  • The PMGS(Plant Model Generating System) was developed based on modular modeling method and fluid network calculation concept. Fluid network calculation is used as a method of real-time computation of fluid network, and the module which has a topology with node and branch is defined to take advantages of modular modeling. Also, the database which have a shared memory as an instance is designed to manage simulation data in real-time. The applicability of the PMGS was examined implementing the HRSG(Heat Recovery Steam Generator) control logic on DCS.

  • In order to satisfy the requirements of time reduction and cost saving for development of electronic control systems(ECU) in automotive industry, the applications of a standardized real-time operating system(RTOS) and a communication protocol to ECUs are increased. In this study, a body control module(BCM) that employs OSEK/VDX(open system and corresponding interfaces for automotive electronics/vehicle distributed executive) OS tour the RTOS and a controller area network(CAN) fur the communication protocol is designed, and the performances of the system are evaluated. The BCM controls doors, mirrors, and windows of the vehicle through the in-vehicle network. To identify all the transmitted and received control messages, a PC connected with the CAN communication protocol behaves as a CAN bus emulator. The control system based upon in-vehicle network improves the system stability and reduces the number of wiring harness. Furthermore it is easy to maintain and simple to add new features because the system is designed based on the standards of RTOS and communication protocol.

Real-Time Control of Networked Control Systems via Ethernet

  • In this paper, we discuss real-time control of networked control systems (NCSs) and practical issues in the choice of the communication networks for this purpose. An appropriate integration of control systems, real-time environments, and network communication systems allows the optimization of the quality-of-control (QoC) in NCSs. We compare several prevailing network types that may be used in control applications to offer a guideline of choosing a proper network. A real-time operating environment is also presented as an important ingredient of NCS design. To evaluate its feasibility and effectiveness, a real-time NCS containing a ball magnetic levitation (Maglev) setup is implemented via an Ethernet. Based on the experimental results, it is concluded in this paper that real-time control via Ethernet is a practical and feasible solution to NCS design.

CFP Scheduling for Real-Time Service and Energy Efficiency in the Industrial Applications of IEEE 802.15.4

  • In industrial applications, sensor networks have to satisfy specified time requirements of exchanged messages. IEEE 802.15.4 defines the communication protocol of the physical and medium access control layers for wireless sensor networks, which support real-time transmission through guaranteed time slots (GTSs). In order to improve the performance of IEEE 802.15.4 in industrial applications, this paper proposes a new traffic scheduling algorithm for GTS. This algorithm concentrates on time-critical industrial periodic messages and determines the values of network and node parameters for GTS. It guarantees real-time requirements of periodic messages for industrial automation systems up to the order of tens to hundreds of milliseconds depending on the traffic condition of the network system. A series of simulation results are obtained to examine the validity of the scheduling algorithm proposed in this study. The simulation results show that this scheduling algorithm not only guarantees real-time requirements for periodic message but also improves the scalability, bandwidth utilization, and energy efficiency of the network with a slight modification of the existing IEEE 802.15.4 protocol.

  • Because robot hardware architecture generally is consisted of a few sensors and motors connected to the central processing unit, this type of structure is led to time consuming and unreliable system. For analysis, one of the fundamental difficulties in real-time system is how to be bounded the time behavior of the system. When a distributed control network controls the robot, with a central computing hub that sets the goals for the robot, processes the sensor information and provides coordination targets for the joints. If the distributed system supposed to be connected to a control network, the joints have their own control processors that act in groups to maintain global stability, while also operating individually to provide local motor control. We try to analyze the architecture of network-based humanoid robot's leg part and deal with its application using the CAN(Controller Area Network) protocol.

  • This paper analyses the real-time performance of Ethernet based intranet whether it is applicable to the real-time network. Unpredictability of transmission delay by collision-delay-retransmission mechanism in CAMA/CD(Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detect) of Ethernet is the major reason making hard to apply to real-time system. Both retransmission mechanism of TCP(Transmission Control Protocol) for reliability and sliding windows algorithm for high utilization make hard to predict transmission delay.   • In this paper, we develop a real-time manufacturing control and information management(POP) system that can support realization of CIM and information network of manufacturing system. The POP system systematically collect informal data that is originated from working area and make an offer collected information to planning side. Especially, this study designs a modular POP terminal that directly extract and process momentary information from field source and provide it to control system on real-time. In addition, we apply developed POP system with open architecture to flexibly and optimally operate the manufacturing system based on CIM.

  • A new intelligent power network (Smart Grid) that grafts some new technologies, such as the extension of the new and reproducible energy, electric motors, and electric storages, onto the regulation of green house gases according to the recent convention on climate changes has been actively promoted. As establishing such an intelligent power network, it is possible to implement a real-time rate system according to the change from the conventional single directional information transmission to the bidirectional information transmission. Such a real-time rate system can provide power during the chip rate hour by avoiding the high rate hour although customers use the same level of power through providing such real-time rate information including power generation costs. In this study, the establishment of an operating system that makes an effective use of the real-time rate system and its operation method are to be proposed.

  • In a distributed real-time control system, it is essential to confirm the timing behavior of all tasks because these tasks of each real-time controller have to finish their processes within the specified time intervals called a deadline. In order to satisfy this objective, the timing analysis of a distributed real-time system such as shcedulability test must be performed during the system design phase. In this study, a simple application of CAN fur a vehicle body network system is formulated to apply to a holistic scheduling analysis, and the worst-case execution time (WCET) and the worst-case end-to-end response time (WCRT) are evaluated in the point of holistic system view.

  • 네트워크 및 종단 노드의 시스템에 걸친 제한된 자원을 활용하여 실현되는 영상/음성 전달 서비스를 위한 멀티미디어 응용 프로그램의 품질을 보장하기 위해서는 지연, 지터, 손실과 같은 전송 상태와 CPU, 메모리의 사용량과 같은 시스템의 상태를 동시에 관찰하는 것이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 액세스그리드 (Access Grid) 경우와 같이 IP 멀티캐스트 상에 동작하는 RTP/RTCP에 기반한 실시간 미디어 응용 프로그램을 대상으로 동적/정적 모니터링 방식을 혼용하여 멀티캐스트 상태와 시스템 상태를 측정하는 혼성 모니터링 방식을 제안한다. 또한 종단간 전송 품질이 저하된 경우 제안한 모니터링 방식에서 측정된 결과를 비교/분석하여 품질 저하의 원인을 판단하고 원인에 적합한 대응방안을 연계하고i라 한다. 이 결과를 바탕으로 네트워크/시스템의 상태 변화에 적응적인 영상/음성 전송 서비스의 가능성을 타진하고 종단간 전송 품질 저하 방지를 위한 효과를 예상한다.
