  • Accurate and low-cost sensor localization is a critical requirement for the deployment of wireless sensor networks in a wide variety of application. Sensor position is used for its data to be meaningful and for energy efficient data routing algorithm especially geographic routing. The previous works for sensor localization utilize global positioning system(GPS) or estimate unknown-location nodes position with help of some small reference nodes which know their position previously. However, the traditional localization techniques are not well suited in the senor network for the cost of sensors is too high. In this paper, we propose the sensor localization method with a mobile robot, which knows its position, moves through the sensing field along pre-scheduled path and gives position information to the unknown-location nodes through wireless channel to estimate their position. We suggest using the sensor position estimation method and an efficient mobility path model. To validate our method, we carried out a computer simulation, and observed that our technique achieved sensor localization more accurately and efficiently than the conventional one.

  • Numerical analysis was conducted to characterize the gas flow field and particle deposition on a horizontal freestanding semiconductor wafer under the laminar flow field at vacuum environment. In order to calculate the properties of gas, the gas was assumed to obey the ideal gas law. The particle transport mechanisms considered were convection, Brownian diffusion and gravitational settling. The averaged particle deposition velocities and their radial distributions fnr the upper surface of the wafer were calculated from the particle concentration equation in an Eulerian frame of reference for system pressures of 1 mbar~1 atm and particle sizes of 2nm~10$^4$ nm(10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$). It was observed that as the system pressure decreases, the boundary layer of gas flow becomes thicker and the deposition velocities are increased over the whole range of particle size. One thing to be noted here is that the deposition velocities are increased in the diffusion dominant particle size range with decreasing system pressure, whereas the thickness of the boundary layer is larger. This contradiction is attributed to the increase of particle mechanical mobility and the consequent increase of Brownian diffusion with decreasing the system pressure. The present numerical results showed good agreement with the results of the approximate model and the available experimental data.

  • In this study, an 1-dimensional positioning method using iterative linear regression for path loss expression is proposed. In the proposed method, received signal strengths (RSS) measured in several locations and distances between the measuring locat ions obtained by dead reckoning are used to derive a linear regression for the path loss from the transmitting beacon. In the proposed method, for the distance between the transmitting beacon and a target measuring location, several tentative values are assumed. For each tentative value, a linear regression is obtained. Among the linear regression expressions, the one closest to the known reference RSS value is selected and used to derive the distance to the target location. Test results show that the proposed method is more accurate than path loss model.

  • This paper suggests the robust localization system in the application of ambient display with multiple ultrasonic range sensors. The ambient display provides the interactive image and video to improve the quality of life, especially for low mobility elders. Due to the limitation of indoor localization, this paper employs linear prediction algorithm to recover the missing information based on AR(Autoregressive) model by using Yule-Walker method. Numerous speculations from prediction error and computation load are considered to decide the optimal length of referred data and order. The results of these analyses demonstrate that the linear prediction algorithm with the 16th order and 50 reference data can improve reliability of the system in average 74.39% up to 97.97% to meet the performance of interactive system.

  • In this study, an improved scheme for distance-based registration (DBR) is proposed and its performance is analyzed. In the DBR, when a mobile station (MS) enters a new cell, it calculates the distance between last registered cell and current cell and registers its location if the distance reaches reference distance D. In this study, two-location DBR (TDBR) is proposed to improve the performance of the DBR. In the TDBR, an MS stores not only last registered location area (LA) but also previously registered LA, and then no registration is needed when the MS crosses two LAs stored already. However, since the TDBR may increase paging cost, trade-off is necessary between decreased registration cost and increased paging cost. In this study, the performances of two schemes are analyzed and compared using 2-dimensional random walk mobility model in hexagonal cell configuration. We show that our mathematical analysis is accurate by comparing with simulation. From the numerical results for various circumstances, it is shown that our proposed TDBR outperforms current DBR in most cases.

  • As the Asian region becomes strategically important in the international construction market, competition among construction firms has been more intense. While existing literature on the Asian construction market have mainly focused on qualitative approaches to market entry strategies and risk assessment, quantitative research to explain the dynamic competitive structure of the market has been rarely conducted. To address this issue, this study analyzes the structure of contract performance in the Asian region based on the data from 3,996 projects awarded to Korean construction firms from 2009 to 2017. In addition, this study applies a mathematical model using both static (market concentration) and dynamic (market mobility and instability) analyses. Consequently, the static analysis indicates that market concentration led by top-four firms tends to be increased, and on the dynamic aspect, the market position of Korean construction firms is recently weakened and fluctuated in most of the Asian regions and the construction sectors. The methodology and result of this paper would be meaningful not only to understand the underlying structure of industry-level performance but also to provide a useful reference for establishing competitive strategies towards the Asian market.

  • This study explored an approach to estimate a flow-density diagram(FD) on a link in highway traffic environment by utilizing probe vehicles' time headway records. To study empirical flow-density diagram(EFD), the probe vehicles with vision sensors were recruited for collecting driving records for nine months and the vision sensor data pre-processing and GIS-based map matching were implemented. Then, we examined the new EFDs to evaluate validity with reference diagrams which is derived from loop detection traffic data. The probability distributions of time headway and distance headway as well as standard deviation of flow and density were utilized in examination. As a result, it turned out that the main factors for estimation errors are the limited number of probe vehicles and bias of flow status. We finally suggest a method to improve the accuracy of EFD model.

  • Location determination of mobile user via RSSI approach has received ample attention from researchers lately. However, it remains a challenging issue due to the complexities of RSSI signal propagation characteristics, which are easily exacerbated by the mobility of user. Hence, a segmentation-based linear spline interpolation method is proposed to cater for the dynamic fluctuation pattern of radio signal in complex environment. This optimization algorithm is proposed in addition to the current radiolocation's (CC2431, Chipcon, Norway) algorithm, which runs on IEEE802.15.4 standard. The enhancement algorithm involves four phases. First phase consists of calibration model in which RSSI values at different static locations are collected and processed to obtain the mean and standard deviation value for the predefined distance. RSSI smoothing algorithm is proposed to minimize the dynamic fluctuation of radio signal received from each reference node when the user is moving. Distances are computed using the segmentation formula obtain in the first phase. In situation where RSSI value falls in more than one segment, the ambiguity of distance is solved by probability approach. The distance probability distribution function(pdf) for each distances are computed and distance with the highest pdf at a particular RSSI is the estimated distance. Finally, with the distances obtained from each reference node, an iterative trilateration algorithm is used for position estimation. Experiment results obtained position the proposed algorithm as a viable alternative for location tracking.
