion and internal friction angle were insignificantly altered with the increase in silt content. In addition, as silt content increased, the maximum shear modulus increased. The cyclic stress ratio first decreased as silt content increased to reach the threshold silt content and increased thereafter with further increases in silt content. Furthermore, the damping ratio was investigated based on different silt contents in three types of specimens.

인슐레이터용 알루미나의 치밀화에 미치는 MgO의 함량과 소결 온도의 영향 (Effects of the Content of MgO Additive and Sintering Temperature on the Densification of Alumina Insulator)

  • The influence of MgO addition on the densification and microstructure of alumina (Al2O3) was studied. Compacted alumina specimens were manufactured using ball-milling and one-directional pressing followed by sintering at temperatures below 1700℃. Relative density, shrinkage, hardness, and microstructure were investigated using analytical tools such as FE-SEM, EDS, and XRD. When the MgO was added up to 5.0 wt% and sintered at 1500℃ and 1600℃, the relative density exhibited an average value of 97% or more at both temperatures. The maximum density of 99.2% was with the addition of 0.5 wt% MgO at 1500℃. Meanwhile, the specimens showed significantly lower density values when sintered at 1400℃ than at 1500℃ and 1600℃ owing to the relatively low sintering temperature. The hardness and shrinkage data also showed a similar trend in the change in density, implying that the addition of approximately 0.5 wt% MgO can promote the densification of Al2O3. Studying the microstructure confirmed the uniformity of the sintered alumina. These results can be used as basic compositional data for the development of MgO-containing alumina as high-dielectric insulators.

임분밀도관리도를 이용한 소나무림의 적정 임분밀도 관리 기준 및 수확목표 (The Production Objectives and Optimal Standard of Density Control Using Stand Density Management Diagram for Pinus densiflora Forests in Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 소나무 임분밀도관리도를 이용하여 소나무 임분의 건정성을 확보할 수 있는 효율적인 임분밀도 관리 기준을 마련하고 이로부터 실행가능한 임분의 생산목표를 예측하였다. 적정 임분 관리수준은 임내 세장목 비율에 대한 수량비수(Relative yield index: Ry)의 관계를 지수함수로부터 모형 추정을 하였으며, 추정 결과 모형 설명력은 0.424로 나타났다. 임내 세장목 비율은 특정 수량비수에 도달하면 급격히 증가하는 경향이 나타났고, 이 관계식을 근거로 하여 목표하는 적정 Ry 값 0.84를 구하였다. 적정 임분밀도 관리 기준인 Ry 0.84 값의 곡선과 중부지방소나무의 우세목 수고를 예측하여 지위지수별 생산목표를 설정하였다. 중부지방소나무 지위지수 10~16의 범위에서 벌기령을 60년으로 할 때 예측되는 수확본수는 ha당 425~1,311본으로 나타났다. 목표 흉고직경은 지위지수 16이상에서 30 cm 이상 중경재 생산이 가능하며, 지위 14와 12는 20 cm 이상 소경재 생산, 지위 10은 20 cm 미만 소경재 생산이 가능할 것으로 예측되었다.

Full Geometry Optimizations of Bond-Stretch Isomers of C202+ Fullerene Dication by the Hybrid Density Functional B3LYP Methods

  • We studied the relative stability and atomic structure of five $C_{20}^{2+}$ isomers obtained by two-electron ionization of a $C_{20}$ cage (the smallest fullerene). All the isomers are bond-stretch isomers, i.e., they differ in bond length. In particular, in one of the isomers with Ih symmetry, all the bond lengths are equal. Full geometry optimizations of the dipositive ion $C_{20}^{2+}$ were performed using the hybrid density functional (B3LYP/6-31G(d)) methods. All isomers were found to be true minima by frequency analysis at the level of B3LYP/6-31G(d) under the reinforced tight convergence criterion and a pruned (99,590) grid. The zero-point correction energy for the cage bond-stretch isomers was in the increasing order $D_{2h}<C_{2h}<C_2<T_h<I_h$ of $C_{20}^{2+}$. The energy difference among the isomers of cage dipositive ions was less than that among neutral cage isomers. Our results suggest that these isomers show bond-stretch isomerism and that they have an identical spin state and an identical potential energy curve. Although the predominant electronic configurations of the isomers are similar, the frontier orbital characteristics are different, implying that we could anticipate an entirely different set of characteristic chemical reactions for each type of HOMO and LUMO.

