Review about Child Rearing Attitude of Parents (부모의 양육태도에 대한 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study was to review the concept, type and factors that affect child rearing attitude of parents and suggest desirable child rearing attitude of parents. Child rearing attitude of parents not only decide the quality of parent-child relationship but also affect child intellectual, emotional, social development and character. Many theorists suggest the type of child rearing attitude of parents, Schaefer's theory is commonly accepted. This model divided into 4 types, affectional-automatic attitude, affectional-controling attitude, rejecting-automatic attitude, rejecting-controling attitude. Through this study, confirmed factors that affect child rearing attitude of parents were family social position, parent's age and educational level, child gender. And other factors were mother has a job or not, marriage satisfaction, number of child and etc. Desirable parent's child rearing attitude were parent's consistency, understanding and acceptance of parents, parent's ideal behavior, democratic attitude of parents, parent's love for their children.

The Effects of a Father's Occupational Stress and Rearing Attitude on Rearing Participation (아버지의 직무스트레스와 양육태도가 양육참여도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the effects of father's occupational stress and rearing attitude on rearing participation. Methods: The participants of this study were 201 fathers who are raising children in J region. The data were collected by self-report using questionnaires from August to September, 2015. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient, Scheffe test, and stepwise multiple linear regression with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The total mean scores of occupational stress on the subjects were 40.98(${\pm}8.36$), rearing attitude were $68.54({\pm}7.18$), rearing participation were $73.16({\pm}11.34$). The study showed that occupational stress is negatively correlated with rearing participation and rearing attitude positively correlated with rearing participation. Working style and rearing attitude were identified of rearing participation. Conclusion: A father's rearing participation level was influenced by father's attitude of caring children above all. In addition, fathers' working styles were also a main factor. Therefore, it is necessary for fathers to learn rearing attitudes in a way that can develop a nursing intervention program to increase their rearing participation level.

  • Purpose: This study was carried out to provide the theoretical understanding of mothers' child-rearing attitude and the eventual purpose was to contribute to the development of nursing interventions to help mothers have love-automous childrearing attitudes which will foster child development and enhance harmonious child-mother relationship. Method: The data were collected from April to september, 2002 by questionnaires with 130 married child-rearing mothers. Mothers' child-rearing attitudes were rated on the 5-point sclae of Schaefer's Maternal Behavior Research Instrument(MBRI). Result: 1) In love vs hostility and autonomy vs control, the score of love(3.79) is higher than hostility(2.64) and the score of autonomy(3.54) is higher than control(2.58). 2) In love- autonomous child-rearing attitude(3.69) is highest than hostility-control(2.75), love-control(2.70), hostility-autonomous (2.54) child-rearing attitude and the direction is autonomy→love. Conclusion: Nurses assess mothers' child-rearing attitude and provide teaching and counselling to help mothers to form love-autonomous child-rearing attitude.

The Effects of Young Children Mother's Gratitude, Child-rearing Attitude on Family Resilience (유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 감사성향, 양육태도가 가족탄력성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of family resilience, gratitude, and child-rearing attitude and to identify predicting factors of family resilience among mothers of young children. A correlative research design was be used for this study with self-administered questionnaires. The subjects were 248 mothers of young children from kindergarten located in Jeonnam and Gwangju provinces in Korea. Data were collected between May to June, 2013. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regressions with PASW Statistics 18 (SPSS 18.0) program were used for data analysis. The major findings are summarized as follows: (1) Family resilience was closely related to gratitude and four types of child-rearing attitudes. Gratitude was closely related to four types of child-rearing attitudes. And rejective attitude had significantly negative relations family resilience and gratitude. (2) The significant factors affecting family resilience were mother's education level, gratitude, affective attitude, rejective attitude, autonomous attitude and controlling attitude which explained 63% of the variance. The results indicate that gratitude and child-rearing attitude were significant factors associated with family resilience among mothers of young children. In order to increase the family resilience among mothers of young children, family programs that deal with both gratitude and child-rearing attitude should be designed.

A Study on a Correlation among Science-Related Attitude, Overexcitability and Parent's Rearing Attitude Perceived by Elementary School Students (과학관련 태도, 과흥분성 및 초등학생이 지각한 부모의 양육태도 간의 관계에 대한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to clarify a correlation among science-related attitude, overexcitability and parents' rearing attitude perceived by elementary school students. For this purpose, questionnaire surveys were carried out for 276 elementary school students consisted of 5th and 6th grades. The results were as follows. First, science-related attitude, overexcitability, and parents' rearing attitude perceived by elementary school students were meaningfully different on gender. boys'average was higher in science-related attitude than girls'. In the case of overexcitability, boys'average was higher in psychomotor and intellectual overexcitability than girls', while girls'average was higher in emotional and sensual overexcitability than boys'. According to the analysis for parents' rearing attitude perceived by elementary school students, girl students perceived that their parents more firmly controlled them as compared with boy students. Second, according to the results conducting t-test for types of parents' rearing attitude perceived by students, boy students' average was meaningfully higher in the types of love-autonomy than girl students'. There was no difference between the groups of love-autonomy type and hostility-autonomy type. Third, there showed a meaningful correlation between students' science-related attitude and parents' rearing attitude in order of love, hostility, autonomy, and control type. There showed a meaningful correlation between students' science-related attitude and intellectual, sensual, imaginational, psychomotor, and emotional overexcitability in order. Last, according to multiple regression analysis, factors effecting on science-related attitudes were intellectual overexcitability, love among the types of parents' rearing attitude perceived by students im order.

