  • Archives have historical and academic values. That is why the study of preservation conditions and the environment for the effective management of various records progress. However, materials such as paper and adhesives will inevitably cause biological damages. These damages spread into the inner side of archives, which would make it impossible to recover. For example, archival records from Malaysia and Oman are easily exposed to biological damage because of these countries' hot and humid climate. As such, once records are damaged, disinfection operations are customary in these areas. Methyl bromide (MeBr) and ethylene oxide (EtO) were used in the disinfection process as they showed good insecticidal effect. However their antibacterial effect are negligible. As such, the need for an environmental-friendly fumigator was evident. An environmental-friendly fumigator is designed to improve storage stability. Such equipment is expected to contribute to prevention of damages to cultural heritages through its use of vaporization technology, maintenance of a disinfection space (chamber), and self-generation of nitrogen.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends on overseas business archives, compare them with domestic and related prior studies, and present the direction of the development of domestic business archives research. For the research analysis, bibliography from 493 papers was collected using four academic databases: Web of Science, Scopus, LISA (ProQuest), LISS (EBSCOhost). Following data collection, data analysis was conducted and focused on the publication status of related papers, major journals, research forms, and researcher information. In addition, unique words were extracted through the data processing of English abstracts, and the frequency of the key words was identified. Through topic modeling, this study extracted seven topics from the entire literature group, analyzed the publication trends of the papers corresponding to each topic, and examined the topics and representative papers of that topic. The names for these topics were assigned as "access and usability of business records'," "information/evidence value of business records," "importance and operational strategy of business archives," "record management as a business heritage," "management of business records in digital environments," "preservation and disposal of business records," and "historical value of business records." Based on the prior research and analysis results, this study proposed implications for the development and expansion of future research on the domestic business archives.

  • This paper examines urgent issues of establishing the presidential library in relation to the current standing of the Government Archives and Records Service. As government records have been tremendously accumulated every year, the Government Archives and Records Service will be full within three years, which indicates that the constructing of new storage repositories is an emergent issue. In addition, presidential records are one of the most significant and influential public properties for preserving historical value and interpretation at the national level. Some serious concerns relating to the presidential library are raised for consideration. First of all, it is compulsory to preserve presidential records and to construct the presidential library. Second, the presidential library performs a variety of functions including the acquisition, preservation, access, reference, research, education, and display of presidential records as well as exhibits of public activities and administration personally and in public during the president' regime. A new presidential library should function as both of a depository and museum of presidential records through systematic arrangement and display. Thus a new repository of the Government Archives and Records Service should be co-constructed with the presidential library within the same boundary. Third, a newly constructed presidential library should be at least double- or triple- sized more than estimated in order to contain all related holdings. Fourth, to take custody of public records across the legislature, judiciary and administration, the Government Archives and Records Service should be directed by an official at the level of vice-minister and upgraded to an independent office such as "National Archives and Records Administration." Fifth, the presidential library's location and surrounding environments should be selected with careful planning.

  • Objectives: To determine the prevalence and predicting factors of ovarian metastasis, and evaluate the histology of other ovarian neoplasms in women with early-stage cervical cancer. Methods: The medical records of women with cervical cancer stage IA-IIA who underwent primary surgical treatment at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University from January 2007 to December 2011 were used for the study. Demographic, clinical and histopathologic data of the women who underwent salpingo-oophorectomy were reviewed. Results: Of 264 women, the mean age was 52.3 years. The types of hysterectomy procedures were composed of 210 radical hysterectomy, 9 modified radical hysterectomy, 40 simple hysterectomy, and 5 abandoned hysterectomy. The prevalence of ovarian metastasis was 0.76% (2/264). All of ovarian metastatic patients were older than 60 years old, postmenopause, and had macroscopical stage IB1 cervical cancer. Others ovarian tumors were found in 7 patients including 1 synchronous ovarian carcinoma, 1 serous cystadenoma, 1 fibroma, and 4 teratoma. Conclusions: In cases of early-stage cervical carcinoma of the population studied, ovarian preservation could be another option in <60-year-old patients, with non-neuroendocrine cell type, stage IA, and no extracervical or ovarian lesions.

  • This study was undertaken to determine the incidence of subsequent oophorectomy due to ovarian pathology or ovarian cancer in women with prior hysterectomy for benign gynecologic conditions at Chiang Mai University Hospital. Medical records of women who underwent hysterectomy for benign gynecologic diseases and precancerous lesions between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2013 at Chiang Mai University Hospital were retrospectively reviewed. The incidence and indications of oophorectomy following hysterectomy were analyzed. During the study period, 1,035 women had hysterectomy for benign gynecologic conditions. Of these, 590 women underwent hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and 445 hysterectomy with bilateral ovarian preservation or unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. The median age was 47 years (range, 11-75 years). Ten women (2.45 %) had subsequent oophorectomy for benign ovarian cysts. No case of ovarian cancer was found. The mean time interval between hysterectomy and subsequent oophorectomy was 43.1 months (range, 2-97 months) and the mean follow-up time for this patient cohort was 51 months (range, 1.3-124.9 months). According to our hospital-based data, the incidence of subsequent oophorectomy in women with prior hysterectomy for benign gynecologic conditions is low and all represent benign conditions.

  • Purpose: The alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) is widely conducted for implant placement. However, experimental results using deproteinized porcine bone mineral (DPBM) have been scarce. This retrospective study evaluated factors affecting the primary stability of implants in an area where ARP was performed using DPBM. Materials and Methods: Thirty-eight patients were divided into two groups based on the primary stability, with torque value of 30 Ncm as borderline. To determine the factors that affect the primary stability of implants, we collected data from patients' medical records including age, sex, reentry time, socket location, remaining bone wall at the time of extraction, and type of collagen membrane, as well as from radiographs and histomorphometric analysis. Result: The results showed statistically significant difference for the remaining extraction socket wall (P=0.014), residual graft (P=0.029), and fibrovascular tissue (P=0.02) between the two groups. There was an insignificant tendency toward the time of reentry surgery (P=0.052) and location (P=0.077). All implants placed in sites using DPBM functioned well up to 3 years. Conclusion: Within the limitations of the present study, extraction socket wall, residual graft, and fibrovascular tissue can affect the primary stability at the time of implant placement on grafted sites using DPBM and collagen membranes. In addition, reentry time and locations can be considered. In future studies, comparative experiments in quantified models will be required to supporting the findings.

  • This study is an attempt to organize the historical records of the Hanok Church, which played a major role in the history of Korean Protestantism. It was confirmed that research on the theme of Hanok Church was not actively conducted. Through this study, we would like to study the theoretical consideration of the study of Hanok Church and the value of Hanok Church. Based on these results, the purpose was to serve as the basis for theoretical data on the theory of Hanok Church and to actively conduct related research. In addition, by systematizing the cultural values of the Hanok Church, basic information can be provided to establish future cultural values and business utilization plans as modern cultural heritage. Therefore, it is necessary to expand various consultative bodies to preserve Hanok churches around the region and churches and promote various projects to improve the environment for the preservation of Hanok churches. Lastly, I think efforts for long-term preservation and related research of the Hanok Church are continuously needed.

  • Cultural property means the remains of cultural activities of a race as recognized with significant cultural value that would have significant historic and/or artistic value. This type of cultural property would not be restored once damaged that its preservation and succession would be immensely important. In particular, the intangible cultural property is the 'cultural property without certain shape' that appropriate conservation and facilitation suitable to its characteristics have to be materialized. For this purpose, this study has taken a look of the record status for 16 cities and provinces with the designated intangible cultural properties and presented with the efficient record plan for desirable conservation and succession.
