The effects of oxidation stability and flavor acceptability of soybean oil by roasting and refining treatment were investigated in this study. The peroxide values of crude oil from unroasted soybean(COUS) were more increased than those of crude oil from unroasted soybean(CORS) during storage under fluorescence light at $45^{\circ}C$. Induction time by the Rancimat Method was 44.9 and above 88.7 hours on COUS and CORS respectively. The order of oxidation stability of oil was crude>degummed>alkali-refining>deodorized>bleached oil in terms of peroxide value, while that of oxidation stability of oil was crude>degummed>deodorized>alkali-refining>bleached oil in regard to induction time by the Rancimat Method. The correlation coefficients between induction time and two charateristics(absorbance of browning reaction products and phosphorous contents) were highly significant, while that between induction time and tocopherol contents was not high during refining stages. The scores for the sensory evaluation of flavor on sesame oil and CORS was 9.269 and 8.269 respectively, but it was not significant between two oils.
When percentages of the component of raw lacquer were changed by adding each components that is urushiol, polysaccharide and glycoprotein, the physical properties of refined lacquer were changed and the period of refining also were changed. When polysaccharide component extracted from raw lacquer was added in raw lacquer, the period of refining was shortened about 1/3 times and this refined lacquer film was dried faster than the refined lacquer which was not added any other components. When urushiol extracted from raw lacquer was added in raw lacquer, the transparency of dried film was improved. A case of Guizhoushang was improved of the tensile strength of dried film. When both urushiol and polysaccharide were added in raw lacquer, the drying time of refined lacquer was shortened and the tensile strength of them also was improved.
In order to investigate treatment effects of limestone and steel refining slag for paddy soils contaminated with arsenic and heavy metals, a lab-column test was carried out under reducing environments of flooded paddy soils. In conditions of the flooded paddy soils, at the point of time when iron and manganese were reduced and leached rapidly, heavy metals also leached rapidly, and some leachate samples from an untreated soil exceeded regulatory standards. On the contrary, all samples from soils treated with limestone 5% and steel refining slag 5% respectively were below the regulatory standards, showing much lower heavy metal concentrations than in the untreated soil. Arsenic increased continuously during the observation period according to its typical characteristics, and along with decreasing redox potential, arsenic was expected to leach as $H_3AsO_3$-of form $A^{3+}$ with high mobility and strong toxicity. Limestone and steel refining slag showed high treatment effects against heavy metals present in soil and steel refining slag especially showed the high treatment effects against arsenic.

Image co-registration is the process of overlaying two images of the same scene, one of which represents a reference image, while the other is geometrically transformed to the one. In order to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the co-registration approach, the author proposed a pre-qualified area matching algorithm which is composed of feature extraction with canny operator and area matching algorithm with cross correlation coefficient. For refining matching points, outlier detection using studentized residual was used and iteratively removes outliers at the level of three standard deviation. Throughout the pre-qualification and the refining processes, the computation time was significantly improved and the registration accuracy is enhanced. A prototype of the proposed algorithm was implemented and the performance test of 3 Landsat images of Korea showed: (1) average RMSE error of the approach was 0.436 Pixel (2) the average number of matching points was over 38,475 (3) the average processing time was 489 seconds per image with a regular workstation equipped with a 3 GHz Intel Pentium 4 CPU and 1 Gbytes Ram. The proposed approach achieved robustness, full automation, and time efficiency.

Refining is one of the most important processes of fiber treatment that provides optical and physical properties of final paper products. The evaluation method of refining progress is usually freeness (CSF) or wetness (SR) test because of its rapidity and convenience. However, there are some deficiencies in using freeness or wetness test to evaluate pulp fibers accurately because its results are more influenced by fines contents than extent of fibers treatment. The objective of this study is to show the deficiency of wetness in evaluating the refining process. For this, beating is done by varying the beating load. Handsheets are made after beating until 25 and $32^{\circ}C$ SR, and then paper properties are measured. Refined fibers are analyzed by fiber length, fines contents, curl, kink, WRV, and zero-span tensile strength. The results show that longer beating time is required to reach the same wetness at lower beating load. There are differences in the average fiber length, distribution curve of fiber length, fines contents, curl, kink, WRV of long fiber fraction, drainage time, and zero-span tensile strength of rewetted sample at different beating load. At the low beating load in the same wetness, apparent density, breaking length, burst strength, and tear strength are higher, while opacity and air permeability are lower than those of the high beating load. Using Page s equation, which shows the relationship among tensile strength, intrinsic fiber strength, and interfiber bonding strength, interfiber bonding strength is calculated and analyzed to explain final paper properties. At $25^{\circ}C$ SR, interfiber bonding strength is only slightly higher at 2.5kgf beating load, while the intrinsic fiber strength is substantially higher. At $32^{\circ}C$ SR, intrinsic fiber strength is a little bit higher at 2.5kgf beating load, and interfiber bonding strength is remarkably higher than those of 5.6kgf beating load. These results can be used to explain the different properties of the final paper at selected beating loads.
The refining process and solubility of Ti in Al matrix during mechanical alloying (MA) were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) as functions of alloy composition, milling time and ball to powder ratio (BPR). Mechanical alloyed samples were annealed for investigating their stability and the formation behavior of$Al_3Ti$in the temperature range from$200{\circ}C$to$600{\circ}C$. It is observed from present experimental that disappearance of Ti peaks in mechanically alloyed Al-10wt%Ti is not simply attributable to the dissolution of Ti into Al, but associated mainly with extreme refining and/or heavy straining of Ti particles The annealing of the mechanically alloyed Al-Ti powders show differences in aluminide formation behavior when Ti content in Al is equal to or less than l0wt% and higher than l5wt%Ti. When Ti-content in Al is equal to or less than l0wt%, the MA powders transform directly to a global equilibrium state forming $DO_{22}- type\;Al_3$Ti above$400{\circ}C$. In the Al-Ti samples with equal to or higher than l5wt%Ti, transitional phases of cubic$Al_3Ti$and tetragonal $Al_{24}Ti_8$ are formed above$400{\circ}C$. They are stable only below$500{\circ}C$, and, $DO_{22}-type\;Al_3Ti$ becomes dominant aluminide at temperature higher than$ 600{\circ}C$.

