  • All records have attribute of representing the object, so archives should develop digital record exhibition to facilitate attribute that representing the object. If building cultural properties are chose as the represented object, it should be followed by analysis of nature values and record contents and applied to the suitable framework. Therefore, this study suggests the organized process of designing the framework which develops digital representing contents based on records.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the legal definition and usage of cultural property term related to the architecture within the cultural property-related legal system and general legal system, and to present proper terminology and specific concepts that can be used for the architecture as cultural properties. In the current cultural property legislative system, terms about the architecture are diverse and obscure, and the definition of each term is different from the concept in the general legal system. In this context, this study presented the terminology of 'the architectural heritage' as 'a cultural property by construction act' to cover whole cultural properties related to Korean architecture. And the conceptual scope of the architectural heritage is divided into the technology and the performer related to the act, the record and the building related to the product. and Each concept needs to be specifically tailored to its object and scope. Systematic definition of terms for cultural properties related the architecture can positively influence systematization of cultural property preservation and management as well as empirical research and education on Korean architecture.

  • This study suggests institutional and methodological approaches for preservation of South Korea's registered cultural properties of modern architecture. The suggested approaches are as follows. First, in order to improve the current registration and preservation system for cultural properties, we need to employ both structure-based classification and style-based classification. Registration criteria for modern architecture properties need to include more detailed classification in terms of their structure: brick structure, steel concrete structure and post lintel structure. In terms of construction style, the properties need to be further classified into the western style, the traditional style and the Korean-western eclectic style. In addition, protection of registered cultural properties need to be achieved through legislation of a protection system. Second, while the current system sets out six methods for preservation of registered cultural properties of modern architecture, more specific preservation methods types and plans need to be continuously introduced. In particular, as for the method of partial preservation, the method needs to be further classified based on the usage of the relevant structure so as to allow for more diverse options. First, the 'Preservation by Interior Alteration' needs to be added to the category, where the exterior is preserved as it is and the interior is preserved through alteration. Also needs to be added the preservation method where the interior space is preserved as it is and the exterior space is altered, in case the finishing materials of the exterior has deteriorated. Third, if the records on registered cultural properties of modern architecture are to provide the functions of legal evidences regarding management of architectural cultural properties, sources of knowledge required for policy making and implementation and past management record for the future, each phase needs to be closely connected in an organic manner, and we need to establish a management system and plan that go beyond the relevant organizations. Fourth, in order to preserve South Korea's registered cultural properties of modern architecture in its original state, it is imperative to prepare separate criteria for registration of technicians with expertise on modern architecture, and train experts and technicians on modern architecture, which is distinguished from the traditional architecture.

  • Cultural heritages represent the histories and intellectual level of a country. The Annals of Joseon Dynasty are regarded as the most valuable resources containing the record of Korean history. In some periods, wax-treated paper was used as the material of the Annals of Joseon Dynasty. Many previous studies have focused on the development of paper used as the material of the Annals of Joseon Dynasty, but the manufacture method of wax-treated volumes and the degradation mechanism of wax have been not fully understood yet. The purposes of the present study are to produce various kinds of wax-treated paper using by different coating methods and to analyse the morphological properties of wax-treated paper. The analysis of SEM demonstrates that beeswax treated paper made by brushing method produces flatter surface and more excellent penetration. Wax layer is produced on the cross section of beeswax treated paper as the increase of coating amount.

  • The term "conserved remains" refers to cultural remains that are preserved in accordance with the valuation of buried cultural properties when important remains are recognized in rescue excavations during construction work. South Korea's rapid economic growth and ensuing land development over the past few decades compelled a sharp increase in the number of rescue excavation cases, and, naturally, of conserved remains. Today, an increasingly large number of conserved remains have raised issues, including those concerning land expropriation as well as the management and utilization of such remains, but no clear solutions have been proposed. This study attempts to propose plans for improvement based mainly on the recognition of institutional issues rather than technical issues related to the conservation of cultural remains. This is because the identification and review of institutional deficiencies must be prioritized in order to efficiently manage conserved remains with limited resources and manpower. Among many possible proposals to demand improvement of conservation policies, one that must first be examined under the current system is the rapid transition, or review thereof, of "conserved remains" to "designated cultural properties." Unlike designated cultural properties, conserved remains are merely a temporary means of conservation, because they lack regulations for follow-ups subsequent to preliminary measures. Naturally, deferring the definition of relics as "conserved remains" for extended periods causes numerous problems. Measures to resolve such problems may include establishing a legal system to manage conserved remains at a level similar to designated cultural properties or seeking ways to improve management under the current system. This study focuses on areas where institutional improvement for conserved remains is possible by methods other than through the rapid transition to designated cultural properties and presents several proposals. Currently, conservation measures are divided into three categories: on-site conservation, relocation conservation, and record conservation. This study reclassifies these categories from three into four categories. On-site conservation includes only two categories: conserved remains and the newly-proposed soil-covered remains. Two remaining categories, the relocation conservation remains and the record conservation remains, are presented as classifications in which development projects are possible, and they are presented as alternative conservation types that contrast with on-site conservation. Unlike conserved remains, soil-covered conservation presented as a new category in which development projects are possible.

  • We proposed that the replicas be made as an alternative to achieve such reciprocal goals as the safe preservation of traditional costume relics and socio-educational realizations through exhibitions, etc., A replication was categorized for its purpose into a restoral replication: a work based on the historical research of color and shapes as they were originally made and a current state replication : a production based on a minute record of the relics as they are excavated. Then, we reported the reproduction process from the excavation to the exhibition on the excavated traditional costumes of Milchanggun's Jobok. The purpose of a replication of relics is to record the relics experiencing the change resulted from the inevitable degeneration over time as organic cultural assets together with the substitution exhibition of relics and academic researches and so on.

  • In Seoul city, The maul-gut(마을굿) called bugundang-gut(부군당굿) have been transmitted by people lived on the banks of han-river. The purpose of this document is to make a study the present meaning of bugundang-gut that have been transmitted in metropolitan city. The bugundang-gut was the official ritual in a government office during the Chosun dynasty. However, the bugundang-gut had been spread along kyunggang(경강, Han-river in Seoul) in the late Chosun period. At that times, the population kyunggang area was increased with the inflow of outside population and the commercial destrict was extended to many district along kyunggang. The main points of this study are as follows. Firstly, I investigate that bugundang-gut have been transmitted by a Seoulite to the backbone. They are the main body of bugundang-gut transmitting from generation to generation. Secondly, I study about nami-janggun-sadangje(남이장군사당제) appointed to seoul city immaterial cutural properties. It is a kind of bugundang-gut. So namijanggun-sadangje was appointed to seoul city immaterial cutural properties, as it was supported by a local autonomous entity. Thirdly, I investigate a plan that can be handed down an offspring in seoul city. We must revise the cultural properties system like that of Japan. Even though many bugundang-gut isn't appointed to cutural propertie except nami-janggun-sadangje, we must recognize their importance and keep a record character of bugundang-gut by investigation in detail. Fourthly, I think that bugundang-gut must be developed a regional public holiday. If it is developed a regional public holiday, many young person can be take part in bugundang-gut.
