Veterinary antibiotics (VAs) has been used to treat animal disease and to increase body weight. However, released VAs in the soil via spreading of compost can transport to plant and affect its growth. Main purpose of this research was i) to monitor VAs concentration in plant and ii) to evaluate inhibition effect of VAs residuals on the plant growth. Red lettuce (Lactuca sativa) was cultivated for 35 days in the pot soil spiked with 3 different concertation (0.05, 0.5, $5.0mg\;kg^{-1}$) of chlortetracycline (CTC) and sulfamethazine (SMZ). After 35 days of cultivation, concentration of CTC and SMZ in the plant was measured. Residual of CTC and SMZ was only quantified at the range of $0.007-0.008mg\;kg^{-1}$ and $0.006-0.017mg\;kg^{-1}$ in the leaf and root respectively when high concentration ($5.0mg\;kg^{-1}$) of antibiotic was spiked in the soil. Leaf length and root mass was statistically reduced when $0.05mg\;kg^{-1}$ of CTC was spiked in the soil while no statistical difference was observed for SMZ treatment. This result might indicated that high $K_{ow}$ and $K_d$ value are the main parameters for inhibiting plant growth. Antibiotics that has a high $K_{ow}$ causing hydrophobicity and easy to bioaccumulate in the lipid cell membrane. Also, antibiotics that has a high $K_d$ properties can be sorbed in the root causing growth inhibition of the plant. Overall, management of VAs should be conducted to minimize adverse effect of VAs in the ecosystem.

QD LED has an ideal light source for growing crops and can also be used to control plant pathogenic microorganisms. The mycelial growth inhibition effect of QD LED light on Rhizoctonia solani, Phytophthora drechsleri, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Sclerotinia minor, Botrytis cinerea, Fusarium oxysporum, Pectobacterium carotovorum, and Xanthomonas campestris were investigated. According to the results, BLUE (450 nm) light, suppressed S. sclerotiorum by 16.7% at 50 cm height from the light source, and 94.1% mycelial growth at 30 cm height. Mycelial growth of Sclerotinia minor was inhibited by 80.4% at 50 cm height and 36.3% at 50 cm height in B. cinerea. S. minor, and B. cinerea was inhibited by 100% mycelial growth at a height of 30 cm from the light source. At 15 cm height, all three pathogens (B. cinerea, S. minor, and S. sclerotiorum) was inhibited by 100%. QD RED (M1) and QD RED (M2) light suppressed mycelial growth of S. minor and B. cinerea by 100% at 30 cm and 15 cm height from the light source. For S. sclerotiorum, QD RED (M1) and QD RED (M2) showed 75.2% and 100% inhibition, respectively. Further experiment was conducted to know the suppression effect of lights after inoculating the fungal pathogens on lettuce crop. According to the results, QD RED (M2) suppressed the S. sclerotiorum by 59.9%. In addition, Blue (450 nm), QD RED (M1), and QD RED (M2) light reduce the infestation by 59.9%. In case of B. cinerea, disease reduction was found 84% by BLUE (450 nm) light. Results suggest that the growth inhibition of mycelium increases by Quantum dot LED light.

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is an important dietary leafy vegetable that is primarily consumed as a fresh or salad material. It has a number of cultural varieties with green and/or red color. Carotenoids and anthocyanins are known to be responsible for these two colors, respectively. In this study, carotenoid and anthocyanin contents were determined to evaluate the stability of these functional pigments during storage at home. Analyses were carried out at the beginning, 3, 6, 9, and 12 days after harvest. In the course of storage at room temperature, total carotenoid levels rapidly decreased, and the decrease was found to be greatest during the first 3 days. Meanwhile, carotenoid level slightly changed within the first 9 days at $4^{\circ}C$ after harvest. This result suggests that carotenoids in green lettuce are more stable when refrigerated than at room temperature. Meanwhile, total anthocyanin content in red lettuce did not significantly decrease during storage at room temperature and $4^{\circ}C$, which indicates that anthocyanins have higher stability during storage compared with carotenoids in green lettuce. Anthocyanin extract exhibited higher antioxidant activity than carotenoid extract based on 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging assay. Antioxidant activity of anthocyanin extract may also be estimated directly by the presence of another potent hydrophilic antioxidant compound, which is ascorbic acid in this extract. In addition, anthocyanin extract showed about a 5-fold higher amount of anthocyanins than carotenoids in the carotenoid extract. The high correlation between carotenoid content with ABTS radical scavenging activity indicates that ABTS assay is more suitable than 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging assay for detecting antioxidant capacity of carotenoid extract from lettuce.

