PDP(plasma display panel) represents the gray levels by the pulse number modulation technique that results in undesirable dynamic false contours on moving images. This paper proposes a LUT(Look-up table) based error diffusion algorithm for reduction of the dynamic false contours. A quantitative measure of the dynamic false contours is defined first. The measure of the dynamic false contours is calculated through simulation of every gray level combination of two consecutive frames. Based on the calculated measures, a modified gray level for a pair of gray levels of two consecutive frames is chosen to reduce the dynamic false contours. The chosen gray levels serve as contents of a gray level conversion LUT. Given a pair of gray levels of two consecutive frames, the gray level of current frame is modified based on the gray level conversion LUT. The new gray level is displayed on PDP. An error diffusion algorithm is, then, applied to compensate for the differences in the gray levels.
The diffusion layer within MEA(membrane electrode assembly) has been evaluated important factor for improvement of cell performance in DMFC. The diffusion layer in MEA structure leads to the reduction of catalyst loss in active catalysts layer as well as prevention of water-flooding in cathode. Cell performance is directly affected by interior properties of diffusion layer materials. Acetylene Black and $RuO_2$ with large pore size and low porosity compared to Vulcan XC-72R gave better performance caused by vigorous methanol diffusion and water removal. And $RuO_2$ as diffusion layer materials showed different behavior in anode and cathode compartment, that is, diffusion layers in anode and cathode side make methanol diffusion and water removal facilitate, respectively.
Experiments and numerical simulations of the incremental upsetting test were carried out to investigate void closure behavior and mechanical characteristic of a 1.5wt%C ultra-high carbon steel. The experimental results showed that the voids become quickly smaller as the reduction ratio increases. The simulation results confirmed this behavior and indicated that the voids were completely closed at a reduction ratio of about 40~45% during incremental upsetting. After the completion of the incremental upsetting tests, the process of diffusion bonding was employed to heal the closed voids in the deformed specimens. To check the appropriate temperature for diffusion bonding, deformed specimens were kept at 800, 900, 1000 and $1100^{\circ}C$ for an hour. In order to investigate the effect of holding time for diffusion bonding at $1100^{\circ}C$, specimens were kept at 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60minutes in the furnace. A distinction between closed and healed voids was clearly established using microstructural observations. In addition, subsequent tensile tests demonstrated that complete healing of a closed void was achieved for diffusion bonding temperatures in the range $900{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$ with a holding time larger than 1 hour.
We studied the degree of variety of indigo for the electrochemical redox reaction in addition of reducing agent and the electrokinetic parameters. The electrokinetic parameters such asthe number of electron and the exchange rate constant were obtained by cyclic voltammetry. With increasing scan rate, the reduction currents of indigo were increased and the reduction potentials were shifted to the negative direction. As the results, the reduction processes of the indigo were proceeding to totally irreversible and diffusion controlled reaction. Also, exchange rate constant ($k^0$) and diffusion coefficient ($D_0$) of indigo were decreased by increasing concentration of reducing agent. We found that the less concentration, the more easily diffused and electron transferred and the product was more stable.
The magnetic Nd-Fe-B powders were prepared by a thermochemical method, consisting of the processes of spray-drying, debinding, milling, H$_2$-reduction, Ca-reduction, and washing. The optimum process conditions were studied by microstructural and thermal analysis. The resultant Nd-Fe-B powder was spherical with the size of 1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Effects of the process parameters of each step on the microstructure of the powders were investigated, and their magnetic properties were evaluated.
Anisotropic diffusion is a selective smoothing technique that promotes smoothing within a region instead of smoothing across boundaries. In anisotropic diffusion, the rate of smoothing is controlled by the local value of the diffusion coefficient chosen to be a function of the local image gradient magnitude. El-Fallah and Gary E. Ford represented the image as a surface and proved that setting the inhomogeneous diffusion coefficient equal to the inverse of the magnitude of the surface normal results in surface evolving speed that is proportional to the mean curvature of the image surface. This model has the advantage of having the mean curvature diffusion (MCD) render invariant magnitude, thereby preserving structure and locality. In this paper, the proposed MCD model efficiently reduces diffusion coefficient at the thin edges using the smoothness of the surface.
This study investigated the effect of process temperature on the alloying process during synthesis of $Sm_2Fe_{17}$ powder from ball-milled samarium oxide ($Sm_2O_3$) powders and a solid reducing agent of calcium hydrides ($CaH_2$) using iron nanopowder (n-Fe powder) by a reduction-diffusion (R-D) process. The $n-Fe-Sm_2O_3-CaH_2$ mixed powders were subjected to heat treatment at $850{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$ in $Ar-H_2$ for 5 h. It was found that the iron nanopowders in the mixed powders are sintered below $850^{\circ}C$ during the R-D process and the $SmH_2$ is synthesized by a reduced Sm that combines with $H_2$ around $850^{\circ}C$. The results showed that $SmH_2$ is able to separate Sm and $H_2$ respectively depending on an increase in process temperature, and the formed $Sm_2Fe_{17}$ phase on the surface of the sintered Fe nanopowder agglomerated at temperatures of $950{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$ in this study. The formation of the $Sm_2Fe_{17}$ layer is mainly due to the diffusion reaction of Sm atoms into the sintered Fe nanopowder, which agglomerates above $950^{\circ}C$. We concluded that nanoscale $Sm_2Fe_{17}$ powder can be synthesized by controlling the diffusion depth using well-dispersed Fe nanopowders.
This paper proposes the multi-level vector error diffusion for smear artifact reduction in the boundary regions. Smear artifact mainly results from a large accumulation of quantization error. Accordingly, to reduce these artifacts, the proposed method excludes the large quantization error in the error diffusion process by comparing the magnitude of the error vector with predetermined first threshold. In addition, if the vector norm of the difference between the error adjusted input vector and the primary co]or that has minimum vector norm for the error adjusted input vector is larger than second threshold, the error is excluded. As a result, the proposed method reduce smear artifact in the boundary region and produces visually pleasing halftone pattern.
Cobalt(Ⅲ) ion gives two step waves with $E_{1/2}$-0.1V(?)(vs.S.C.E.) and $E_{1/2}$-1.37V(vs. S.C.E.) from a base electrolyte consisting of 0.1 M TEA+sodium borate+0.0002% gelatin. The first wave results from the reduction Co(Ⅲ) to Co(Ⅱ). The second wave corresponding to the reduction Co(Ⅱ) to Co(0) and this wave is diffusion controlled. The diffusion current constant of the second wave is 2.7. Under these-conditions, diffusion current of the second wave is proportional to the concentration of Co (Ⅱ) in the range of $10^{-3}{\sim}10^{-4}$ M.
