  • The purpose of this study was to manufacture a wrist brace using a computerized tomography system, clinical design software (MediACE 3D Program), and 3D printer. After acquiring the Dicom file of the upper limb with a computed tomography, the wrist brace was designed using the MediACE 3D Program to create a "stereolithography" file. The designed wrist brace was printed using a 3D printer. To verify the effectiveness of wrist assistive device manufactured by 3D printing technology, the stress distribution of the pressure and orthosis applied to bone and skin is represented by finite element analysis. It is expected that the wrist brace can be manufactured by reinforcing the part where the damage caused by pressure and breakage of the brace frequently occurs with the result of finite element analysis when producing the wrist brace.

  • Recycling glass fiber, 'F-fiber,' was obtained by the separation of the roving layer from waste FRP and the concrete products or structures were considered for its application. Experiment was carried out for the bending strength of aggregate (2.45 of cement) by weight and F-fiber (density of 1.45, volume ratio to all of the aggregate and the cement). Whereas the specimen containing 1% F-fiber showed the bending strength 23% higher than that without F-fiber after curing far 28 days, the one with 0.5% F-fiber did not give any change. It could be found, therefore, that the minimum mixing amount should be larger than 0.5% fur the strength reinforcement. One of the reinforcing concrete product, bench flume, containing 1% F-fiber showed 21% increment of bending strength In contrast to that without F-fiber.

  • This study investigated the performance of the child care policies implemented by the former government and analyzes some changes in child care policies by the new government in Korea. The criteria for evaluating child care policies of both governments were based on suggestions gleaned from OECD policy review papers on Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) in 2004 and 2006. As suggested by the OECD, the input of financial investment in public sectors, universal approaches to child care, measures of quality programs, efforts for improving the work environment of child care workers and selecting effective ways of providing financial support for child care were applied in order to evaluate the child care policies in Korea. A number of policy documents and literature published by both governments from 2003-2009 were reviewed in order to evaluate and compare the former child care policies with the more recent ones. The child care policies enacted by the former Korean government were characterized as the remarkable increases in financial investment to establish a child care infrastructure for quality programs and services, and efforts to enact universal approaches to child care, policy making based on scientific data on child care. These advances were tempered by the observation that despite all these improvements, both investment and expansion in the public child care sector were far below sufficient levels. In contrast, some changes in the child care policies by the new government were criticized in terms of weakening public child care, reinforcing private child care and it's conservative financial support system.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the inelastic behavior of reinforced high-strength concrete bridge columns. A computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model ol reinforcing steel. The smeared rack approach is incorporated. The increase of concrete strength due to the lateral confining reinforcement has been also taken into account to model the confined high-strength concrete. The proposed numerical method for the inelastic behavior of reinforced high-strength concrete bridge columns is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • This paper presents an analysis procedures of Joints in precast segmental prestressed concrete bridge piers. A computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. An unbended tendon element based on the finite element method, that can represent the interaction between tendon and concrete of prestressed concrete member, is used. A joint element is newly developed to predict the inelastic behaviors of segmental joints. The proposed numerical method for joints in precast segmental prestressed concrete bridge piers is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • This paper presented an structural efficiency of steel coupling beam jointed single plate shear connections with seat and top angle. Parameters for the test specimens were are seat and top angle, reinforcing of concrete, embedded length, section loss. Steel coupling beam with angle showed excellent strength, stiffness, energy dissipation capacity. The specimen with no reinforcement around the embedded steel plate showed slightly low deformation capacity because of early failure in the precast concrete walls. However, the specimen with reinforcement around the embedded steel plate showed good deformation capacity. Deformation capacity was not decrease despite short embedded length. The specimen with section loss showed excellent deformation capacity. Because shear strength of steel coupling beam was lesser than of connections. These results showed that for workability and cost efficiency, the proposed system is promising for one of steel coupling beam.

  • Problems of housing, healthcare, social exchanges, and lonely feelings of vulnerable social groups such as the elderly living alone in rural and fishing villages should be resolved by guaranteeing minimum residential rights and levels to restore the sense of self-esteem and social stability and to maintain the rural communities and these should be the object of social interest and support. The housing problems of rural and fishing villages should be resolved not through supply to meet demand but by beginning with providing the ways to attain mutual interaction through the program that recognizes housing as merit goods to maintain the regional communities This research examines more minutely the problems caused by poor housing conditions of rural and fishing villages and attempts to present rural and fishing village type community living home as an alternative through regeneration. The results of this research are as follows. First, the administrative support system should be built to support the community living home in its beginning, process, completion, and even post management. Second, education for reinforcing capabilities to help understand the community living home should continually conducted on the occupants, villagers, and related organizations. Third, in order to expand the community living home, research and development should be made so that the zero-energy house, the alternative energy utilizing house, etc. can be widely used. In building community living home for vulnerable social groups in rural and fishing villages, practical alternatives suitable to the regional realities should be presented and practiced so that the community living home can be built to the satisfaction of all the villagers and the occupants, and the improvement measures should be presented through constant interest and monitoring.

  • It is necessary, in the light of the importance of long-term slope stability problem, to develop a simple method or tool which can figure out the possible failure surface resulting from weathering effect and other factors. The FBG(Fiber Bragg Crating) sensor system is used to estimate the correlations between the soil temperature and the slope behavior, and to find a failure surface in slopes effectively. This research is to seek for the correlation between the soil temperature distribution and the strain distribution of the reinforcing materials in an active zone by analyzing the data from the in-situ measurement so that the possible failure surface should be well defined based on the correlation. The zone of high temperature fluctuation can be regarded as one of the possible failure surface due to the weathering effect while the constant temperature depth of the ground, if exists, would not be relatively affected by the weathering process.

  • Loading tests were carried out for model geocell to study the reinforcing effect by variation of tensile strength, cell height, soil density and embedded depth of geocell. From the result, it could be seen that the ultimate bearing capacity of the geocell system was influenced rather by the connection strength than by the tensile strength of geocell material. Bearing capacity increased with the increase of height to width ratio of geocell for the same relative density, strength and embedded depth. And the bearing capacity ratio(BCR) was higher at low relative density of sand than that of high relative density. The increase of bearing capacity was higher at geocell with high tensile strength than that of low tensile strength. And the influence was clear at higher relative density. Also the BCR was higher at shallow embedded depth of geocell. Without consideration of tensile strength of material, the application of bearing capacity formula suggested by Koerner seems not suitable for the special case with low tensile strength of geocell material.

  • In this paper, a nonlinear finite element procedure is presented for the dynamic analysis of reinforced concrete shells. A computer program, named RCAHEST(reinforced concrete analysis in higher evaluation system technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. A 4-node flat shell element will drilling rotational stiffness is used for spatial discretization. The layered approach is used to discretize behavior of concrete and reinforcement through the thickness. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The smeared crack approach is incorporated. Solution of the equations of motion is obtained by numerical integration using Hilber-Hughes-Taylor(HHT) algorithm. The proposed numerical method for the nonlinear dynamic analysis of reinforced concrete shells is verified by comparison with reliable analytical results.