Biological control of important fungal diseases such as Phytophthora blight of red pepper, gary mold rot of vegetables, and powdery mildew of many crops was attempted using an antagonistic bacterium, Bacillus sp. AC-1 in greenhouses and fields. The antagonistic bacterium isolated from the rhizosphere soils of healthy red pepper plant was very effective in the inhibition of mycelial growth of plant pathogenic fungi in vitro including Phytophthora capsici, Rhizoctonia solani, Pyricularia oryzae, Botrytis cinerea, Valsa mali, Fusarium oxysporum, Pythium ultimum, Alternari mali, Helminthosporium oryzae, and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Culture filtrate of antagonistic Bacillus sp. AC-1 applied to pot soils infested with Phytophthora capsici suppressed the disease occurrence better than metalaxyl application did until 37 days after treatment in greenhouse tests. Treatments of the bacterial suspension on red pepper plants also reduced the incidence of Phytophthora blight in greenhouse tests. In farmers' commercial production fields, however, the controlling efficacy of the antagonistic bacteria was variable depending on field locations. Gray mold rot of chinese chives and lettuce caused by Botrytis cinerea was also controlled effectively in field tests by the application of Bacillus sp. AC-1 with control values of 79.7% and 72.8%, respectively. Spraying of the bacterial suspension inhibited development of powdery mildew of many crops such as cucumber, tobacco, melon, and rose effectively in greenhouse and field tests. The control efficacy of the bacterial suspension was almost same as that of Fenarimol used as a chemical standard. Further experiments for developing a commercial product from the antagonistic bacteria and for elucidating antagonistic mechanism against plant pathogenic fungi are in progress.
Overcoming harsh light environment, as well as increased growth of crops even in high-quality production can play an important role when using the LED light system of photosynthetic products will be able to effectively reduce consumption. In this study, low efficiency of farm greenhouses, growing annual reduction in income due to rising operating costs and increase crop growth by inducing the proper planting environment Factory-type raise farmers' income and at the same time will contribute to the increase of Light device using LED Supplemental through photosynthesis, promote and improve product quality, plant growth regulators are considered possible for them to develop more efficient LED devices and LED Optical processing devices of Light leaf lettuce grown using normal fluorescent or incandescent bulbs grown in the results than the growth can see that the speed improvements. Usually shipped from seedling to harvest leaf lettuce from 25 to 30, whereas optical processing device be required red light (wavelength: 645nm) using a leaf of lettuce grown enough to be harvested after seven days increased the rate of growth. In addition, red light (wavelength: 645nm) and blue light (wavelength: 470nm) emitting at the same time, room, and grown for 5 days to harvest the growth rate was fast enough.
This study was conducted to investigate the influences of bicarbonate ($HCO_3^-$) concentrations in irrigation solution on growth of lettuce and change in chemical properties of root media. The blue leaf and red leaf lettuces with two true leaf stages were transplanted into 10 cm diameter plastic pots filled with perlite. The five treatments were made by dissolving $NaHCO_3$ into irrigation solution to reach 30, 70, 110, 150 and $180mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$$HCO_3^-$. The crops were fed with fertilizer solution contained $HCO_3^-$ with various concentrations and controlled to $100mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ in nitrogen concentration. The pH in soil solution of root media 10 weeks after transplant of blue lettuces were 7.04 and 7.10 in the treatments of 30 and $70mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ of $HCO_3^-$, respectively. But those rose gradually after week 3 and finally reached 7.39, 7.48 and 7.56 at week 10 in the treatments of 110, 150 and $180mg{\cdot}L^{-1}\;HCO_3^-$, respectively. The pH in the treatments of 30 and $70mg{\cdot}L^{-1}\;HCO_3^-$ in cultivation of red leaf lettuce were around 6.65 during week 4 to week 8, but this rose abruptly and reached 6.92 and 7.01 at week 10, respectively. Those in the treatments of 110, 150, and $180mg{\cdot}L^{-1}\;HCO_3^-$ rose gradually and finally reached to 7.49, 7.53, and 7.58, respectively. The EC rose gradually after week 2 in all treatments of blue and red leaf lettuces. The change of macro ion concentrations in both blue and red leaf lettuces showed similar trends. The concentrations of $PO_4-P$, $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ increased gradually in all treatments of $HCO_3^-$ during cultivation of blue and red leaf lettuces. As the concentrations of $HCO_3^-$ in irrigation solution were elevated, the concentrations of $PO_4-P$, $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ became higher and that of ${SO_4}^{-2}$ became lower in soil solution of root media. The main reason of concentration changes were that $HCO_3^-$ influenced pH and the pH changes also affect the activities of the ions in soil solution of root media.

