Factors Controlling Friction Coefficient of WS$_2$ Solid Lubricant (각종 응용환경에서 WS$_2$ 고체윤활제의 마찰 계수)

  • The tribological behaviour of WS$_2$ solid lubricant was investigated using a ball-on-disk type tester. The WS$_2$ powder was spray-coated at room temperature and the effects of specimen configuration, atmosphere, applied load and rotating spccd on the friction coefficient was examined. WS$_2$ coated ball and disk showed the lowest friction coefficient of 0.05 in the nitrogen atmosphere under 0.3 kgf and 100 rpm, whereas relatively high coefficient of 0.1 - 0.15 was observed in air atmosphere. This confirmed that the spray-coated WS$_2$ solid lubricant was effective in reducing the friction coefficient and improving wear life in nitrogen atmosphere.

Effects of the Re-oxidation Temperature and Time on the PTC Properties of Sm-doped BaTiO3 (Sm을 첨가한 BaTiO3계의 재산화 온도 및 시간에 따른 PTC 특성 변화)

  • We investigated the effects of the re-oxidation temperature and time on the positive temperature coefficient (PTC) of resistivity characteristics of Sm-doped $BaTiO_3$ sintered at $1200{\sim}1260^{\circ}C$ for 2 h in a reducing atmosphere (3% $H_2/N_2$), followed by re-oxidization processes in air, in which re-oxidization temperature and time were $600{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$ and $1{\sim}10$h, respectively. The result reveals that Smdoped (Ba,Ca)$TiO_3$ ceramics fired in a reducing atmosphere exhibit low PTC characteristics, whereas the sample re-oxidized at $800^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in air exhibit pronounced PTC characteristics. The room-temperature resistivity and jumping characteristics of resistivity (${\rho}_{max}/{\rho}25^{\circ}C$) decrease with Sm contents. The PTC characteristics with reoxidization time at $800^{\circ}C$ have improved about $2{\sim}3$ orders of magnitude whereas differed according to the sintering temperature. The 0.7 at% Sm-doped (Ba,Ca)$TiO_3$ samples reveal the best PTC characteristics in the present range of formula and processes.

Preparation of Low Density Ceramic Supporter from Coal Fly Ash

  • Low density ceramic supporter was prepared by using fly ash as a starting material for the application to the biological aerated filter (BAF) system, and the effect of additives and sintering atmosphere on the apparent and bulk density of the carrier was examined. Borax, Na$_2$O and glass powders were added to produce liquid phase. The density of the supporter decreased as the amount of borax increased. The bulk density of 0.79 g/㎤ and the apparent density of 1.10 g/㎤ were obtained when the fly ash with 15% of borax was sintered at 116$0^{\circ}C$ for 15 minutes. The density also decreased as the plate glass powders past through 22${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ size were mixed. When the fly ash with 12% of grass powder was sintered at 128$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes, the bulk and apparent density were 0.90g/㎤ and 1.00 g/㎤, respectively. Apparent density of 1.6~1.8g/㎤ was obtained when the fly ash was sintered at 120$0^{\circ}C$ in a weak reducing atmosphere. By maintaining the reducing atmosphere and sintering at a high heating rate, the liquid phase was farmed from the reduced composition of fly ash. This resulted in the formation of closed pores that enabled the low apparent density.

  • The semiconducting BaTiO3 ceramics used in this study were sintered in the reducing atomosphere(hydrogen gas) and neutral atmosphere(nitrogen gas), then were heat-treated in air to vary defect concentrations. In this experiment, the correlations between the composition analysis and electrical characteristics of these samples were investigated. When the BaTiO3 ceramics were sintered in N2 atmosphere, it was observed that the Ba contents near the interface were lower than that of the grain center, and these samples showed superior PTCR effects. From analysis of the resistivities of grains and grain boundaries by CIRM(Complex Impedance Resonance Method), it was confirmed that the PTCR effects were caused by the resistivity of grain boundaries. And from measurement of the capacitance at each temperature, the samples sintered in N2 atmosphere show the increase of room temperature resistance and the decrease of capacitance as a result of the increase of the charge depletion layers. This phenomenon agrees well with the cation deficiencies in the analytical results.

  • $MoO_3$ thin films were deposited on electrode and heater screen-printed alumina substrates in en atmosphere by RF reactive sputtering. The deposition was performed at $300^{\circ}C$ with 350W of a forward power in an $Ar-O_2$ atmosphere. The working pressure was maintained at $3{\times}10^{-2}$mtorr and all deposited films were annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ for 5hours. The surface morphology of films was observed by using a SEM and crystalline phases were analyzed by XRD. The sensing properties were investigated in term of gas concentration under exposure of reducing gases such as $H_2$, $NH_3$ and CO.

  • Organic azides were reduced to organic amines in the presence of tetracarbonylhydridoferrate(O) as a highly selective reducing agent at room temperature under carbon monoxide atmosphere. Particularly, benzoylazide gave ethylphenylcarbamate at room temperature but gave benzamide quantitatively at -40$^{\circ}$ in the presence of tetracarbonylhydridoferrate under carbon monoxide atmosphere.

  • Dielectrics which do not lose their high insulation resistance in reducing atmosphere are necessary for multilayer ceramic capacitors with Ni internal electrode. In this study we investigated the Ca ion site occupancy in A-site excess Ca-doped BaTiO3 by measuring the insulation resistance, lattice constant and Curie temperature. Its Curie temperature, which was lower than that of the pure BaTiO3, was more lowered by sintering in reducing atmosphere. Lattice constnat of c-axis decreased and that of a-axis increased, suggesting substitution of Ca ions for Ti ions. Hence CaTi" acts as an acceptor to maintain high insulation resistance.ance.

Influence of coating and annealing on the luminescence of Ga2O3 nanowires

  • Ga2O3-core/CdO-shell nanowires were synthesized by a two step process comprising thermal evaporation of GaN powders and sputter-deposition of CdO. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses revealed that the cores and the shells of the annealed coaxial nanowires were single crystal of monoclinic Ga2O3 and FCC CdO, respectively. As-synthesized Ga2O3 nanowires showed a broad emission band at approximately 460 nm in the blue region. The blue emission intensity of the Ga2O3 nanowires was slightly decreased by CdO coating, but it was significantly increased by subsequent thermal annealing in a reducing atmosphere. The major emission peak was also shifted from ~500 nm by annealing in a reducing atmosphere, which is attributed to the increases in the Cd interstitial and O vacancy concentrations in the cores.

Luminescence property of Eu2+ in SiO2-Al2O3 glass phosphor

  • Manufacturing process for silicate glass phosphors containing Eu2+ activator and their photoluminescence property have been studied. We adopted powder sintering process instead of traditional glass melting process for making glass phosphor. At first, phosphor powders were synthesized at 1200 ℃ for 2-3 hours under a reducing atmosphere with 10% H2-90% N2 gas mixture. The reduced powders were compacted into discs and then the discs weresintered at 1400 ~ 1500 ℃ for 1 hr under a reducing atmosphere of 5H2-95% N2. The enhancement of PL intensity by Al2O3 addition, XPS binding energy shift of Si 2p and O 1s, sintering shrinkage, and crystallization were characterized.
