  • The Joint Video Experts Team (JVET) has been working on the development of next generation of video coding standard called Versatile Video Coding (VVC). Position Dependent Intra Prediction Combination (PDPC) which is one of the major tools for intra prediction refines the prediction through a linear combination between the reconstructed samples and the predicted samples according to the sample position. In VVC WD6, nScale which is shift value that adjusts the weight is determined by the width and height of the current block. It may cause that PDPC is applied to regions that do not fit the characteristics of the current intra prediction mode. In this paper, we define nScale for each width and height so that the weight can be applied independently to the left and top reference samples, respectively. Experimental results show that, compared to VTM 6.0, the proposed method gives -0.01%, -0.04% and 0.01% Bjotegaard-Delta (BD)-rate performance, for Y, Cb, and Cr components, respectively, in All-Intra (AI) configuration.

  • In this research, a reach posture prediction based on a two-segment trunk model was made. Recently, reach posture prediction models have used inverse kinematics to provide a single posture that a person naturally takes, with a single segment trunk model that had some shortcomings. A two-segment trunk model was first developed with two links; pelvis link and lumbar-thoracic link. The former refers to the link from the hip joint to L5/S1 joint while the latter does the link from L5/S1 to the shoulder joint. Second, a reach prediction model was developed using the two-segment trunk model. As a result, more reliable equations for two-segment trunk motion were obtained, and the lean direction which refers to the movement direction of the trunk was not found to have a significant effect on the two-segment trunk motion. The results also showed that the hip joint is more preferred over L5/S1 to serve as a reference point for trunk models and the reach prediction model being developed predicted the real posture accurately.

  • To provide performance gains by reducing the operand referencing latency and data cache bandwidth requirements, we present an operand reference prediction cache (ORPC) which predicts operand value and address translation during the instruction fetch stage. The prediction is verified in the early stage, and thus it minimizes the performance penalty caused by the misprediction. Through the trace-driven simulation of six benchmark programs, the performance improvement by proposed three aRPC stmctures (OfiPC1, OfiPC2. ORPC3)is analysed and validated.

  • As the number of systems increases and the network size increases, automated attack prediction systems are urgently needed to respond to cyber attacks. In this study, we developed four types of information gathering sensors for collecting asset and vulnerability information, and developed technology to automatically generate attack graphs and predict attack targets. To improve performance, the attack graph generation method is divided into the reachability calculation process and the vulnerability assignment process. It always keeps up to date by starting calculations whenever asset and vulnerability information changes. In order to improve the accuracy of the attack target prediction, the degree of asset risk and the degree of asset reference are reflected. We refer to CVSS(Common Vulnerability Scoring System) for asset risk, and Google's PageRank algorithm for asset reference. The results of attack target prediction is displayed on the web screen and CyCOP(Cyber Common Operation Picture) to help both analysts and decision makers.

  • There are insufficient data to consider the effect zone for the marine life of coastal fisheries, because no standard has been defined for the sound level of marine life. In this study, equations for distance attenuation were used to determine the effect zone for oceanic noises. A reference noise level was divided into 4 parts to consider the characteristics of the fishes, and the effect zone of each reference noise level was determined. To increase the reliability of the effect scope, approximately 100 repetitions of blasting work split into several parts by the boring depth, the sound level of the source caused by an increase in weight, and the effect zone were calculated using the prediction equation. According to the prediction, the maximum distance of the effect zone was 4.92 km.

  • Purpose: This paper proposes a density adaptive grid algorithm for the k-NN regression model to reduce the computation time for large datasets without significant prediction accuracy loss. Methods: The proposed method utilizes the concept of the grid with centroid to reduce the number of reference data points so that the required computation time is much reduced. Since the grid generation process in this paper is based on quantiles of original variables, the proposed method can fully reflect the density information of the original reference data set. Results: Using five real-life datasets, the proposed k-NN regression model is compared with the original k-NN regression model. The results show that the proposed density adaptive grid-based k-NN regression model is superior to the original k-NN regression in terms of data reduction ratio and time efficiency ratio, and provides a similar prediction error if the appropriate number of grids is selected. Conclusion: The proposed density adaptive grid algorithm for the k-NN regression model is a simple and effective model which can help avoid a large loss of prediction accuracy with faster execution speed and fewer memory requirements during the testing phase.

