  • The purpose of the present study is to confirm, through quantitative indices, changes arising with the implementation of urban regeneration projects, with a specific focus on the case of Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, one of the 13 priority rgions in urban regeneration. By utilizing quantitative data including resident population, floating population, revenue, number of small business persons, number of startup companies, and number of licensed buildings, the study confirmed changes in Dongnam-gu and other urban regeneration areas. The study compared monitoring results and implemented project policies to confirm changes within the area as a result of project implementation. Additionally, resident perception toward business districts was surveyed to confirm changes in perception and opinion, and monitoring indices were used to confirm changes as a result of project implementation. Accordingly, the study presented a plan to carry out the assessment of urban regeneration projects, which can be employed as data for conducting future urban regeneration projects. Urban regeneration projects are carried out for the long-term. Therefore, based on monitoring and investigative data, they require constant policy suggestions and periodic monitoring in accordance with changes resulting from project implementation. With regards to the effective range of urban regeneration projects, the study confirmed the possibility of an effect not only in the area of project implementation but also in surrounding areas. However, because the study merely confirms changes in Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, additional research is necessary to ascertain assessment plans suitable to the different types and regional characteristics of urban regeneration projects.

  • Purpose: Various crosslinking methods have been introduced to increase the longevity of collagen membranes. The aim of this study was to compare and evaluate the degradation and bone regeneration patterns of 3 collagen membranes. Methods: Four 8-mm-diameter circular bone defects were created in the calvaria of 10 rabbits. In each rabbit, each defect was randomly allocated to 1) the sham control group, 2) the non-crosslinked collagen sponge (NS) group, 3) the chemically crosslinked collagen membrane (CCM) group, or 4) the biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP)-supplemented ultraviolet (UV)-crosslinked collagen membrane (UVM) group. Each defect was covered with the allocated membrane without any graft material. Rabbits were sacrificed at either 2 or 8 weeks post-surgery, and radiographic and histologic analyses were done. Results: New bone formed underneath the membrane in defects in the CCM and UVM groups, with a distinctive new bone formation pattern, while new bone formed from the base of the defect in the NS and control groups. The CCM maintained its shape until 8 weeks, while the UVM and NS were fully degraded at 8 weeks; simultaneously, sustained inflammatory infiltration was found in the margin of the CCM, while it was absent in the UVM. In conclusion, the CCM showed longer longevity than the UVM, but was accompanied by higher levels of inflammation. Conclusions: Both the CCM and UVM showed distinctive patterns of enhancement in new bone formation in the early phase. UV crosslinking can be a biocompatible alternative to chemical crosslinking.

  • The way to check whether the urban regeneration project is going in the right direction is fundamental for understanding the satisfaction of local residents relevant to the project. This study aims to analyze the satisfaction of residents by selecting factors that affect the satisfaction of Namhae-gun residents with urban regeneration projects. Through this, after examining whether the project is being implemented well in accordance with the purpose of the urban regeneration new deal project, this study presents the direction of the Namhae-gun urban regeneration new deal project. In result, in the case of the resident group, satisfaction with security and landscape influenced satisfaction with the entire project. In addition, publicity for urban regeneration projects had the greatest impact on satisfaction, and other neighborhood reliability, urban regeneration-related education, and meetings had the greatest impact on satisfaction with the project. In the case of the merchant group, it was found that the satisfaction with the entire project increased when the satisfaction with the public relations. However, it was found that physical factors, that is, factors for improving the living environment, did not affect satisfaction with urban regeneration projects. The findings of this study, as local parts of Namhae-gun urban regeneration project progresses, can be further expanded to the holistic county level.

  • An efficient genetic transformation protocol is a fundamental requirement for high regeneration capacity from cultivated durum wheat (Triticum durum) varieties. In this study, wereportedtheeffectsoftwoauxins,2,4-dichlorophenoxyaceticacid(2,4-D)and4-amino-3,5,6-trichloropicoli nicacid(picloram), at a concentration of 2 mg/Laloneandincombination on the embryogenic callus and plantlet regeneration of four durum wheat varieties (Amria, Chaoui, Marouane, and Tomouh) using mature embryos (MEs) and immature embryos (ImEs). Significanteffectsofvariety,culturemedium(theauxinused),andvariety-mediuminteraction were observed on the callus weight and plantlet regeneration of both MR and ImE explants. The medium used for callus induction significantly affected plantlet regeneration (p < 0.001). Comparedto2,4-D, picloram led to a higher plantlet regeneration rate in both ME and ImE explants (19.8% and 40.86%, respectively). Plantlet regeneration also varied significantly depending on the variety and medium used. PicloramledtohighplantletregenerationofbothME and ImE explants in all varieties except Tomouh, which showed high plantlet regeneration of ME explants in 2,4-D. A comparison of ME and ImE responses indicated that ImEs are the best explants for high plantlet regeneration in durum wheat. Ourfindingssuggestthatpicloramisthebestauxin and should be used instead of 2,4-D due to its positive effect on increasing plant regeneration of durum wheat ME and ImE explants.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the bio-durability and bone regeneration capacity of the non-cross-linked collagen membrane in rabbit calvarial defect models. Materials and Methods: Four circular defects with 8 mm diameter were made in each of calvarium of 10 male rabbits. The following groups was randomly assigned to each defect - 1) Control, 2) membrane group containing non-cross-linked collagen membrane only (M), 3) bone graft group (B), 4) bone graft with membrane group (B+M). Animals were sacrificed and samples were harvested at 2 weeks (n=5) and 8 weeks (n=5). Histologic sections were prepared and histomorphometric analysis was performed. Result: Histologic results showed well adaptation of the non-cross-linked membrane on each defect and normal healing response at 2 weeks. At 8 weeks, the membranes were partially biodegraded. Histomorphometrically, B and B+M group showed the significantly greater total augmented area (B+M group, 10.44±1.49, P=0.016; B group, 9.13±0.53, P=0.032) and new bone formation (B+M group, 2.89±0.93, P=0.008; B group, 2.85±1.15, P=0.008) compared to control group. Collapsing of the central portion of the membrane, membrane group showed greater value in new bone formation at 8 weeks (1.78±0.68, P=0.032). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the non-cross-linked collagen membrane fabricated using the improved decellularized method was shown to be effective for the regeneration of calvarial bone defects. In addition, prolonged barrier function might be provided using this collagen membrane.
