In the concrete structures, the magnitude and distribution of the temperature due to the heat of hydration are related to the thermal properties of each component composed of the concrete, the initial temperature, the type of formwork, and the ambient temperature of exposed surfaces. Even though the reinforcing steel bar has completely different thermal properties, it has been excluded. In the thermal analysis on the concrete structures. In this study, finite element analysis was performed on the concrete structures including the reinforcing steel in order to investigate their effect on temperature and stress distribution due to the heat of hydration. As the steel ratio increased, the maximum temperature and the internal-external temperature difference decreased by 32.5% and 10%, respectively. It is clear that the inclusion of reinforcing steel bars on the heat of hydration analysis is indispensable to obtain realistic solutions for the prediction of the maximum temperature and stresses
Reinforcing soils with the geosynthetics have been shown to be an effective method for improving the uplift capacity of granular soils. The pull-out resistance of the reinforcing elements is one of the most notable factors in increasing the uplift capacity. In this paper, a new reinforcing element including the elements (anchors) attached to the ordinary geogrid for increasing the pull-out resistance of the reinforcement, is used. Thus, the reinforcement consists of the geogrid and anchors with the cylindrical plastic elements attached to it, namely grid-anchors. A three-dimensional numerical study, employing the commercial finite difference software FLAC-3D, was performed to investigate the uplift capacity of the pipelines buried in sand reinforced with this system. The models were used to investigate the effect of the pipe diameter, burial depth, soil density, number of the reinforcement layers, width of the reinforcement layer, and the stiffness of geogrid and anchors on the uplift resistance of the sandy soils. The outcomes reveal that, due to a developed longer failure surface, inclusion of grid-anchor system in a soil deposit outstandingly increases the uplift capacity. Compared to the multilayer reinforcement, the single layer reinforcement was more effective in enhancing the uplift capacity. Moreover, the efficiency of the reinforcement layer inclusion for uplift resistance in loose sand is higher than dense sand. Besides, the efficiency of reinforcement layer inclusion for uplift resistance in lower embedment ratios is higher. In addition, by increasing the pipe diameter, the efficiency of the reinforcement layer inclusion will be lower. Results demonstrate that, for the pipes with an outer diameter of 50 mm, the grid-anchor system of reinforcing can increase the uplift capacity 2.18 times greater than that for an ordinary geogrid and 3.20 times greater than that for non-reinforced sand.

In this study, to examine the effect of the transverse thermal expansion behavior of FRP reinforcing bars and concrete on the concrete cover thickness, based on 20℃, when the temperature changes from -70℃ to 80℃, the behavior of concrete was studied theoretically and numerically. Theoretical elastic analysis and nonlinear finite element analysis were performed on FRP reinforced concrete with different diameters and cover thicknesses of FRP reinforcement. As a result, at a negative temperature difference, concrete was compressed, and the theoretical strain result and the finite element result were similar, but at a positive temperature difference, tensile stress and further cracks occurred in the concrete, which was 1.2 to 1.4 times larger than the theoretical result. The ratio of the diameter of the FRP reinforcing bar to the thickness of the concrete cover (c/db) is closely related to the occurrence of cracks. Since the transverse thermal expansion coefficient of FRP reinforcing bars is three times greater than that of concrete, it is necessary to consider this in design.

The object of this study was to find out the effect of various reinforcing materials including Quarts Splint$^{TM}$ Mesh on the transverse strength of the denture resin. QC-20 and Lucitone199$^{(R)}$ were used as the denture resin, and polyethylene fiber Ribbond$^{(R)}$, light curing quarts fiber Quarts Splint$^{TM}$ Mesh, metal mesh were used as the reinforcing materials. Ten specimens were fabricated for each group and the size of specimens was $2.0{\times}10.0{\times}65.0mm$. To compare the effect of resin thickness, additional specimens of $2.5{\times}10.0{\times}65.0mm$, $3.0{\times}10.0{\times}65.0mm$ were fabricated. In the control group, the transverse strength of Lucitone199$^{(R)}$ was significantly higher than that of QC-20(p<0.05). Among the specimens of 2.0 mm thickness fabricated with $Lucitone199^{(R)}$ and QC-20, they showed high transverse strength in the order of metal mesh, Quarts Splint$^{TM}$ Mesh, Ribbond$^{(R)}$, and control group. In the specimens of 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm thickness, the transverse strength of Quarts Splint$^{TM}$ Mesh were significantly higher than that of QC-20(p<0.05). But in the specimens of 3.0 mm thickness, there was no significant difference.

