To evaluate the solar photocatalytic degradation efficiency of chloroform in a real solar-light driven compound parabolic concentrators (CPCs) system, $TiO_2$ was irradiated with a metalhalide lamp (1000 W), which has a similar wavelength to sunlight. The results were applied to a pilot scale reactor system by converting the data to a standardized illumination time. In addition, the effects of initial pH and the $TiO_2$ dose on the photocatalytic degradation of chloroform were investigated. The results were compared with the specific surface area (S.S.A) and particle size of $TiO_2$, which changed according to the pH, to determine the relationship between the S.S.A, particle size and the photocatalytic degradation of chloroform. The experiment was carried out at pH 4~7 using 0.1, 0.2, 0.4 g/L of $TiO_2$. The particle size and specific surface area of $TiO_2$ were measured. There was no significant difference between the variables. However, pH affects the particle size distribution and specific surface area of $TiO_2$. Inaddition, the activation of a photocatalyst did not show a linear relationship with the specific surface area of $TiO_2$ in the photocatalytic degradation of chloroform.
Castration of male pig produces significant negative effects on skeletal muscle development. The androgen receptor (AR), two splice variants of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I Ea and MGF) and the myostatin gene may play important roles in this process. In the present study, the expression of AR, IGF-I Ea, MGF and myostatin genes in three skeletal muscles, the brachialis, longissimus and semitendinosus, were studied using real-time quantitative RT-PCR. Our experimental design used 14 pairs of male Landrace sire${\times}$Yorkshire dam piglets. The two piglets in each pair were full sibs, one of which was castrated at 21 d of age; the other remained intact. The study group was divided into subgroups of equal size. Animals in the first subgroup were slaughtered at 147 d and those of the second at 210 d of age. Carcass weight and lean meat yield were similar between boars and barrows at 147 d of age (p>0.05), whereas barrows had lower carcass weight and less lean meat yield at 210 d of age (p<0.05). Castration caused down-regulation of AR gene expression at both 147 and 210 d of age (p<0.05). The two splice variants of the IGF-I gene from porcine skeletal muscle were cloned using RT-PCR, and it was found that MGF differs from IGF-I Ea in having a 52-base insert in the last coding exon of the mRNA. Both splice variants were down-regulated by castration only at 210 d of age (p<0.05). No differences in expression of the myostatin gene were observed between boars and barrows at either 147 or 210 d of age (p>0.05). These results suggest that the downregulation of AR, IGF-I Ea and MGF gene expression following castration helps to explain the negative effect of castration on skeletal muscle development.
Top-k queries return k objects that users most want in the database. The Partitioned-Layer Index (simply, the PL -index) is a representative method for processing the top-k queries efficiently. The PL-index partitions the database into a number of smaller databases, and then, for each partitioned database, constructs a list of sublayers over the partitioned database. Here, the $i^{th}$ sublayer in the partitioned database has the objects that can be the top-i object in the partitioned one. To retrieve top k results, the PL-index merges the sublayer lists depending on the user's query. The PL-index has the advantage of reading a very small number of objects from the database when processing the queries. However, since many random accesses occur in merging the sublayer lists, query performance of the PL-index is not good in environments like disk-based databases. In this paper, we propose the Abstracted Partitioned-Layer Index (simply, the APL-index) that significantly improves the query performance of the PL-index in disk-based environments by reducing the number of random accesses. First, by abstracting each sublayer of the PL -index into a virtual (point) object, we transform the lists of sublayers into those of virtual objects (ie., the APL-index). Then, we virtually process the given query by using the APL-index and, accordingly, predict sublayers that are to be read when actually processing the query. Next, we read the sublayers predicted from each sublayer list at a time. Accordingly, we reduce the number of random accesses that occur in the PL-index. Experimental results using synthetic and real data sets show that our APL-index proposed can significantly reduce the number of random accesses occurring in the PL-index.

This paper is about the study to build a quantitative methodology to assess cyber threats and vulnerabilities on control systems. The SCADA system in power industry is one of the most representative and biggest control systems. The SCADA system was originally a local system but it has been extended to wide area as both ICT and power system technologies evolve. Smart Grid is a concept to integrate energy and IT systems, and therefore the existing cyber threats might be infectious to the power system in the integration process. Power system is operated on a real time basis and this could make the power system more vulnerable to the cyber threats. It is a unique characteristic of power systems different from ICT systems. For example, availability is the most critical factor while confidentiality is the one from the CIA triad of IT security. In this context, it is needed to reflect the different characteristics to assess cyber security risks in power systems. Generally, the risk(R) is defined as the multiplication of threat(T), vulnerability(V), and asset(A). This formula is also used for the quantification of the risk, and a conceptual methodology is proposed for the objective in this study.

This research was undertaken to evaluate the feasibility of lanthanum hydroxide for fluoride removal from aqueous solutions. A batch sorption experiments were conducted to study the influence of various factors such as pH, contact time, initial fluoride concentration and temperature on the sorption of fluoride on lanthanum hydroxide. The optimum fluoride removal was observed in the $pH_{eq}{\leq}8.8$. Sorption equilibrium of fluoride on lanthanum hydroxide was better described by the Freundlish isotherm model than by the Langmuir isotherm model. The adsorption energy obtained from D-R model was 9.21 kJ/mol indicating an ion-exchange process as primary adsorption mechanism. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model described well the experimental kinetic data. Thermodynamic parameters such as ${\Delta}Go^{\circ}$, ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ and ${\Delta}S^{\circ}$ indicated that the nature of fluoride sorption is spontaneous and endothermic. The used lanthanum hydroxide could be regenerated by washing with NaOH solution. Also, the results applied to real ground water indicate that fluoride selectivity and removal capacity of lanthanum hydroxide were superior to those of PA anion-exchange resin.

