  • MR(Model Reduction) is presented in order to estimate the frequency of multiple sinusoids from the finite noisy data with the white or colored noises. MR, using the reduced rank models, is designed, appling the approximation of linear system to LP(Linear Prediction). The MR method is analyzed. Monte-carlo simulations are conducted for MR and Lp. The results are compared with in terms of mean, root-mean square and relative bias. MR eliminates effectevely the extremeous and exceptional poles appearing in LP and improves the accuracy of LP. Especially, MR gives promising results in short noisy measurements, low SNR's and colored noises. Power spectral density and angular frequency position are showed by figures, for examples. Finally, the new method is utilized to the communication and biomedical systems estimating the characteristics of the signal and the system identification modelling the dynamic systems from experimental data.

  • The integration method of carier concentrations to redcue the discretization error of th box integratio method used in the discretization of the three-dimensional poisson's equation is presented. The carrier concentration is approximated in the closed form as an exponential function of the linearly varying potential in the element. The presented method is implemented in the three-dimensional poisson's equation solver running under the windows 95. The accuracy and the convergence chaacteristics of the three-dimensional poisson's equation solver are compared with those of DAVINCI for the PN junction diode and the n-MOSFET under the thermal equilibrium and the DC reverse bias. The potential distributions of the simulatied devices from the three-dimensional poisson's equation solver, compared with those of DAVINCI, has a relative error within 2.8%. The average number of iterations needed to obtain the solution of the PN junction diode and the n-MOSFET using the presented method are 11.47 and 11.16 while the those of DAVINCI are 21.73 and 23.0 respectively.

  • In this paper, a new approach is proposed for effectively estimating the occupied bandwidth of frequency modulation (FM) signals. The proposed method makes use of the smoothing niter for removing the perturbation of spectrum envelope, which frequently occurs in FM signals having the instantaneous frequency. An effective procedure is derived for finding the relatively accurate bandwidth of FM signals combined with x-dB bandwidth measurement method, which International Telecommunication Union-Radiocommunication (ITU-R) recommended. It was shown that the proposed approach provides superior performance relative to the one obtained with the x-dB bandwidth measurement method in terms of sample bias and mean squared error of bandwidth estimates.

  • Samples are often found to be too heterogeneous to be explained by a one-parameter family of models in the sense that the implicit mean-variance relationship in such a family is violated by the data. This phenomenon is often called over-dispersion. The most frequently used method in dealing with over-dispersion is to mix a one-parameter family creating a two parameter marginal mixture family for the data. In this paper, we investigate performance of estimators such as maximum likelihood estimator, method of moment estimator, and maximum quasi-likelihood estimator in negative binomial and beta-binomial distribution. Simulations are done for various mean parameter and dispersion parameter in both distributions, and we conclude that the moment estimators are very superior in the sense of bias and asymptotic relative efficiency.

  • This paper describes a design experience of a low-cost 6 DOF spatial tracker system where relative low accuracy and relatively long ranges, wireless communication will be achieved by means of low cost accelerometers and gyros with contemporary microprocessor. However, there are two key problems; one is the bias drift problem and the other is that single or double integration of acceleration signal suffers not only from noise but also from nonlinear effects caused by gravity. To be specific, beginning and stopping of hand motions needs to be accurately detected to initiate and terminate integration process to get position and pose of the hand from accelerometer and gyro signals, since errors due to noise and/or hand-shaking motions accumulated by integration processes. Several experimental results are shown to validate our proposed algorithms.

  • It is well known that using any additional information in the estimation of unknown parameters with new sample of observations diminishes the sampling units needed and minimizes the risk of new estimators. There are many rational reasons to assure that the existence of additional information in practice and there exists many practical cases in which additional information is available in the form of target value (initial value) about the unknown parameters. This article is described the problem of how the prior initial value about the unknown parameters can be utilized and combined with classical Bayes estimator to get a new combination of Bayes estimator and prior value to improve the properties of the new combination. In this article, two classes of Bayes-shrinkage and preliminary test Bayes-shrinkage estimators are proposed for the scale parameter of exponential distribution. The bias, risk and risk ratio expressions are derived and studied. The performance of the proposed classes of estimators is studied for different choices of constants engaged in the estimators. The comparisons, conclusions and recommendations are demonstrated.

  • The aim of a benchmark study is carried out nine methods are employed for ULS analysis which implicitly predict the ultimate strength of aluminium stiffened panels under axial compression. For this purpose, DNV PULS, experimental and numerical data on the ultimate strength of panels were collected. Comparison of these experimental / numerical, DNV PULS / numerical, results with theoretical solutions by the candidate methods is performed. Also it's compared that ALPS/ULSAP program is based on closed-form formula for the ULS of plates and grillages under axial compression. It is considered that ALPS/ULSAP methodology provides quite accurate and reasonable ULS calculations by a comparison with more refined FEA. Comparison of these experimental data, numerical, computational software results with the simplified solutions obtained by the candidate methods is then performed. The model uncertainties associated with the candidate methods are studied in terms of mean bias and COV (i.e., coefficient of variation) against experiments and numerical solutions, and the relative performance of the various methods is discussed.

  • This study has been investigated that traps generated inside of the oxide and at the oxide interfaces by the stress bias voltage. The traps are charged near the cathode with negative charge and charged near the anode with positive charge. The charge state of the traps can easily be changed by application of low voltages after the stress high voltage. These trap generation involve either electron impact ionization processes or high field generation processes. It determined to the relative traps locations inside the oxides ranges from 113.4A to 814A with capacitor areas of 10$^{-3}$ $\textrm{cm}^2$ The oxide charge state of traps generated by the stress high voltage contain either a positive or negative charge.

  • The two-halo conformity is that if a central galaxy in a dark matter halo is quenched in star formation, the central galaxies in other neighboring halos (within ~ 4 Mpc) even with no causal contact seem conformed to be quenched. The galactic similarity ranging far beyond the virial radius of each dark matter halo cannot be explained by known environmental effects (ram pressure, tidal interaction, etc.). Here, using a cosmological hydrodynamic simulation, we put forward new physical origins for the phenomenon; the back-splash galaxies scenario and the halo assembly bias scenario. We discuss the relative importance of the two explanations on a quantitative basis.

  • This paper evaluated the relative efficiency of 33 provincial medical centers using Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) and compared the DEA efficiency results with those of the current method conducted by the management evaluation team. DEA Was selected as an alternative efficiency evaluation method since it could handle multiple inputs and multiple outputs simultaneously and identify the sources of inefficiency. To analyze the sensitivity of productivity values to the variable sets, four different sets of input and output variables were identified. Results showed that most of the medical centers are operating far away from the efficiency frontier supporting the previous results. Some centers showed 100% efficiency regardless of the selected variable sets. DEA results are compared with current management evaluation results. Some inconsistencies were found for some DMUs between the results of two methods showing the existence of methodology bias. DEA results and ratio analyses results mostly agree for 1992 data.