고밀도 STS316L 합금 적층 성형체의 제조공정 최적화 및 인장 특성 연구 (Study on the optimization of additive manufacturing process parameters to fabricate high density STS316L alloy and its tensile properties)

  • STS316L 합금의 Laser powder bed fusion 공정 최적화를 위하여 Laser power, Scan speed 및 Hatching distance의 공정조건을 제어하면서 투입 레이저 에너지 밀도와 조형체의 상대밀도와의 상관관계를 연구했고, 최적조건으로 제작된 조형체의 적층 방향에 따른 인장특성 변화를 분석했다. STS316L 분말을 에너지밀도가 55.6 J/mm3, 83.3 J/mm3 및 111.1 J/mm3인 조건에서 적층 성형한 결과, 투입 레이저 에너지밀도가 83.3 J/mm3이며, Power 및 Scan speed 각각 225 W, 1000 mm/s인 조건에서 가장 안정적으로 고밀도 STS316L 샘플을 제작할 수 있었다. 최적공정조건을 이용해 적층 방향과 인장방향이 각각 0°, 45°, 90°인 인장시험편을 제작하여 인장특성을 비교한 결과 적층 방향과 인장방향이 수직인 시험편의 항복강도, 인장강도 및 연신율이 가장 우수한 것이 확인되었다. 적층 방향과 수직 방향으로의 이방성을 가지는 기공 및 Lack of fusion 결함이 응력집중을 야기하여 인장특성을 열화 시키기 때문인 것으로 추정된다.

제주연안 퇴적층의 고결 평가 (Evaluation of Cementation Effect of Jeju Coastal Sediments)

  • 본 연구에서는 제주특별자치도 강정항 인근 해역에서 채취한 해사의 기본특성을 분석하고, 실내 챔버시험으로부터 미고결 제주해사의 콘선단저항-상대밀도-연직구속압의 관계를 결정하였다. 또한 현장 표준관입시험, 콘관입시험, Suspension-PS 검층을 수행하여 제주인근 해역 퇴적층의 고결가능성을 평가하였다. 시험결과, 제주해사는 입자의 각진 정도가 크고 입자표면과 내부에 공극이 발달하여 최대, 최소간극비가 큰 탄산염 모래의 특성을 가지고 있었으며, 큰 압축성을 가진 규산염 모래와 유사한 콘선단저항 분포를 나타내었다. 그러나 미고결 제주해사의 $q_c-D_R-{\sigma}_v'$ 관계는 제주인근 해역 퇴적층의 상대밀도를 과대평가하였다. 관입시험(CPT, SPT) 결과와 Suspension-PS 시험에 의한 미소변형전단탄성계수를 비교한 결과, 제주인근 해역의 퇴적층은 고결 가능성이 매우 높은 것으로 확인되었다.

  • In this study, we reported the microstructure and properties of Ag-$SnO_2$ contact materials fabricated by a controlled milling process with subsequent consolidation. The milled powders were consolidated to bulk samples using a magnetic pulsed compaction process. The nano-scale $SnO_2$ phases were distributed homogeneously in the Ag matrix after the consolidation. The relative density and hardness of the Ag-$SnO_2$ contact materials were 95~96% and 89~131 Hv, respectively.

방전플라즈마 소결 공정을 이용한 WC-Co-B4C 소재의 기계적 특성평가 (Mechanical Property Evaluation of WC-Co-B4C Hard Materials by a Spark Plasma Sintering Process)

  • In this study, binderless-WC, WC-6 wt%Co, WC-6wt% 1 and 2.5 B4C materials are fabricated by spark plasma sintering process (SPS process). Each fabricated WC material is almost completely dense, with a relative density up to 99.5 % after the simultaneous application of pressure of 60 MPa. The WC added Co and Co-B4C materials resulted in crystalline growth. The WC with HCP crystal structure has respective interfacial energy (basal facet direction: 1.07 ~ 1.34 J·m-2, prismatic direction: 1.43 ~ 3.02 J·m-2) that depends on the grain growth direction. It is confirmed that the continuous grain growth, biased by the basal facet, which has relatively low energy, is promoted at the WC/Co interface. As abnormal grain growth takes place, the grain size increases more than twice from 0.37 to 0.8 um. It is found through analysis that the hardness property also greatly decreases from about 2661.4 to 1721.4 kg/mm2, along with the grain growth.

미세파편 및 입자를 활용한 극초음속 비행체 요격 연구 (A Study on the Interception using Fine Fragments and Particles to Hypersonic Vehicles)

  • This paper describes the interception using fine fragments and particles to hypersonic vehicles which have a vulnerability in thermal and pressure during glide-phase flight. This interception concept is based on the fast relative velocity and the flight vulnerability of hypersonic vehicles. For the density calculation of fragmentation and particle in interception, error analysis of end-phase was performed including radar, intercept missile and target maneuvering errors. In relation to the vulnerability and error analysis, the penetration characteristics of fine fragments in high temperature were analyzed. Presented the interception in glide-phase could be applied to the concept of horizontal multi-layer defense to hypersonic vehicles.