This study aimed to investigate the suitable of layer on growth of six baby leaf vegetables using existing facilities and equipment in rice seedling nursery. Three kinds of Lactuca(lettuce 'Jinppallola' and 'Romain white', and indian lettuce), two of Brassica(tatsoi and red tatsoi) and amaranth were used as the materials. After sowing, the rice seedling tray was placed in multi bench system($L120{\times}W60{\times}H195cm$, 10th floor), which were low(1st) layer above 15cm, middle(4th) layer above 115cm and high(7th) layer above 175cm apart from ground. Irrigation was sprayed 2~3 times a day using a automatic irrigation system. The growth characteristics and leaf color were investigated when leaf vegetables were reached the optimum size(within 10cm of plant height). During the culture periods(29th Jun.~31th Jul. 2017), daytime average temperature was $27.4{\sim}28.3^{\circ}C$ regardless of layers but solar irradiance was higher in the high-layer than low and middle-layer of 37% and 22%, respectively. The leaf length, leaf width and number of leaves in middle and high-layer have a tendency to increase but, fresh weight was different according to the layer. When the correlation between accumulation radiation and growth was analyzed, all of growth factor of Amaranth showed a high correlation and other cultivars showed correlation with each growth factors. As a result, It is suitable that amaranth and red tatsoi for high-layer, Indian lettuce and tatsoi for middle and high-layer and 'Romain white' for middle-layer. The growth of red lettuce 'Jinppallola' was good at low layer, but leaf color expression was poor. So the high layer is suitable for 'Jinppallola'.