  • The paper will give an overview of the mission of GalTeC and then concentrate on two main aspects. The first more detailed aspect, is the analysis of the key performance parameters for the Galileo system services and presenting a technical overview of methods and algorithms used. The second more detailed aspect, is the service volume prediction including service dimensioning using the Prediction tool. In order to monitor and validate the Galileo SIS performance for Open Service (OS) and Safety Of Life services (SOL) regarding the key performance parameters, different analyses in the SIS domain and User domain are considered. In the SIS domain, the validation of Signal-in-Space Accuracy SISA and Signal-in-Space Monitoring Accuracy SISMA is performed. For this purpose first of all an independent OD&TS and Integrity determination and processing software is developed to generate the key reference performance parameters named as SISRE (Signal In Space Reference Errors) and related over-bounding statistical information SISRA (Signal In Space Reference Accuracy) based on raw measurements from independent sites (e.g. IGS), Galileo Ground Sensor Stations (GSS) or an own regional monitoring network. Secondly, the differences of orbits and satellite clock corrections between Galileo broadcast ephemeris and the precise reference ephemeris generated by GalTeC will also be compared to check the SIS accuracy. Thirdly, in the user domain, SIS based navigation solution PVT on reference sites using Galileo broadcast ephemeris and the precise ephemeris generated by GalTeC are also used to check key performance parameters. In order to demonstrate the GalTeC performance and the methods mentioned above, the paper presents an initial test result using GPS raw data and GPS broadcast ephemeris. In the tests, some Galileo typical performance parameters are used for GPS system. For example, the maximum URA for one day for one GPS satellite from GPS broadcast ephemeris is used as substitution of SISA to check GPS ephemeris accuracy. Using GalTeC OD&TS and GPS raw data from IGS reference sites, a 10 cm-level of precise orbit determination can be reached. Based on these precise GPS orbits from GalTeC, monitoring and validation of GPS performance can be achieved with a high confidence level. It can be concluded that one of the GalTeC missions is to provide the capability to assess Galileo and general GNSS performance and prediction methods based on a regional and global monitoring networks. Some capability, of which first results are shown in the paper, will be demonstrated further during the planned Galileo IOV phase, the Full Galileo constellation phase and for the different services particularly the Open Services and the Safety Of Life services based on the Galileo Integrity concept.

  • HEVC can increase the coding efficiency significantly compared with H.264/AVC however it requires much larger computational complexities in both encoder and decoder. In this paper, the decision process of inter-prediction modes in the HEVC reference software has been studied and a fast algorithm to reduce the computational complexity of encoder and decoder is introduced. The proposed scheme introduces a early decision criteria using the outputs of uni-directional predictions to skip the bi-directional prediction estimation. From the experimental results, it was proven that the proposed method can reduce the encoding complexity by 12.0%, 14.6% and 17.2% with 0.6%, 1.0% and 1.5% of coding efficiency penalty, respectively. In addition, the ratio of bi-directional prediction mode was reduced by 6.3%, 11.8% and 16.6% at the same level of coding efficiency penalty, respectively, which should lead to the decoder complexity reduction. Finally, the effects of the proposed scheme are maintained regardless of the use of the early skip decision algorithm which is implemented in the HEVC reference software.

  • Multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. The computational complexity of multi view video coding increases in proportion to the number of cameras. To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, improved prediction structure and motion estimation method is proposed in this paper. The proposed prediction structure exploits an average distance between the current picture and its reference pictures. The proposed prediction structure divides every GOP into several groups to decide the maximum index of hierarchical B layer and the number of pictures of each B layer. And the proposed motion estimation method uses a hierarchical search strategy. This strategy method consists of modified diamond search pattern, progressive diamond search pattern and modified raster search pattern. Experiment results show that the complexity reduction of the proposed prediction structure and motion estimation method over JMVC (Joint Multiview Video Coding) reference model using hierarchical B pictures of Fraunhofer-HHI and TZ search method can be up to 40~70% while maintaining similar video quality and bit rates.
