Optical diffraction gratings embedded in BK-7 glasses by tightly focused femtosecond laser

  • Optical embedded diffraction gratings with the bulk modification in BK-7 glass plates excited by tightly focused high-intensity femtosecond (130fs) Ti: sapphire laser (peak wavelength = 790nm) were demonstrated. The structural modifications with diameters ranging from 400nm to $4{\mu}m$ were photo-induced after plasma formation occurred upon irradiation with peak intensities of more than $1{\times}1013W/cm^2$. The graded refractive index profile was fabricated to be a symmetric around from the center of the point at which low-density plasma occurred. The maximum refractive index change was estimated to be $1.5{\times}10^{-2}$. The two optical embedded gratings in BK-7 glass plate were demonstrated with refractive index modification induced by the scanning of low-density plasma formation.

  • Photo-induced gratings m flexible PDMS (polydimethly siloxane) film are directly written by a high-intensity femtosecond (130fs) Ti: Sapphire laser (${\lambda}_p$ = 800nm). The refractive index modifications with $4\;{\mu}m$ diameters were photo-induced after the femtosecond irradiation with peak intensities of more than $1{\times}10^{11}W/cm^2$. The graded refractive index profile was fabricated to be a symmetric around the center of the point at which femtosecond laser by controlling both laser power and focused depth. The change on refractive index in the laser-modified regions was estimated to be approximately $10^{-3}$. The internal flexible symmetric diffraction gratings in PDMS film was successfully fabricated using a femtosecond laser.

  • A detailed theoretical and experimental study of k-na exchange in soda lime silicate glasses by RTP is presented. Concentration profiles i.e. index profiles are given by complementary error function added Gaussian function. The estimated diffusion coefficient is 1.54${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$2/min.

Reflection-type Optical Waveguide Index Profiling Technique

  • We report a new configuration of a reflection-type confocal scanning optical microscope system for measuring the refractive index profile of an optical waveguide. Several improvements on the earlier design are proposed; a light emitting diode (LED) at 650 nm wavelength instead of a laser diode (LD) or He-Ne laser is used as a light source for better index precision, and a simple longitudinal linear scanning and curve fitting techniques are adapted instead of a servo control for maintaining an optical confocal arrangement. We have obtained spatial resolution of 700 nm and an index precision of $2\times10^{-4}$. To verify the system's capability, the refractive index profiles of a conventional multimode fiber and a home-made four-mode fiber were examined with our proposed measurement method.

  • 레이저의 종축방향으로 회절격자층을 형성하는 위쪽 클래딩 층의 가운데 부분의 굴절률을 양 옆부분과 다르게 하여 유효위상천이 효과를 넓은 영역에서 얻는 refractive index midulated (RIM) DFB 레이저를 제안한다.RIM-DFB 레이저는 SHB 효과를 줄이기 위하여 기존에 제안되었던 회절격자의 주기를 변화시켜 넓은 영역에 걸쳐서 유효 위상 천이를 주는 corrugation pitch modualtion (CPM) 방법과 레이저의 종축 방향으로 결합계수를 달리하여 주는 distributed coupling coefficients (DCC) 방법의 효과를 동시에 얻을 수 있는 실현 가능한 구조이다. 급격한 위상천이가 없기 때문에 광자밀도분포가 균일해져 SHB 효과가 줄어 들게 되며 레이저 공진기 가운데 부분의 결합계수가 양 옆 부분의 결합계수보다 커서 분포결합계수의 효과를 주기 때문에λ/4 위상천이 레이저와 CPM-DFB 레이저에 비해 고출력에서 좋은 단일 모드 특성을 보인다. 그리고, 굴절률이 다른 가운데 부분의 길이가 RIM-DFB 레이저의 동작특성에 미치는 영향에 대하여 연구하였다.

구배형 굴절률 반사방지막 연구 (The Study on the Graded Index Antireflection(AR) Coating)

  • 우수한 반사방지막을 얻기 위하여 코팅 층의 구조를 나노입자구조로 만들어 코팅 층에 입사하는 빛을 분산시키거나, 코팅 층의 매질을 다양하게 선택하여 굴절률을 제어하여 반사율을 낮추는 기술이 제안되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 코팅 층의 굴절률 분포를 변화시켜 우수한 반사방지막을 얻는 방법 중 기존논문에서 제시되었던 5차 함수의 굴절률 분포와 제안하는 구배형 굴절률 분포의 반사방지막 특성을 비교하였다. 분석에 사용된 반사방지막 구조는 각각 3, 6, 9층 구조로서 총 두께 180 nm 이고, 입사파의 파장 범위는 300 nm ~ 1100 nm 이다. 각 각 서로 다른 층수에서 반사율을 비교하기 위하여 단층인 경우의 전달매트릭스를 구하고 3, 6, 9층의 구조에서의 반사율을 구하였다. 그 결과 3층의 구조 일 때 제안하는 구배형 굴절률 분포가 약 600 nm ~ 1100 nm 파장 범위에서 5차 함수의 굴절률 분포보다 더 낮은 반사율을 보였다. 향후 이 결과는 가시광선(적색)과 근적외선 영역에 사용되는 광소자 및 광 필터에 응용 가능하리라 판단된다.

초정밀 스테이지의 반복정밀도 분석 및 보정 (Analysis and compensation of Repeatability for Ultra-precision Stage)

  • The refractive index of the laser interferometer is compensated using the simultaneously measured variations of room temperature and humidity in the method. In order to investigate the limit of compensation, the stationary test against two fixed reflectors mounted on the zerodur plate is performed firstly. From the experiment, it is confirmed that the measuring error of the laser interferometer can be improved from 0.12$\mu$m to 0.17$\mu$m by the application of the method. Secondly, for the verification of the compensating effect, it is applied to estimate the positioning accuracy of an ultra precision aerostatic stage. Two times of the refractive index compensation are performed to acquire the positioning error of the stage from the initially measured data, that is, to the initially measured positioning error and to the measured positioning error profile after the NC compensation. Although the positioning error of anaerostatic stage cannot be clarified perfectly, it is known that by the compensation method, the measuring error by the laser interferometer can be improved to within 0.15$\mu$m. Characteristics of Refractive Index Profiles at Different Temperatures in $LiNbO_3$ and $KTiOPO_4$ Waveguide Formed by 350 keV Light Ions

  • Both $LiNbO_3$ and $KTiOPO_4$ samples were implanted with 350 keY $H^+$ and $He^+$ ions at different doses ranging from $1 ${\times}$\times10^{16}$ to of $5 ${\times}$\times10^{16}$ ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Single and multi-energy implantations were performed at room temperature. Mono-mode or a few modes in both $LiNbO_3$ and $KTiOPO_4$ waveguides were observed. The effect of temperature on the refractive index profiles of $LiNbO_3$ and $KTiOPO_4$ waveguids was studied. The temperature covered from room temperature, $200^{\circ}C$, 194.5 K (dry ice) and 77K (liquid nitrogen). Different mechanisms are needed to interpret the observed behavior. A n, increased mono-mode $LiNbO_3$ waveguide was formed by multi-energy keV $He^+$ ions.
