  • In this paper, a multimode feed horn antenna is suggested for a high power microwave(HPM) antenna system. The proposed HPM feed horn antenna which is connected with a mode converter is located between source and reflector antenna. A multimode feed horn antenna which has reduced -25 dB beamwidth is designed and fabricated for miniaturization of reflector antenna because -25 dB beamwidth which is determined by considering spillover of feed horn antenna decides a size of reflector in case of HPM. As a result, feed system which uses the multimode feed horn antenna has high gain about 27 dBi and return loss is less than -22 dB at 10 GHz. The measured -25 dB beamwidths of the radiation pattern at vertical, horizontal-plane equal to $20.24^{\circ},\;28.92^{\circ}$ which is less than about $10^{\circ}$ beamwidth of conventional feed system. Thus the suggested feed hem antenna is suitable to feed horn for miniaturization of HPM antenna system.

  • Among imaging and treatment devices for small animals, positron emission tomography(PET) causes a change in spatial resolution within a field of view. This is a phenomenon caused by using a small gantry and a thin and long scintillation pixel, and detectors that measure the interaction depth are being developed and researched to solve this problem. In this study, a detector that measures the interaction depth was designed using several scintillator blocks and light guides with different reflector patterns. The scintillator block composed of 4 × 4 arrays of 3 mm × 3 mm × 5 mm scintillation pixels formed four layers, and a light guide was inserted in each layer to configure the entire detector. In order to check whether the interaction depth was measured, a gamma ray interaction was generated at the center of all scintillation pixels to acquire data and then reconstructed into a flood image. The reflector patterns of the light guides inserted between the layers were all different, so the positions of the scintillation pixels for each layer were formed in different locations. It is considered that even spatial resolution can be achieved over all regions of the field of view if all positions of the scintillation pixels thus formed are separated and used for image reconstruction.

  • This paper presents a broadband CPS-fed Yagi-Uda antenna. The antenna has a feedline structure much simpler than other Yagi-Uda antennas and it provides more design flexibility in arranging the reflector. To improve the impedance matching, a tapered CPS line is inserted between the thick and thin feedlines. The proposed antenna exhibits the bandwidth of $3.9{\sim}5.9$ GHz (|G| < -10 dB) and the gain of $6.5{\sim}8$ dBi within that bandwidth. At the center frequency of 4.9 GHz, the antenna shows the gain of 7.4 dBi, and HPBW of $98^{\circ}$ along the x-z plane and $73^{\circ}$ along the x-y plane.

  • A full-polarimetric scatterometer(HPS: Hongik Polarimetric Scatterometer) for X-band is designed, fabricated, and verified using the theoretically well-known point-targets in this paper. The X-band full-polarimetric scatterometer consists of an OMT(Orthogonal-Mode Transducer)+horn antenna, the angle control part for the OMT+horn antenna, a transmitter/receiver with a network analyzer and a frequency-conversion circuitry, and a movable support of these parts. We use an inclinometer sensor to control the vertical and horizontal incidence angles. The full polarimetric data can be obtained because of the polarization switches and the OMT. The accuracy of the scatterometer system is verified by measuring the polarimetric RCS(Radar Cross Section) of one of the theoretically well-known point-targets, i.e., a corner reflector.

  • In this paper, we have designed the antenna for Korea SAT-5 Satellite Communication which can use Ka band in the earth station. The antenna structure consist of the the dual-offset gregorian reflector that has high gain and efficiency, the corrugated horn that has symmetric radiation patterns and low side lobe levels, the iris polarizer that make circular polarization and the OrthoMode Transducer that separate transmitting and receiving signals. The designed antenna gain is more than 45.7dBi in Tx-band which use LHCP and 42.0dBi in Rx-band which use RHCP. The co-polarized and cross-polarized radiation pattern comply with ITU-R S.580-6 and S.731-1 that are recommended by International Telecommunication Union in the geostationary satellite. The Axial ratio is less than 1.0dB in Tx-band and 1.5dB in Rx-band that meet MIL-STD-188-164A.

  • This paper proposes an ultra-wideband Log-Periodic Dipole Array(LPDA) antenna for the feeder of a reflector antenna to be used for airborne spinning direction-finding and detecting wideband signals. To obtain the ultra-wideband characteristics over the 20:1 bandwidth from S to Ka band, the radiation elements of the antenna were printed on a substrate and a wedge-typed dielectric supporter with robust structure was inserted between the substrates. Also, the center portion of the supporter was replaced by a styrofoam material to reduce the supporter weight. The 5-dB return loss of the designed LPDA antenna showed ultra-wideband characteristics, which are 37.57:1(1.09~40.95 GHz) in the simulation and 33.85:1(1.31~44.35 GHz) in the measurement. We achieved the required gains of 5.78 dBi in the simulation and 5.76 dBi in the measurement in the operating band. The proposed robust, light-weight, and ultra-wideband LPDA antenna confirmed that it can be applied for airborne applications.

  • In this paper, a broadband rectangular reflector antenna with 16-array elements for WiBro/WiMAX band(2.3${\sim}$3.5 GHz) is designed, and its radiation characteristics are investigated. The designed antenna is composed of the IBBD(Integrated Balun Bow-tie Dipole) elements and has the feed circuit at the rear of the reflector to reduce the unwanted electromagnetic wave from it. To confirm the broadband characteristics of the designed antenna, test antenna is fabricated and its radiation characteristics are measured, compared with calculated results. The measured results show good agreement with the calculated results. As a result of measurements, 1.8GHz of bandwidth(VSWR<1.6) is achieved at $2.06{\sim}3.89GHz$ and the antenna gain over 10.3 dBi. We confirm that the designed antenna can be used as a broadband antenna for WiBro/WiMAX.

  • In this paper, a 2.6 GHz switched parasitic array(SPA) antenna is designed to resolve the device interference in the femtocell. The designed SPA antenna structure consists of a central ${\lambda}/4$ monopole antenna as a radiator and surrounding four parasitic elements operating as a reflector or a director depending on the switching state. In addition, open state monopoles around the parasitic elements are placed to improve the directivity. The designed antenna utilizes RF FETs as switching elements instead of conventional PIN diodes, which enables beam steering with a simple structure consuming low power. To select the proper FET switch, the performance of the SPA antenna depending on the switch characteristics is analyzed. The fabricated antenna has 65 mm radius and 35 mm height, which shows about 15 dB front-back-ratio(FBR) at 2.6 GHz and enables eight-directional beam steering.

  • Herein, an ultrawideband spinning direction finding (DF) antenna was designed and fabricated for airborne applications. The proposed antenna is designed by dividing the low-band (UHF - L band) and high-band (S - Ka band) antennas to cover the ultrawideband frequency range (UHF - Ka band). For the high-band antenna, an LPDA antenna fed offset-parabolic-reflector antenna is applied. In the low-band antenna, two LPDA antenna elements are arrayed in front of the reflector of the high-band antenna without increasing to the full antenna size. The low- and high-band gains of the fabricated antenna were measured as 8.76 dBi and 24.55 dBi on average, respectively. The antenna was fabricated with the dimensions of 437 mm in diameter and 358 mm in height. Consequently, we confirmed that the designed antenna is appropriate for the spinning DF antenna in terms of the affordable size for installing on an airplane, as well as the high gain and narrow beamwidth.