To create an environmentally sustainable fuel with a low sulfur concentration, requires alternative sulfur removal methods. During the course of this study, a high surface gamma alumina-supported ZnO nanocatalyst with a ZnO/-Al2O3 ratio of 12% was developed and tested for its ability to improve the activity of the oxidative desulfurization (ODS) process for the desulfurization of kerosene fuel. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) were used to characterize the produced nanocatalyst. In a digital batch baffled reactor (20~80 min), the effectiveness of the synthesized nanocatalyst was tested at different initial concentrations of dibenzothiophene (DBT) of 300~600 ppm, oxidation temperatures (25~70 ℃), and oxidation periods (0.5, 1, and 2 hours). The baffles included in the digital baffled batch reactor resist the swirling of the reaction mixture, thus facilitating mixing. The ODS procedure yielded the maximum DBT conversion (95.5%) at 70 ℃ with an 80-minute reaction time and an initial DBT level of 600 ppm. The most precise values of kinetic variables were subsequently determined using a mathematical modelling procedure for the ODS procedure. The average absolute error of the simulation findings was less than 5%, demonstrating a good degree of agreement with the experimental results acquired from all runs. The optimization of the operating conditions revealed that 99.1% of the DBT can be removed in 140 minutes.

Atomic force microscopy was applied to study the formation and growth mechanism of thin chrome layers prepared under various pulse plating conditions. The chrome was electro-deposited from an electrolyte bath containing 250 gl-l of chromic acid, 25 gl-l of sulfuric acid using direct current density of $1.6{\;}mA.$\textrm{mm}^{-2} and pulse currents with on-off time from 5 to 900 ms. The higher current density enhanced nucleation rate which resulted in refining grain size. The chrome growth kinetics determining nodule size and shape significantly depends on the duration of on-time rather than duration of off-time and on/off time ratio.
Deodorized soybean oils(DSO) were obtained to 2 types. Sample 1 was carried out a general refining process, which was degumming-alkali refining-bleaching-deodorizing. Sample 2 and 3 were not general refining process, its were carried out only both decantation of insoluble impurities and batch type deodorizing(BTD). At this time, BTD was composed of 3 stages, operating differences were vacuum degree, maximum temperature, stripping steam and retention time etc. DSO obtained were appeared original physicochemical characteristics. Sample 1 had acid value 0.034, Lovibond color, 9.1Y/0.9R, peroxide value 0 and thin yellow color's soybean oil. But sample 2 had acid value, 0.078, Lovibond color, 65.0Y/18.39R/4.2B/0.1N, peroxide value, 0.7 and bright green color's soybean oil. Sample 3 had acid value, 0.072, Lovibond color, 37.3Y/3.8R/0.1B/0.1N, peroxide value 1.6 and dark brown color's soybean oil. These colorful DSO were expects as raw-materials of various seasoning oils as like pine needle and/or perilla leaf seasoning oil.

In the previous experiment, it was found that OCC pre-treatment with Hobart mixer at 20-25% consistency for 3 hrs or more followed by the application of the equal refining time, caused the increase of tensile strength, burst strength, compressive strength and tear resistance, compared to the no pre-treated. Four completely different fibers, which were Hw-BKP, Sw-BKP, White ledger, and OCC were selected for this experiment to investigate the effect of mechanical pre-treatment process on different fibers. From the experiment, it was found that the mechanical pre-treatment did not decrease fiber length at all, but decreased freeness, com-pared to the no pre-treated, when the same refining time was applied. WRVs of the pre-treated fibers were higher than the no pre-treated at the same freeness level. It was speculated that the mechanical pre-treatment induced only hydrophilic nature of fibers without damaging fiber length by delaminating fiber walls. The fiber surface area and the physical strength differences of handsheets will be discussed in the next publication.
