  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the strength characteristics of concrete according to the mixing ratio of recycled fine aggregates and to use it as basic data for the use of recycled fine aggregates in concrete. For this purpose, the target design compression strength was set at 27MPa. Considering practical use of recycled aggregate, the mixing ratio of recycled fine aggregate was set at 0, 30, 60, and 100%, and the unconfined concrete and hardened concrete were tested. The LCA method was used to evaluate the environmental impact of recycled fine aggregate concrete, and the effectiveness of recycled fine aggregate in the production of concrete was verified.

  • In this study, it was determined that it was necessary to consider the replacement rate when applying recycled coarse aggregate to concrete, so data on existing research trends and results were collected and the mechanical properties of concrete according to the replacement rate of recycled coarse aggregate were analyzed. In collecting data on recycled coarse aggregate, data without processes such as compressive strength and removal of residual mortar attached to recycled coarse aggregate were collected among the concrete measurement items. In the case of concrete with 50 % and 100 % replacement of recycled coarse aggregate, it was confirmed that the mechanical properties were lower or higher than ordinary concrete by -36.0 ~ 9.9 % and -40.0 ~ 10.4 %, respectively, on average. Accordingly, it is judged that additional water should be mixed in consideration of the absorption rate when mixing, and the replacement rate of recycled coarse aggregate, which has mechanical properties of 80 % or more compared to ordinary concrete, should be less than 50 %.

  • This study examined concrete characteristics depending on the replacement ratio of recycled fine aggregates, which suits the KS F 2573 concrete recycled aggregate standard. As physical properties, slump, air content, changes in the elapse of time and compressive strength were studied in order to provide basic data for activation of recycled fine aggregate recycling. As a result of experimenting recycled fine aggregate concrete, the increase in the replacement ratio of recycled aggregates led to the increase in slump and air content. Also, when the replacement ratio of recycled fine aggregates was 30%, it was judged that there was no problem with constructability. When the replacement ratio was 30%, recycled fine aggregate concrete had a similar tendency to natural aggregate concrete at a compressive strength of 24MPa. When the replacement ratio was 30%, at a target strength of 24MPa, recycled fine aggregate concrete had the same physical characteristics as natural aggregate concrete. This means that a replacement ratio of 30% is appropriate for replacement of recycled fine aggregates. In future, there will be a need to improve the quality of recycled fine aggregates for activating the use of recycled fine aggregates and further research will have to evaluate physical properties of recycled fine aggregate concrete using improved recycled fine aggregates.

  • Due to the depletion of natural aggregate resources, the use of recycled aggregates became an urgent issue. Microcracks generated during production of recycled aggregate and cement paste attached to the surface of aggregate have been the biggest obstacles to promote the use of recycled aggregate. To alleviate such problem, this study attempted the spray and immersion treatment of recycled fine aggregate using mono-ammonium phosphate solution, which is known to be effective for reducing the pH of recycled aggregate. The changes in physical properties before and after treatment were observed, and the compressive strength of mortar specimen was evaluated. According to the experimental results, the absorption capacity of the recycled fine aggregate increased with reduction in pH after mono-ammunium phosphate treatment. Calcium hydroxide and ettringite was removed, and skeletal density of recycled fine aggregate increased due to the formation of hydroxyapatite. Despite the increase in absorption capacity, the compressive strength of the mortar increased and it seems to be associated with the increase in adhesion strength at the interface between cement paste and recycled fine aggregate. When the concentration of ammonium monophosphate aqueous solution was excessive (immersion: 15% and 20%, spraying 20%), the compressive strength of the mortar decreased, which seemed to be related to the increase in the absorption capacity caused by the the excessive dissolution of the hydration products such as portlandite and ettringite.

  • The recycled aggregate produced from the waste concrete have the disadvantages in the quality for the natural aggregate. Therefore, in order to reuse the recycled aggregate widely it is a previous subject to improve the quality of recycled aggregate. We deduced the more effective surface treatment method using the colloidal silica solution for quality improvement of recycled aggregate. This study aimed to verify the influences of the deduced surface treatment method and the reinforcement of steel fiber to the properties of concrete. For this object, we inquired into the results of the strengths and the flexural failure tests for the five kinds of concrete specimens.

  • Due to the tendency of increase in demolished-concrete produced by alteration and deterioration of concrete structures, recycling of those demolished-concrete is necessary to solve the exhaustion of natural aggregate, in order to save resources and protect environment, especially being want of resources in Korea. For this purpose, concrete made with the pozzolanic cement and recycled aggregate was tested for compressive and tensile strength. The pozzolanic cement was a mixture of OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) and pozzolans such as fly ash, other siliceous materials and early rapid hardening cement(ERC). It was found that the compressive strength of the pozzolanic cement was enhanced when 0.75% of ERC was dozed, as compared with OPC mortar. It was also shown that compressive and tensile strength of concrete with recycled aggregate and pozzolanic cement were higher than those of concrete with crushed stones and OPC. It was concluded that the pozzolanic cement influenced on the increase of concrete strengths with recycled aggregate.

  • Bond shear strengths of recycled asphalt concrete were evaluated under different tack coat applications. Regardless of the new and old mixtures, the bond shear strengths at $30^{\circ}C$ were increased by 10-20% than those at 1$0^{\circ}C$. The bond shear strengths of recycled asphalt concrete without tack coat showed very low ones. These are the main reasons for the frequent longitudinal interface crack in the field. The effect of tack coat curing time on bond shear strengths was inferior to the tack coat construction temperature.

  • The use of wasted concrete can settle the environmental pollution and shortage of natural aggregate. However, recycled aggregate includes substantial amount of cement paste, so that these aggregates are more porous, and less resistant to mechanical actions than natural aggregates. Recently, the new manufacturing processes of high quality recycled aggregates were suggested such as heating. In this paper, for the purpose of manufacture of high quality recycled aggregates, the heating processes was considered to the existing process of recycled aggregates. To find the optimum process, the experiment was performed through the statistical design of experiment. The heating temperatures of 4 levels (300, 450, 600 and $750^{\circ}C$) and heating duration time (5, 20, 40, 60minute) were main experimental variables. Through the test results, it was found that the optimum manufacturing condition of coarse recycled aggregate was evaluated to be $600^{\circ}C$ and 40minute.

  • As for a possibility of using high volume of recycled aggregate in concrete mixture, recycled fine one which is known to be worse in quality and hard to control was selected and investigated in terms of performance of mortar as the replacement ratio to natural fine aggregate was changed. As a result of test, it is found that grade of recycled fine aggregate was beyond standard one and fineness modulus of that itself was increased in compare to natural one. In case of making mortar with recycled fine aggregate, disadvantageous results such as less fluidity and air content including the increase of dry shrinkage were shown but strengths of mortar were comparable to the one making with natural aggregate, which means that planned strength of common concrete structure can be achieved by controlling W/C and the amount of chemical admixture, and also that large amount of recycled fine aggregate is applicable to the precast concrete products generally free to the amount of water.
