  • Interest in mannual therapy appears to continue to grow among physical therapists. The term 'mannual therapy' has traditionally been associated with physical therapists who examine and treat Patients who have disorders related to the neuro-muscular-articular system.. The manipulative means skilled and specialised use of manual and/or mechanically applied movement techniques, as a part of comprehensive orthopaedic physical therapy for disorders of the moving parts of body. Physical therapists use a large variety of manually applied examination procedures as part of the clincal decision-making process. The purpose of this article is to define and clarify the basic concepts of mannual therapy by comparing the geneal concepts and evaluation schemes of James Cyriax, John McM. Mennell, Geoffrey Maitland, Freddy Kaltenborn, Robin McKenzie, and Ola Grimsby. This article stresses the importance of developing stills in evaluation. Gimsby's approch is presented as a example of modem mannual therapy.

  • The age of specialization is upon physical therapy, as evidenced by the many special interest group. One of the special interest is manual therapy, which is the study of neurology, biomechanic, behavior science and pathology as well as the application of evaluative and treatment techniques of the neuromusculoskeletal system. Trend of manual therapy cover the whole medical in Europe. but America has two categories which is the neurologic manual therapy and the orthopedic manual therapy. The neurologic manual therapy was integrated with theory of PNF, Bobath technique, Vojta which is neurophysiologic approach concept. It is called motor control. A key aspect of the motor control requires a through knowledge of neurobiologic, biomechanic, and behavioral science. The orthopedic manual therapy runs to the evaluation and treatment of joints and their surrounding structures increase or decrease mobility and Fain control. In this article has to define and clarify the basic concepts of orthopedic manual therapy by comparing the general concepts, evaluation schemes, and treatment procedures of John McM Mennell, James Cyriax, Geoffrey Maitland, Freddy Kaltenborn and Ola Grimsby.

  • This study was introduce to Manual Therapy of Mulligan. The use of sustained natural apophyseal glides (SNAGS) and mobilisation with movement(MWM) for spine and peripheral joints has been developed by Mulligan. A mobilisation is applied parallel or right angles to restricted joint movement. If the applied mobilisation achieves immediate improvement in the functional movement and abolishes the pain the treatment involves sustaining the mobilisation while the patient performs the active movement repetitively. On reassessment of the joint function the movement should remain improved without the mobilisation. Theories as to why these techniques provide rapid improvement in pain-free range are proposed, and general principle of examination and treatment are outlined.

  • Purpose: The first purpose of this study was to determine the effect of reciprocal inhibition that influence changes in pain when applied to patients with culf cramps. The second purpose of this study was to determine the effect of manual therapy on iliaosacral joint that influence changes number of occurrences when applied to patients with frequent nocturnal culf cramps. Methods: The first study using reciprocal inhibition techniques to 20 patients with calf cramps and saw the change in pain. The second study using manual therapy on iliaosacral joint to 2 patients with frequent nocturnal culf cramps and saw the change in number of occurrences during the week. Results: The pain and number of occurrences were significantly difference between pre-treatment and post treatment. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, we found that reciprocal inhibition decreased pain and that manual therapy on iliaosacral joint decreased number of occurrences.

  • This article describes verticsal dimension in its histologic and clinical aspect. Determination of correct vertical dimension of occlusion is one of the most important steps in prosthodontic rehabilitation. It is considered essential for improvement of facial esthetics and stomatognatic functions. Many techniques have been sued for measurement of the vertical dimension in dentulous and edentulous patients : pre-extraction record, physiologic rest position, swallowing, phonetics, esthetics, etc. But, there is no universally accepted or completely accurate method. Though a great deal of energy has been spent trying to find the exact position of the mandible, there is an controversial aspect of vetical dimension.

  • Repair of concrete structures has been a focus of attention in recent years not only in Japan but also worldwide. Concrete structures have fallen short of expectations at the time of construction-they should have been perpetual and maintenance-free. However, investigation into their premature deterioration reveals the primary causes: Concrete was made using inadequate materials and/or inadequate mixture proportions due to insufficient consideration and was placed inadequately under insufficient execution control. The secondary causes include insufficient consideration at the time of construction for the environmental conditions to which the structures were to be exposed. In any event, in the current economic climate, structures cannot be demolished and rebuilt as soon as they are damaged, but instead are expected to continue to be in service as long as possible with appropriate repair or retrofitting. This paper analyzes the causes of deterioration requiring repair and introduces relevant repair techniques. At the end, the repair project of the Sanyo Shinkansen Line in which the author was involved through committee activities is reported.

  • Corrosion of reinforced concrete structures in marine environment is one of the most important mechanism of deterioration. However, conventional rehabilitation techniques in tidal zone, which consist of removing delaminated areas of concrete, cleaning affected steel and patching with portland cements mortar, have proven to be ineffective for marine structures. Also, repairs are often repeated every several years. The purpose of this report is to announce appropriate repair method of highway bridge damaged by chloride attack in marine environment (application of cathodic protection) using FRP and antiwashout underwater mortar.

  • Objectives: This case report presents a 29-years-old male patient. His chief complaint was insomnia, anxiety and chest discomfort. We diagnosed him with sleep disorder. During the therapeutic period, he experienced temporary improvement. Methods: We treated him with emotional freedom techniques(EFT), giungoren-therapy. Also, acupuncture and chuna therapy were accessorily practiced. The effects of treatment were measured by Beck depression inventory(BDI), state-trait anxiety inventory(STAI), insomnia severity index(ISI). Results: After treatment, the chief complaint have been subsided and improved. But, BDI, STAI, ISI score were not remarkably decreased. Conclusions: This result suggests that EFT and giungoren-therapy might be effective for sleep disorder patient with anxiety.

  • There are many kinds of techniques for imaging temporomandibular joints. None of them for imaging "best fit" for every patient of temporomandibular disorder is recommended ideally. It is more important to be able to select the modality that is most adequate and appropriate for a given clinical issue.

  • Recently new rehabilitation techniques have been proposed with advanced composite materials like carbon fiber, aramid, glass fiber sheet and so forth. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the mechanical characteristics of reinforced concrete columns confined with carbon fiber sheet and evaluate the degree of their strengthening effect. For the test, the specimen size of column is 15cm$\times$15cm$\times$90cm reinforced with 4 number of main bars of 10 mm diameter, tied bars of 6 mm diameter and slenderness ratio 20. Columns were wrapped with carbon fiber sheet along the column length. It is necessary to make some assumption regarding the confinement of carbon fiber sheet to apply to reinforced concrete columns under concentric loads. The strength gain effect of columns confined with carbon fiber sheet could be predicted using the proposed equation.