The Comparison of Mother's Perception of the Newborn, Caring-confidence, and Child-rearing Attitude between Primipara and Multipara (초산모와 경산모의 신생아에 대한 지각, 자신감, 양육태도의 차이)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare mother's caring-confidence, between primipara perception of the newborn, and child-rearing attitude and multipara. Method: The data was collected from 159 married mothers of newborns in the post-partum care center using self-rating questionnaires from November, 2003 to March, 2004. Data was analyzed using SPSS/Win program by t-test and Pearson Correlation coefficient. Result: 1) The mean score of mother's perception of the newborn, the newborn caring-confidence, and child-rearing attitude were .26, 3.13, and 3.43. 2) The score of the newborn caring-confidence of multipara was greater significantly than the one of primapara. 3) The score of mother's perception of tile newborn and child-rearing attitude of primapara were greater than the one of multipara but there were no significant differences. 4) There was a positive correlation between mother's perception of the newborn and child-rearing attitude and significant correlation between caring-confidence and child-rearing attitude. 5) The score of mother's perception of the newborn was significantly different according to the level of education type of family and delivery planned. 6) The score of caring-confidence was significantly different according to the helper, the history of delivery. 7) The score of child-rearing attitude was significantly difference according to the level of education and the birth weight of newborn. Conclusion: When the newborn care giver in the postpartum care setting is teaching the method of infant care to mother, there should be in consideration of the rearing experience of mothers. Mother's perception of the newborn, caring-confidence, and child-rearing attitude should be considered to develop the effective education program for mothers who have newborn. And its educational contents must be focused on the promotion of trust between infant and mother.

Childrearing Attitude and Burden of Employed and Unemployed Mothers and Temperament and Health Related Variables of Their Preschool Children (취업모와 미취업모의 양육태도, 양육부담감 및 학령전기 자녀의 기질과 건강관련 변인 비교)

  • Purpose: This comparative descriptive study was conducted to determine the effects of maternal employment on the maternal child-rearing attitude, child-rearing burden, and temperament and health related variables of their preschool children. Method: Samples were recruited in child care centers in Seoul, Daejeon, and Suwon. 209 mothers with children age of three to six participated. Result: Employed mothers showed more positive child-rearing attitude, but there was no significant difference in child-rearing burden, Also, maternal attitude and child-rearing burden were influenced by satisfaction on the employment state. Children's temperament subscales were not different in two groups. Breast feeding and compliance on vaccination were done better by unemployed mothers. However, home safety, experience of accident and hospitalization of children were not affected by maternal employment. Conclusion: Maternal employment has positive influence in some aspects. This study provides basic data for parent counseling and anticipatory guidance for employed mothers.

Influence of Parents' Child Rearing Attitudes on Family Cohesion and Self-esteem in Adolescents (부모의 양육태도가 가족응집성과 청소년의 자존감에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of parents rearing attitude on family cohesion and adolescents' self-esteem. Methods: The participants were 1,299 high school students from Seoul city and Kyunggi Province in Korea. Data were collected using self-report questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, stepwise regression with SPSS 14.0 win program. Results: The major results are as follows. First, parents rearing attitude was significantly influence to the family cohesion. Second, parents rearing attitude and family cohesion were significantly affect to the adolescent self- esteem. Third, compare the influence size between the parents rearing attitude and family cohesion to the adolescent self- esteem, the family cohesion was higher than the parents rearing attitude. Conclusion: The finding may provide useful insight to researchers who want to develop social support program for adolescents.

A Study on the Playfulness, Play Beliefs and Rearing Attitude of Mothers with Young Children (유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 놀이성, 놀이신념과 양육태도에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated the relationships among mothers' playfulness, play beliefs and rearing attitude. The participants were 261 mothers with young children. PSA(Playfulness Scale for Adults), PPBS(Parent Play Beliefs Scale), MBRI(Maternal Behavior Research Instrument) were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by t-test, Pearson's productive correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows: First, mothers' rearing attitude varied by mothers' age, employment status, and educational level. Second, there were significant correlations among mothers' playfulness, play beliefs, and rearing attitude. Third, mothers' playfulness and play beliefs were reliable predictors of rearing attitude.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of educational program on maternal child-rearing attitude. The program consisted of 6 sessions, 3-hours weekly meeting per session with 12 mothers who have participated at parent education program. Before and after the program, tests were carried out with child-rearing attitude scale md qualitative research to analyze personal changes of participants. The results of the study were as follows. First, the pre-test and post-test with the maternal child-rearing attitude scale showed some changed recognition that maternal child-rearing attitude would be more affectionate, autonomous and unrejectable. Second, parent education program had positive effect on the maternal self understanding. Participants reported that various tests used for this program helped them to identify themselves. This program also positively influenced maternal children understanding through searching the developmental task and characteristics of children.