This study was conducted to compare the quality of baby leaves grown under several temperature conditions and the storage properties of MA storage for romaine lettuce. It was grown for 5 weeks under an artificial light source (200 µmol·m-2·s-1) in a chamber at 21℃, 28℃, and 35℃. The growth and quality of red romaine lettuce that grown in different temperatures were investigated at the end of cultivation, and the oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ethylene concentrations in the 20,000 cc OTR film and perforated film packed with lettuces were measured for 36 and 12 days, respectively. The red romaine lettuce baby leaf was examined for color, chlorophyll, and visual quality at the end of storage. The maximum quantum yield of baby leaf grown in different temperatures at 7days before the harvest was higher at 21℃ and 28℃ growth temperature treatments. On harvest day, the leaf length measured was longest at 28℃, and the leaf width was wider at 21℃ and 28℃, and the number of leaves was similar to 5-6 at all cultivation temperatures. Leaf weight, root weight, and dry weight were found to be higher at 21℃, and tended to decrease as the cultivation temperature increased. The concentration of ethylene in the film of the MA storage treatments was maintained at 1~2 µL·L-1 until the end of storage in all treatments regardless of the cultivation temperature. Oxygen concentration in the MA treatment used 20,000 OTR film was maintained at around 19.5%, and carbon dioxide concentration around 1% that was satisfied the CA conditions. Both Hunter a* and b* values were generally higher in the MA storage treatment at the end of storage day. The chlorophyll content was decreased as the cultivation temperature increased, and was lower in the MA storage treatment than in the perforated film treatment. Visual quality was 3 points or higher in the MA storage treatment at 21℃ growth treatment, and it was maintained marketability. As the above results, the growth of baby leaves of romaine lettuce was the best at 21℃ treatment, and the lower the cultivation temperature, the longer the shelf life. And it was possible to extend the shelf life by 3 times by showing excellent visual quality at the MA storage treatment that satisfies the carbon dioxide concentration of CA condition until the end of storage day.

The antimutagenic effects of green-yellow vegetables toward aflatoxin B$_1$(AFB$_1$) and 4-nitroquinoline-1-ox-ide (4-NQO) using the Ames assay system with Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and TA100 were studied. Forty six to fifty percent of the methanol extracts of the vegetable samples inhibited the mutagenicity induced by AFB$_1$in TA98 and TA100. Perilla leaf, lettuce, broccoli, crown daisy, water dropwort, small water dropwort, red pepper, red pepper leaves, amaranth, spinach and radish root were significantly reduced the mutagenicity of AFB$_1$(p< 0.01). Whereas 25 out of 27 samples (93%) exhibited antimutagenicity toward a direct mutagen of 4-NQO (p< 0.01. 0.05). The samples which showed the strong antimutagenicity (>60%) were cabbage, kale, lettuce, broccoli, mustard leaf, green red pepper, green sweet pepper, spinach, amaranth, soybean sprout and immature pumpkin. The juices from the several samples also showed antimu-tagenic activity toward AFB$_1$. Cabbage, perilla leaf, small water dropwort and spinach reduced TAT100 revertants dose dependently in the range of 50-500$m\ell$/plate, however, cucumber and carrot showed little effect.

Seed priming leading to improved emergences, germination speed and uniformity under unfavorable conditions without loss of longevity are the best level of techniques. We studied the possibility to obtain primed seed with reduced mean germination time (MGT) and uniformity but with simple, fast and effective methods. The experiments were carried out at $15^{\circ}C$ for 16 hours with priming treatment. To compare the effects of each treatment, we used 200mM $CaCl_2$ priming or hydro priming or no imbibition after ultrasonication or red light treatment. The light treatment was performed by irradiating 2000 lux of red light for 15, 30, 60, and 120 minutes. Addition, in order to investigate the effect of the priming solution, treated at 200mM $CaCl_2$ for 8 hours. Ultrasonication treatment was performed for 5, 10, and 20 minutes at exposures of 13.0, 17.3, and 21.6 kHz during priming. For liquid smoke (LS) treatment, seed soaked in 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 5.0% and 10.0% of diluted water and 200mM $CaCl_2$ solution. After each treatment, the seeds were dried to moisture content ranged 5-8% at $25^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The effect of seed treatment was evaluated with germination percentage (GP), MGT, germination index(GI), germination rate(GR), Germination Uniformity(GU) and heath seed percentage(HS). For several factors tested, we found that the desired germination improvement could be obtained by treating the seed with ultrasonication at 17.3 kHz for 5 minutes in water or red light exposure at 2000 lux for 120 min in water that resulted very similar to those used to 200mM $CaCl_2$ priming for 16 hrs. However, LS treatment showed no improvement in all diluted solution. Therefore, the methods applied ultrasonication and red light treatment showed high potential for fast and easy treatment avoiding pollution of salt solution waste.
