In this paper, an investigation of a room temperature active magnetic regenerative refrigerator is carried out. Experimental apparatus includes two active magnetic regenerators containing 186 g of Gd spheres. Four E-type thermocouples are installed inside the Active magnetic regenerator(AMR) to observe the instantaneous temperature variation of AMR. Both warm and cold heat exchangers are designed for large temperature span. The cold heat exchanger, which separates the two AMRs, employs a copper tube with length of 80 mm and diameter of 6.35 mm. In order to minimize dead volume between the warm heat exchanger and AMRs, the warm heat exchangers are located close to the AMRs. The deionized water is used as a heat transfer fluid, and maximum 1.4 T magnetic field is supplied by Halbach array of permanent magnets. The AMR plate, which contains the warm and the cold heat exchangers and the AMRs, has reciprocating motion using a linear actuator and each AMR is alternatively magnetized and demagnetized by a Halbach array of permanent magnet. Since the gap of the Halbach array of permanent magnets is 25 mm and two warm heat exchangers have the motion through it, a compact printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) is used as a warm heat exchanger. A maximum no-load temperature span of 26.8 K and a maximum cooling power of 33 W are obtained from the fabricated Active Magnetic Regenerative Refrigerator (AMRR).

Adiabatic demagnetization refrigerator (ADR) for hydrogen re-liquefaction operating between 24 K and 20 K has been designed. $Dy_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}Ni_2$, whose Curie temperature is 24 K, is selected as a magnetic refrigerant. The magnetic refrigerant powder is sintered with oxygen-free high purity copper (OFHC) powder to enhance its effective thermal conductivity as well as to achieve relatively high frequency. A perforated plate heat exchanger (PPHE) operated with forced convection is utilized as a heat switch. The forced convection heat switch is expected to have fast response relative to a conventional gas-gap heat switch. A conduction-cooled high Tc superconducting (HTS) magnet is employed to apply external magnetic field variation on a magnetic refrigerant. $2^{nd}$ generation GdBCO coated conductor HTS tape with Kapton$^{(R)}$ insulation (SUNAM Inc.) will be utilized for the HTS magnet. The magnetization and demagnetization processes are to be achieved by the AC operation of the HTS magnet. The designed magnetic field and target ramp rate of the HTS magnet are over 4 T with 180 A and 0.4 T/s, respectively. AC loss distribution on HTS magnet is theoretically estimated.
AMR (Active Magnetic Regenerative) refrigerators require the large variation of the magnetic field and a HTS magnet can be used. The amount of AC loss is very important considering the overall efficiency of the AMR refrigerator. However, it is very hard to estimate the precise loss of the HTS magnet because the magnetic field distribution around the conductor itself depends on the coil configuration and the neighboring HTS wires interact each other through the distorted magnetic field by the screening current Therefore, the AC loss of HTS magnet should be calculated using the whole configuration of the HTS magnet with superconducting characteristic. This paper describes the AC loss of the HTS magnet by an appropriate FEM approach, which uses the non-linear characteristic of HTS conductor. The analysis model is based on the 2-D FEM model, called as 'magnetic field formulation and edge-element model', for whole coil configuration in cylindrical coordinates. The effects of transport current and stacked conductors on the AC loss are investigated considering the field-dependent critical current. The PDE model of 'Comsol multiphysics' is used for the FEM analysis with properly implemented equations for axisymmetric model.

MHR(Metal Hydride Refrigerator) powered by MGT exhaust gas is investigated to find out the optimum conditions corresponding to MGT operating powers. There are many factors to affect cooling capacity of MHR. In this study, the effect of switching time, flow rate of brine on cooling temperature and capacity is investigated. The present results show (1) hydrogen reaction is saturated with 25 min switching time at 25 kW MGT power, (2) cooling power shows maximum phenomenon with increasing switching time, (3) optimum switching times are 20 minutes for 15kW MGT power and 15 minutes for 20, 25kW MGT power, (4) according to increasing brine flow rate, cooling capacity shows decrease at 15 kW MGT power and changes little at above 20 kW MGT power.