In this paper, we suggest a route plan sharing service for the navigation assistance service which is the second item of 16 items in maritime service portfolios (MSPs) for safety navigation based on interview process. Also, we developed scenarios for effectiveness evaluation of the proposed service, and conducted simulations using full mission ship handling simulator (FMSS) for effectiveness evaluation of proposed services based on the developed scenarios. Through the simulations, we analyzed proximity measures, controllability statistics and subjective evaluations to assess the usefulness of suggested service. If accomplishing the test for new services to apply real ships and vessel traffic (VTS) center, there has possibilities to occur various risks in terms of time/cost problems. Therefore, there is needs for the preliminary effectiveness evaluation processes necessarily when adopts and implements new services. Because we expected the service that is helpful for safety navigation, but the test results are not when conducted a simulation.
To enhance the recycling rate of used metal resources, it is strongly desired to develop a metal sorting system that can automatically identify metal type from mixed metal scraps and sort them separately. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS) is a technique that enables real time classification of different metals based on multi-elemental and in-air analysis. In this work, we report the results of LIBS elemental analysis of field scrap samples acquired from a recycling company. By applying multivariate analysis, it was found that the LIBS signals of five different metals could be perfectly classified if surface contamination was removed. The classification accuracy degraded for LIBS signals including contaminant emission, which however could be overcome by performing the multivariate analysis using properly selected emission lines of higher correlation only. The significant improvement in classification accuracy and process speed by the selection of proper emission lines demonstrated the feasibility of LIBS technique as an industrial tool for metal scrap sorting.
Water distribution system (WDS) pipe bursts are caused from excessive pressure, pipe aging, and ground shift from temperature change and earthquake. Prompt detection of and response to the failure event help prevent large-scale service interruption and catastrophic sinkhole generation. To that end, this study proposes a improved Western Electric Company (WECO) method to improve the detection effectiveness and efficiency of the original WECO method. The original WECO method is an univariate Statistical Process Control (SPC) technique used for identifying any non-random patterns in system output data. The improved WECO method multiples a threshold modifier (w) to each threshold of WECO sub-rules in order to control the sensitivity of anomaly detection in a water distribution network of interest. The Austin network was used to demonstrated the proposed method in which normal random and abnormal pipe flow data were generated. The best w value was identified from a sensitivity analysis, and the impact of measurement frequency (dt = 5, 10, 15 min etc.) was also investigated. The proposed method was compared to the original WECO method with respect to detection probability, false alarm rate, and averaged detection time. Finally, this study provides a set of guidelines on the use of the WECO method for real-life WDS pipe burst detection.

This paper suggests an algorithm that obtains Directed Graph Minimum Spanning Tree (DMST), using Prim MST algorithm which is Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) of undirected graph. At first, I suggested the Prim DMST algorithm that chooses Minimum Weight Arc(MWA) from out-going nodes from each node, considering differences between undirected graph and directed graph. Next, I proved a disadvantage of Prim DMST algorithm and Chu-Liu/Edmonds DMST (typical representative DMST) of not being able to find DMST, applying them to 3 real graphs. Last, as an algorithm that can always find DMST, an advanced Prim DMST is suggested. The Prim DMST algorithm uses a method of choosing MWA among out-going arcs of each node. On the other hand, the advanced Prim DMST algorithm uses a method of choosing a coinciding arc from the out-going and in-going arcs of each node. And if there is no coinciding arc, it chooses MWA from the out-going arcs from each node. Applying the suggested algorithm to 17 different graphs, it succeeded in finding the same DMST as that found by Chu-Liu/Edmonds DMST algorithm. Also, it does not require such a complicated calculation as that of Chu-Liu/Edmonds DMST algorithm to delete the cycle, and it takes less time for process than Prim DMST algorithm.

The late 20th century saw the industrial period end only to transform into the digital era where people have begun to pay attention to craft because it a field that respects emotion as the essential value, an alternative to overcome the side effect that people have created. Today a new world - where the virtual and the real co-exist through artificial intelligence (AI) - has suddenly approached us and the future of craft is faced with a new situation as it needs to present a new creative solution as a tool that is necessary for human way of life - a tool that has been a necessity throughout history and the evolution of life. As a result for a continued development, craft attempts to establish a new paradigm through current trends represented by our modern society, which is the emergence of creative development through convergence. This study presents creative experiments attempted through the convergence of craft with other heterogeneous tendencies connected to the field. The objective of the study is to enable makers to acquire a more creative way of thinking at the same time as inspiring them and suggesting new creative possibilities in order to develop their work through creative convergence. In Chapter 2, the study investigates on the current status of craft in general, and compares it with what is taking place in Korea; in Chapter 3 the significance of convergence in craft and the process of creating is addressed through case studies. Lastly in Chapter 4, with the basis on analytical case studies, the attribute and the potential of convergence in the field of craft is observed. By analyzing different phenomena presented through attempts to converge in contemporary craft, it has been possible to view the future of the 21st century craft through assessments on what is active and what is as yet hidden potential.
