In order to refine the grain size of Mg-Zn alloy 0.5 to 6wt.%Cu or Si elements were added. Alloy ingot was made under vacuum atmosphere of 4 ${\times}$ 10$\^$-4/ Torr in the quartz tube coated by BN. Grain size and hardness were measured after solution treatment for 8 hours at 435$^{\circ}C$. Optimal condition for grain size refining effect was obtained at the minimum composition of 2wt.%Cu or 1.5wt.%Si addition to Mg-6wt%Zn alloy. Age hardening behavior was experimented at the optimal compositions of the Mg-6wt.%Zn, Mg-6wt.% Zn-2wt.%Cu and Mg-6wt.% Zn-1.5wt.%Si. The hardness increment due to fine grain size was higher at the Mg-Zn-Cu alloy system, but that due to age hardening was higher at the Mg-Zn-Si alloy system.
The efficiency of the synthetic magnesium silicate used in basic polyols and edible oil purification is evaluated by its purification ability and filtration rate and is affected by the particle size and surface area of magnesium silicate. In this study, it was investigated the change on the particle size of magnesium silicate was influenced by the reaction temperature, injection rate, injection order (Si, Mg) and Mg/Si reaction mole ratio. The synthesized magnesium silicate was compared and analyzed for the synthesis, grinding, and refining processes. In the synthesis process, the reaction temperature and feed rate did not affect the average particle size change of magnesium silicate, while the reaction molar ratio of Mg / Si and the order of injection acted as main factors for the change of average particle size. The average particle size of magnesium silicate increased by 8.7 ㎛ from 54.4 ㎛ to 63.1 ㎛ at Mg injection when Mg molar ratio increased from 0.125 to 0.500, and increased by about 4.8 ㎛ from 47.3 ㎛ to 52.1 ㎛ at Si injection. The average particle size according to the order of injection was 59.1 ㎛ for Mg injection and 48.4 ㎛ for Si injection and the difference was shown 10.7 ㎛, therefore the filtration rate was about 2 times faster under the condition of Mg injection. That is, as the particle size increases, the filtration time is shortened and washing filtration rate can be increased to improve the productivity of magnesium silicate. The cake form of separated magnesium silicate after filtration becomes a solid through drying process and is used as powdery adsorbent through the grinding process. As the physical strength of the dried magnesium silicate increased, the average particle size of the powder increased and it was confirmed that this strength was affected by the reaction molar ratio. As the reaction molar ratio of Mg / Si increased, the physical strength of magnesium silicate decreased and the average particle size after grinding decreased by about 40% compared to the average particle size after synthesis. This reduction of strength resulted in an improvement of the refining ability due to the decrease of the average particle size and the increase of the amount of fine particle after the pulverization, but it resulted in the decrease of the purification filtration rate. While the molar ratio of Mg/Si was increased from 0.125 to 0.5 at Mg injection, the refining ability increased about 1.3 times, but the purification filtration rate decreased about 1.5 times. Therefore, in order to improve the productivity of magnesium silicate, the reaction molar ratio of Mg / Si should be increased, but in order to increase the purification filtration rate of the polyol, the reaction molar ratio should be decreased. In the synthesis parameters of magnesium silicate, the order of injection and the reaction molar ratio of Mg / Si are important factors affecting the changes in average particle size after synthesis and the changes of particle size after grinding due to the changes of compressive strength, therefore the synthetic parameter is an important thing that determines productivity and refining capacity.
Deodorized soybean oils(DSO) were obtained to 2 types. Sample 1 was carried out a general refining process, which was degumming-alkali refining-bleaching-deodorizing. Sample 2 and 3 were not general refining process, its were carried out only both decantation of insoluble impurities and batch type deodorizing(BTD). At this time, BTD was composed of 3 stages, operating differences were vacuum degree, maximum temperature, stripping steam and retention time etc. DSO obtained were appeared original physicochemical characteristics. Sample 1 had acid value 0.034, Lovibond color, 9.1Y/0.9R, peroxide value 0 and thin yellow color's soybean oil. But sample 2 had acid value, 0.078, Lovibond color, 65.0Y/18.39R/4.2B/0.1N, peroxide value, 0.7 and bright green color's soybean oil. Sample 3 had acid value, 0.072, Lovibond color, 37.3Y/3.8R/0.1B/0.1N, peroxide value 1.6 and dark brown color's soybean oil. These colorful DSO were expects as raw-materials of various seasoning oils as like pine needle and/or perilla leaf seasoning oil.

Flesh wasters from tannery create major environmental problems. Despite their considerable fat content, these waster do not find important usage. Their disposal is also troublesome and costly. We have investigated the possible use of this fat as the production of biodiesel(fatty acid methyl esters) by transesterification using with fossil fuels. The fat released the waste by boiling water under the optimal condition (i.e., temperature, $120^{\circ}C;$ decompression, 200mbar) and used to dry without refining for the production of fatty acid methyl esters. Under the optimal condition, the experimental value of biodiesel yield was about 96%. The result of the chemical and GC analysis showed fatty acid composition and characteristics of biodiesel. Evaluation of the product indicated that it was suitable for use as a biodiesel fuel. In result of this experiment oil extract from fleshing process can be transformed into an environmentally affination fuel, to provide economical and ecological profits.

