The compressive strength of horizontal joints in precast concrete large panel structures depends on parameters such as grout and panel strength, detail of joint, joint moment, width of grout column, and etc. 44 specimens were tested to investigate the effects of parameters that influence the compressive strength of horizontal joints. The design formula specified in Korean Cock for compression horizontal joints must be reviewed, because it was based on the test results of the joint types not used in Korea. In this study comparing the test results, there fore, the validity of the design formulas was evaluated and a suitable formula was proposed to predict the ultimate strengths of compression horizontal joints. The increase of ultimate strengths was not observed, even if confined the horizontal displacement of slabs and reinforced the wall edge, when the grout strength is lower than panel strength. From the comparison of test results and those by the proposed formula, it was shown that proposed formula was suitable to predict the ultimate compressive strength of horizontal joints.
After earthquakes FRP sheets are often used for the rehabilitation of damaged Reinforced Concrete (RC) beamcolumn connections. Connections with minor to moderate damage are often dealt with by applying FRP sheets after a superficial repair of the cracks using resin paste or high strength mortar but without infusion of thin resin solution under pressure into the cracking system. This technique is usually adopted in these cases due to the fast and easy-to-apply procedure. The experimental investigation reported herein aims at evaluating the effectiveness of repairing the damaged beam-column connections using FRP sheets after a meticulous but superficial repair of their cracking system using resin paste. The investigation comprises experimental results of 10 full scale beam-column joint specimens; five original joints and the corresponding retrofitted ones. The repair technique has been applied to RC joints with different joint reinforcement arrangements with minor to severe damage brought about by cyclic loading for the purposes of this work. Aiming at quantitative concluding remarks about the effectiveness of the repair technique, data concerning response loads, loading stiffness and energy absorption values have been acquired and commented upon. Furthermore, comparisons of damage index values and values of equivalent viscous damping, as obtained during the test of the original specimens, with the corresponding ones observed in the loading of the repaired ones have also been evaluated and commented. Based on these comparisons, it is deduced that the technique under investigation can be considered to be a rather satisfactory repair technique for joints with minor to moderate damage taking into account the rapid, convenient and easy-to-apply character of its application.
This work features the outcomes of an empirical investigation into the characteristics of steel reinforced grout (SRG) composite - concrete interfaces. The parameters varied were loading rate, densities of steel fibres and types of load displacement responses or measurements (slip and machine grips). The following observations and results were derived from standard single-lap shear tests. Interfacial debonding of SRG - concrete joints is a function of both fracture of matrix along the bond interface and slippage of fibre. A change in the loading rate results in a variation in peak load (Pmax) and the correlative stress (σmax), slip and machine grips readings at measured peak load. Further analysis of load responses revealed that the behaviour of load responses is shaped by loading rate, fibre density as well as load response measurement variable. Notably, the out-of-plane displacement at peak load increased with increments in load rates and were independent of specimen fibre densities.
The strengthening of reinforced concrete structures using externally bonded steel or advanced fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) composites is becoming increasingly common. A key factor affecting the behaviour and reliability of such strengthened structures is the bond strength between the steel or FRP plate and the concrete substrate. Several different experimental set-ups have previously been used to determine bond strength. This paper presents a careful finite element analysis of the stress distributions in these test set-ups. Results show that stress distributions can be significantly different for different set-ups, for similar materials and geometry.

In this study, the experimental results were simulated by using a nonlinear analysis programs IDARC 2D and RUAUMOKO 2D. These programs use a global Takeda-like model. The objectives of this study is to verify the correlation between the experimental and analytical responses of reinforced concrete (RC) frame and to provide the calibration to the available static inelastic analysis techniques. The evaluation of the accuracy of analytical simulation by IDARC 2D and RUAUMOKO 2D leads to the conclusion that the global behaviors can be, in general, simulated with limited accuracy in the linear analysis as detailing.
The purpose of this study is to spread beam plastic hinging zone of the high-strength($f'_c=700kg/cm^2$) reinforced concrete beam-column joints away from the column face by vertically anchored intermediate reinforcements. The newly proposed intermediate reinforcements which are vertically anchored by interlinking each intermediate rebars are tested to insure the ductile behavior of R /C beam-column joins. Main variable is the shape of intermediate reinforcements. From the test results, the newly proposed intermediate rebar detail can move arid expand the beam plastic hinging zone about 1.Od from column face and can delay the strength decay of the high-strength R /C beam-column joint. Also energy dissipation capacity of specimen IV-1.OD10 which is reinforced by vertically anchored intermediate rebars about 1.0d is 1.6 times as high as the specimen CM-STAN which is designed by ACI318-89.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the seismic behavior of precast segmental PSC bridge columns. For the analysis of reinforced concrete structures, a computer program named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology) is used. To represent the interaction between tendon and concrete of a prestressed concrete member, a bonded or unbonded tendon element based on the finite element method is used. A joint element is modified to predict the inelastic behaviors of segmental joints. The solution of the equations of motion is obtained by numerical integration using Hilber-Hughes-Taylor (HHT) algorithm. The proposed numerical method gives a realistic prediction of seismic behavior throughout the input ground motions for numerical examples.

The purpose of this study is to make a contribution to the construction of 40∼60 story R/C high rise building by developing the reinforcing details which can improve the seismic performance of high-strength (f'c=700㎏/㎠, fy=4000, 8000㎏/㎠) R/C beam-column joints. The reinforcing details which can make beam plastic hinging zones moved and spreaded from the column face is proposed to insure the ductile behavior of high-strength RC beam-column joints. The intermediate reinforcement which is vertically anchored by interlinking each intermediate reinforcements is proposed and tested to examine the mechanical performance of proposed details. Main variables are the shape of the intermediate reinforcements and yield strength of rebars. From the test results, the newly proposed intermediate reinforcement details can move and spread the beam plastic hinging zone about 1.0d from the column face.

A basic assumption in the current design and analysis of reinforced concrete(RC) box structures, which are constructed by the open cut and fill method, is that the displacements and forces are uniform in the longitudinal direction of the structure. The solution may be therefore obtatined from the analysis of a unit wide strip along longitudinal axis. This strip is said to be in a plane strain condition, meaning that the out of plane deformations are vanished. The current design of box structure is carried out by the result of planar frame model for the sake of simplicity. The purpose of this study is to show more rational design method of box culverts considering a rigid zone of corner joints. The current analysis of box structures will be compared with the plane strain analysis as well as 3-d shell model. Reinforcement quantity is also determined to resist the tensile force in corner joints of box structures using strut-tie model which has been developed through the elastic analysis.

In this research, 13 RC slabs connected by hinged joints were tested. the new slab was connected to the existing slab by hinge joint injecting dowel bars between two slabs. Main parameters of the slabs were the spacing of the dowel bars (150mm, 300mm, and 450mm) and the locations of the longitudinal reinforcement of the old slab. The test results indicated that the joint strength of the RC test slabs having various types of dowel bars was about twice that calculated by the ACI 318-02 code. The locations of the longitudinal reinforcement of the old slab slightly increased the strength of the slabs connected by hinged joints.
