The failure rate of bidirectional dc-to-dc converter is predicted through the failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) and the fault-tree analysis (FTA) considering the operational risk. In order to increase the driving voltage of the electric vehicle efficiently, the bidirectional converter is attached to the front of the inverter. It has a boost mode for discharging battery power to the dc-link capacitor and a buck mode for charging the regenerative power to the battery. Based on the results of the FMEA considering the operating characteristics of the bidirectional converter, the fault-tree is designed considering the risk of the converter. After setting the design parameters for the MCU for the electric vehicle, we analyze the failure rate of the capacitor due to the output voltage ripple and the inductor component failure rate due to the inductor current ripple. In addition, we obtain the failure rate of major parts according to operating temperature using MIL-HDBK-217F. Finally, the failure rate and the mean time between failures (MTBF) of the converter are predicted by reflecting the part failure rate to the basic event of the fault-tree.

The paper introduces a switched reluctance motor drive system based on an 80C31 and an Intel 80C 196KB single-chip microprocessor control. Advance schemes are used in turn-on and turn-off angles with the power converter's main switches during traction and regenerative braking. The principles of traction speed control and braking torque control are given. The hardware and software patterns in the 80c31 and the Intel 80C196KB single-chip microprocessor control system are also presented.
DC/DC switching power converters produce DC output voltages from different DC input sources. The converters can be used in regenerative braking of DC motors to return energy back in the supply, resulting in energy savings for the systems containing frequent stops. The current mode DC/DC converter is composed of a PWM (pulse width modulation) controller, a MOSFET, and inductor, etc. Pulse width modulation is applied to control and regulate the total output voltage. It is shown that the variation of threshold voltage at MOSFET and the offset voltage increase caused by radiation effects make the PWM pulse unstable. In the PWM operation, the missing pulses, the changes in pulse width, and a change in the period of the output waveform are studied by simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE) and experiments.
In this paper a power conditioning system suitable for the fuel cell powered off-road vehicle is proposed. The proposed system employs a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell stack combined with boost converter, a super capacitor module combined with hi-directional buck-boost converter, a 4-quadrant DC chopper and a permanent magnet DC motor. The momentary overload condition occurring during the motor starting is handled by the energy stored in the supercapacitor module. Also, the regenerative energy can be stored in the supercapacitor module by operating the system in either buck or boost mode. This capability gives the system designer the higher flexibility in designing the system and assures the lower cost of the system. The validity and feasibility of the proposed system is proven by the computer simulation.

Research on fuel cell systems attracting attention as an environmentally friendly energy source has been actively conducted. And research is being conducted on railway vehicles that use direct current power generated by a fuel cell as an energy source. In this paper, a two-phase interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter has been proposed which can supply electric energy of a battery to a traction motor during powering and charge the battery with regenerative energy during braking. Therefore, the topology of the energy storage system applied to the railway vehicle was analyzed, and the simulation was performed by constructing the power conversion system by this topology. Experiments were also conducted through hardware design and fabrication based on the simulation analysis results, and the validity of the hardware implementation was verified.

In order to implement high-speed data acquistion system in CMOS VLSI technology, means must be found to overcome the relatively low transconductance and large device mismatch characteristic of MOS device. Because of these device limitations, circuit design approaches tradition-ally used in high-speed bipolar analog-to-digital converter(ADC) are suited to CMOS implementation. Also the design of VLSI CMOS comparator wherein voltage comparision is accomplished by means of a pipelined cascade RSA (Regenerative Sense Amplifier). So, in this paper we designed the A/D converter incorporates the pipelined CMOS comparator.

In this paper, the control algorithm of DC source device for inverter starting is proposed and the control method for compensating unbalance system source on operating time in the voltage type PWM converter with driving and regenerative faculty is suggested. The maintaining method of balancing condition for converter of AC source is used the compensating unbalanced status by current control loop. In order to solve the problem which the unbalanced system control is used to leakage transformer not equaled reactance by each phase in rectifier system. The proposed H/W and control algorithm of rectifier system is contributed to minimize of device and rising efficiency.

In this paper, an operation algorithm and a performance simulator are developed for a 42-volt ISG vehiclewhich consists of 5 kW ISG, 2500cc IC engine, torque converter and 4 speed automatic transmission. Modularapproach using MATLAB Simulink is used to construct a dynamic model of the vehicle powertrain which is obtainedfrom each component such as engine, battery, ISG, torque converter, etc.. An operation strategy for a 42-volt ISG vehicle including the function such as engine idle stop and regenerative braking is proposed. Performance simulator is developed based on the dynamic models of the powertrain. It is found from the simulation results that fuel economy can be improved as much as 6 percent for FTP75 driving cycle mostly owing to the engine idle stop.

when electric traction system used DC 1500V runs on decline of rail road track and slows down, Dc voltage goes beyond regular voltage. In this case extra power is forcibly wasted by resister because rectifier of substation and electric train including power converter and so on are out of order. This paper described a DC electric railway system, which can generate the excessive DC power form DC bus line to AC source in substation for traction system. The proposed regeneration inverter system for DC traction can be used as both an inverter and an active power filter(APF). As a regeneration inverter mode, it can recycle regenerative energy caused by decelerating tractions and as an active power filter mode, it can compensate for harmonic distortion produced by the rectifier substation. In addition, electric traction system products harmonic current and voltage distortion and reactive power because power converter is used so regeneration inverter normally runs such as active power filter(APF) for improving power quality. From the viewpoint of both power capacity and switching losses, the system is designed on the basis of three phase PWM inverters and composed of parallel inverters, output transformers, and an LCL filter.