A loud speaker-driven zero-c.o.p. thermoacoustic refrigerator where an automotive catalytic converter is utilized as a stack has been fabricated and investigated experimentally. Without any heat exchangers at both ends of stack(and thus with zero c. o. p.), temperatures on the stack are measured and various heat transfer rates are calculated from the measured temperatures. Temperatures on the stack have been also calculated numerically using a finite difference method. The measured temperatures are in fair agreement with the calculated temperatures for lower frequency than 300Hz, however, the former deviates from the latter considerably for higher frequency. Two types of c. o. p. have been defined as appropriate to the experiment. While the nominal c. o. p. is zero(the condition in which the pumped heat flow rate in the pore exactly cancels the axial heat conduction down the stack), the true c. o. p. is found to be about 0.14 for 300Hz from the experiments.

To analyze the cooling performance in the refrigerator truck according to frost growth, the analytical model of refrigeration system was developed under frost and non-frost condition using EES. The system performance was analyzed with outdoor temperature, storage temperature, outdoor front air velocity and compressor speed in order to investigate the system performance characteristics with operating conditions. Besides, the system performance under frost condition was compared with that under non-frost condition. As a result, the frost thickness was 0.9 mm when the refrigerating capacity of frost condition was decreased by 30%. The maximum of the system COP was shown at compressor speed of 1500 rpm for non-frost and frost condition, simultaneously. The performance under frost condition was more sensitive to the operating condition compared to that under non-frost condition.
This study was conducted to identify risk factors to ensure food safety by evaluating cook supervisors' perceived performance of vegetable safety management at Korean food restaurants in Daegu. Recognition of the potential foodborne illness caused by vegetables was 2.60/5 on average. Inspection items with low scores by respondents during food safety inspection by government agencies were "Wash and sanitize vegetables" and "Keep washed and cut vegetables in the refrigerator". As for storage, perceived performance of "Store vegetable in the refrigerator less than 70% of the refrigerator capacity" scored less than 4 out of 5. About 86% of respondents answered "Water-only washing" for vegetable washing. For perceived performance of vegetable cooking, service, and leftover handling, 11 and three items out of 13 were significantly different depending on the size of restaurants and possession of culinary arts certificates, respectively. Based on results, it is necessary to provide food safety training programs for handling vegetables in order to increase knowledge of cook supervisors. In addition, intensive on-site guidance for safety management of vegetables is needed.

To evaluate the usability of a Kimchi refrigerator, we performed an evaluation test that consisted of an experiment and a post-hoc questionnaire survey. In this study, we focused on the older women who have less physical and cognitive ability than younger women. In physical usability, there was no significant difference between the older and the younger subject group. However, there was some significant statistical difference in the results of cognitive usability test. When the subjects debriefed their operations after finishing the experiment, the all subjects in the older group reported the difficulties in identifying the labels and icons in the control panel and in understanding operation sequences. Also, they couldn't learn and remember the operation procedures well. Based on the analysis of the video protocols, some causes of the problems were found and then several improvement ideas were suggested.

The ice storage system uses water for low temperature latent heat storage. However, a refrigerator capacity is increased and COP is decreased due to supercooling of water in the course of phase change from solid to liquid. This study investigates the cooling characteristics of the TMA-water clathrate compound including TMA (Tri-methyl-amine, $(CH_3)_3N$) of $20{\sim}25wt%$ as a low temperature latent heat storage material. The results showed that the phase change temperature and the specific heat is increased and the supercooling degree is decreased as the weight concentration of TMA increased. Especially, the clathrate compound containing TMA 25 wt% has the average phase change tempera ture of $5.8^{\circ}C$, the supercooling degree of $8.0^{\circ}C$ and the specific heat of 3.499 kJ/kgK in the cooling process. This can lead to reduction of operation time of refrigerator in low temperature latent heat storage system and efficiency improvement of refrigerator COP and overall system. Therefore, energy saving and improvement of utilization efficiency are expected.

The quality of various noises generated in the refrigerator is one of the important factors in deciding quality of the product. The main focus of sound control design has been shifted from reduction of sound level to improvement of sound duality for customer's preference. Up to date the purpose of noise control is the minimization of noise level. However despite of gradual decrease of noise level, occasionally the perceptional quality of noise has not been improved. In this paper, the relation between subjective and objective evaluation of sound quality has established and sound quality index is developed using ANN for evaluation of refrigerator's noise of both the starting noise and the stable running noise of compressor. To verify the usefulness of the index, the results in this paper have been compared with those surveyed by Consumer Union in USA.