In this presentation, a leaching experiment which is followed the pH changes(pH=4, pH=7) and the mixing rates(1%, 3%, 5%, 7%) was carried out to examine the arsenic reduction effects and the leaching characteristics on arsenic contaminated soil after stabilization treatment in which 5 materials were used as stabilization agencies, i.e. ZVI(zero valent iron), blast furnace slag, steel refining slag, quick lime, and oyster shell meal. Except for blast furnace slag, the arsenic removal rate increased as the mixing rate increases of stabilization agencies. Arsenic leaching concentration was indicated that pH=7 condition is higher than pH=4 condition. This result shows because arsenic immobilization reaction increases as pH decreases, and arsenic adsorption takes place as pH decreases.

Rail clamps are mechanical components installed to fix the container crane to its bottoms from wind blast or slip. Rail clamps should be designed to survive the harsh wind loading condition. In this study, the jaw structure that is one part of wedge-typed rail clamp is optimized, considering strength under the severe wind loading condition. According to the classification of structural optimization, the structural optimization of a jaw belongs to shape optimization. In the conventional structural optimization methods, they have difficulties in defining complex shape design variables and preventing mesh distortions. To overcome the difficulties, the metamodel using kriging interpolation method is introduced, replacing true response by approximate one. This research presents the shape optimization of a jaw using iterative kriging interpolation models and simulated annealing algorithm. The new kriging models are iteratively constructed by refining the former kriging models. This process is continued until the convergence criteria are satisfied. The optimum results obtained by the suggested method are compared with those obtained by the DOE (design of experiments) and VT (variation technology) methods built in ANSYS WORKBENCH.
To investigate the grain refining mechanism of Al by the addition of Ti-B, the unidirectional solidifications of 99.9%Al and 99.7%Al were performed under the condition of varing the pouring temperature. The solidification modes of Al were studied by the cooling curve analyses, metallographic and microprobe examinations. The results were as follows: 1) Grains were most refined with an addition of 0.15wt.%Ti-0.021wt.%B but the grain size with 0.2wt.%Ti-0.028wt.%B was increased. 2) The grain size of 99.7wt.%Al was even more refined than that of 99.9wt.%Al with the same amount of Ti-B. 3) As the pouring temperature increased, the grain size of pure Al and an alloy with 0.lwt.%Ti-0.014wt.%B was increased. However, an alloy with 0.2wt.%Ti-0.028wt.%B did not show any effects of temperature. 4) TiC(Al-Ti) and (Al-Ti-C) were identified as nucleants for Al.

Soda and kraft pulping experiments were carried out in order to investigate the pulping characteristics of bamboo grown in Vietnam. The merit of kraft pulping was not observed for bamboo pulping from the viewpoint of delignification and screened pulp yield. The improvements of delignification during soda and kraft pulping of bamboo were observed by the addition of AQ. The bamboo pulp leaded the bulkier structure than those made from SwBKP and HwBKP. The average fiber length was 1.62mm which is shorter than those of SwBKP, but longer than those of HwBKP. It was found that the physical properties of bamboo pulp sheet could be varied by the pulping method, cooking condition, AQ addition, bleaching and refining etc.
The reconstituted tobacco leaves(RTL) playa major part in the control of the low density and tar cigarette. Reconstituted tobacco manufactured by the papermaking process has much higher filling power than homogenized tobacco manufactured by slurry and rolling process. Fragile reconstituted tobaccos are liable to lead to small particles detrimental for filling power so they must be properly flexible. This work was conducted to determine the effect of CaCO$_3$ addition in paper-making process on the filling power and the flexibility of the reconstituted tobacco and to obtain the fundamental informations for improving the quality of domestic reconstituted tobacco. We analyzed the wood fiber species, the filler level, the fiber length, the fineness level and observed the surface of the RTL. From the obtained results, we could determine that foreign reconstituted tobacco was manufactured by blending softwood with hardwood and over 8% of calcium carbonate at the addition level. The domestic RTL has much higher fine fiber level by 23.2 % than that of foreign, so the refining treatment process and the condition must be reoptimized for the improvement of RTL quality.

The steel slag, a by-product which is produced during the manufacture of steel by refining pig iron, is mainly used as road materials after aging it. It is necessary to age steel slag for long time in air because the reaction with water and free-CaO in steel slag could make the expansion of volume. This problem prevents steel slag from being used as aggregate for concrete. But steel slag used in this study was controled by an air-jet method which rapidly cools substance melted at a high temperature. Rapid cooling prevents from generation of free-CaO in steel slag. In this study, properties of steel slag manufactured by air-jet method and mortar used it were investigated. As results of this study, free-CaO contents were controled under 1%. Mortar used this steel slag demanded to lower water contents, higher compressive strength and lower drying shrinkage than the basic mortar in the same condition.