The purpose of this paper is to induce the ductile behavior of the UHPFRC member after the peak load by using the bundle of longitudinal reinforcing bar as a substitute for steel fiber. Experiments on the flexural behavior of the Ultra High Performance Concrete rectangular beam with the combination of the steel fiber and longitudinal reinforcing bar were carried out. The volume fractions of steel fiber are 0%, 0.7%, 1%, 1.5%, 2% and the reinforcement ratios of longitudinal reinforcing bar which induce the ductile behavior are 0.0036, 0.016, 0.028 and 0.036. 15 UHPC beams were made with the combination of these test factors. Not only steel fiber but also bundle of longitudinal reinforcing bar has the effect to induce ductile behavior of UHPC structural member. The combination of 0.7% volume fraction of steel fiber and 0.028 reinforcement ratio showed the most economic combination. The relationship of load-deflection, strain variation of the concrete and the crack pattern indicate the usefulness of the bundle of the longitudinal bar which has small diameter with close arrangement each other.

Bond strength of reinforcing bar to high-perfomance concrete using belite cement is explored using beam end test specimens. The key parameters for the bond test are slump of concrete, top bar effect, and strength of concrete in addition to concrete cover. The test results show that the specimens with belite cement concrete show approximately 10% higer bond strength than those with portland cement concrete. The results also show that the bond strength from the high strength concrete is function of the square root of concrete compressive strength. Bond strength of the top bar is less than bond strength of bottom bar, but the ratios of the bond strength of bottom-cast bars to those for top-cast bars are much less than the modification factor for top reinforcement found in the ACI 318-95 code. Comparisons with other reported tests identified that belite cement increased bond strength while silica fume or flyash used in high strength concrete decreased bond strength. The high-strength and high-slump concrete with belite cement performs well in terms of bond strength to reinforcing steel.

This paper presents an analytical prediction of the hysteresis behavior of reinforced concrete long column with rectangular section under the cyclic loading state. The mechanical characteristic of cracked concrete and reinforcing bar in concrete has been modeled, considering the bond effect between reinforcing bar and concrete, the effect of aggregate interlocking at crack surface and the stiffness degradation after the crack has taken place. The strength increase of concrete due to the lateral confining reinforcement has been also taken into account to model the confined concrete. The formulation of these models for concrete and reinforcing bar has been based on the smeared crack concept that the stress-strain relationship of reinforced concrete element would be defined using the average values. In addition to the material nonlinear properties, the algorithm for large displacement problem that may give an additional deformation has been formulated using total Lagrangian formulation. The analytically predicted behavior was compared with test result and they showed good agreement in overall behavior.

Many researchers have reported that adding steel fiber to concrete improved its tensile and flexural strength significantly, but relatively few studies have been made on the compressive behavior of steel fiber-reinforced concrete. It is still less in case of high strength steel fiber-reinforced cementitious composites(SFRC). The main objective of this research is to examine the effect of adding steel fiber on the compressive strength of high strength SFRC using fiber reinforcing index(RI, $V_f(I_f/d_f)$). It was found from the study that compressive strength was noticeably increased in proportion to RI. In conclusion, the relationship between Reinforcing Index(RI) and compressive strength in case of high strength steel fiber-reinforced cementitious composites was suggested.

Many constitutive models for concrete have been developed to predict the nonlinear behavior of concrete members considerably. The constitutive model for reinforcing bar that include the tension stiffening effect due to the bond characteristics between steel bars and concrete is being studied but the bilinear model is generally used. It was found that the buckling of the longitudinal reinforcing bars is controlled the nonlinear behavior of hybrid precast concrete panel, which is being developed for core wall. In this study, the constitutive models that can consider the embedding and buckling effects of reinforcing bar are investigated and a new model combing these constitutive models is proposed. In order to verify the proposed model, the analysis results are compared with experimental results of the concrete wall and hybrid precast concrete panel. The analysis of embedding-effect-only modeling predicted that the deformation increases continually without the decrease in the load carrying capacity. However, the analysis results of proposed model showed good agreement with some experimental results, thus verifying the proposed computational model.
