In this study, the accuracy of a real-time hybrid test (RTHT) employed for a performance test of a tuned mass damper (TMD) on an offshore wind turbine (OWT) with a complicated jacket-type supporting structure is quantified and evaluated by comparing the RTHT results with the experimental data obtained from a shaking table test (STT), in which a 1/25-scale model for a typical 5-MW OWT controlled by a TMD was tested. In the RTHT, the jacket-type OWT structure was modelled using both multiple-DOF (MDOF) and single-DOF (SDOF) numerical models. When compared with the STT test data, the test results of the RTHT show that while the SDOF model, which requires less control computational time, is able to well predict the peak responses of the nacelle and TMD only, the MDOF model is able to effectively predict both the peak and over-all time-history responses at multiple critical locations of an OWT structure. This also indicates that, depending on the type of structural responses considered, an RTHT with either an SDOF or a MDOF model may be a promising alternative to the STT to assess the effectiveness of a TMD for seismic mitigation in an OWT context.

In this study, a new lab-scale test equipment was developed to evaluate the variation of concrete workability after pumping. The equipment was designed to simulate the pressure and shearing applied to concrete during actual pumping. In order to examine the feasibility of evaluating variation of concrete workability through lab-scale test equipment, real-scale pumping tests and lab-scale tests were performed together. The design strength of concrete used in the both tests was 24, 35, and 60MPa, and the length of pipe used in pumping tests was 130, 304, and 518m. The lab-scale tests were performed in consideration of actual pumping conditions(pressure, shearing, and pumping duration time). The workability(slump or slum flow) of concrete was measured before test, after the pumping test, and after lab-scale test. In all tests, workability of all concrete mixtures decreased. In addition, the results of both tests were measured greatly similarly.

In this paper, modal testing and finite element modeling results to identify the modal parameters of a nuclear fuel rod as well as its cladding tube are discussed. A vertically standing full-size cladding tube and a fuel rod with lead pellets were used in the modal testing. As excessive flow-induced vibration causes a failure in fuel rods, such as fretting wear, the vibration level of fuel rods should be low enough to prevent failure of these components. Because vibration amplitude can be estimated based on the modal parameters, the dynamic characteristics must be determined during the design process. Therefore, finite element models are developed based on the test results. The effect of a lumped mass attached to a cladding tube model was identified during the finite element model optimization process. Unlike a cladding tube model, the density of a fuel rod with pellets cannot be determined in a straightforward manner because pellets do not move in the same phase with the cladding tube motion. The density of a fuel rod with lead pellets was determined by comparing natural frequency ratio between the cladding tube and the rod. Thus, an improved fuel rod finite element model was developed based on the updated cladding tube model and an estimated fuel rod density considering the lead pellets. It is shown that the entire pellet mass does not contribute to the fuel rod dynamics; rather, they are only partially responsible for the fuel rod dynamic behavior.
This paper presents a new software development environment that supports an integrated methodology for covering all phases of software development and gives integrated methods with tools for ITUT (Telecommunication Standardization Section of the International Telecommunication Union) languages. The design of the environment to improve software productivity and quality is based on five main concepts: 1) formal specifications based on SDL (Specification and Description Language) and MSC (Message Sequence Charts) in the design phase, 2) verification and validation of those designs by tools, 3) automatic code generation and a safe separate compilation scheme based on CHILL (CCITT High-Level Language) to facilitate programming-in-the-many and programming-in-the-large. 4) debugging of distributed real-time concurrent CHILL programs, and 5) simulation of application software for integrated testing on the host machine based on CHILL. The application results of the environment compared with other approaches show that the productivity is increased by 19 % because of decreasing implementation and testing cost, and the quality is increased by 83 % because of the formal specifications with its static and dynamic checking facilities.

Standard procedures for a fracture toughness testing require very severe restrictions for the specimen geometry to eliminate a size effect on the measured properties. Therefore, the used standard fracture toughness data results in the integrity assessment being irrationally conservative. However, a realistic fracture in general structures, such as in nuclear power plants, may develop under the low constraint condition of a large scale yielding with a shallow surface crack. In this paper, cleavage fracture toughness tests have been made on side-grooved PCVN (precracked charpy V-notch) type specimens (10 by 10 by 55 mm) with various crack depths. The constraint effects on the crack depth ratios were evaluated quantitatively by the developed scaling method using the 3-D finite element method. After the fracture toughness correction from scaling model, the statistical size effects were also corrected according to the standard ASTM E 1921 procedure. The results were evaluated through a comparison with the $T_0$ of the standard CT specimen. The corrected $T_0$ for all of the PCVN specimens showed a good agreement to within $5.4^{\circ}C$ regardless of the crack depth, while the averaged PCVN $T_0$ was $13.4^{\circ}C$ higher than the real CT test results.

This study attempts to develop a real-time debonding monitoring system for carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) strengthened structures by continuously inspecting the bonding condition between the CFRP layer and the host structure. The uniqueness of this study is in developing a new concept and theoretical framework of nondestructive testing (NDT), in which debonding is detected without relying on previously-obtained baseline data. The proposed reference-free damage diagnosis is achieved based on the concept of time reversal acoustics (TRA). In TRA, an input signal at an excitation point can be reconstructed if the response signal measured at another point is reemitted to the original excitation point after being reversed in the time domain. Examining the deviation of the reconstructed signal from the known initial input signal allows instantaneous identification of damage without requiring a baseline signal representing the undamaged state for comparison. The concept of TRA has been extended to guided wave propagations within the CFRP-strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beams to improve the detectibility of local debonding. Monotonic and fatigue load tests of large-scale CFRP-strengthened RC beams are conducted to demonstrate the potential of the proposed reference-free debonding monitoring system. Comparisons with an electro-mechanical impedance method and an inferred imaging technique are provided as well.

This study aims at establishing a technique for sailing yachts model tests with sailing condition. It is very important to estimate a ship's potential speed performance before building a real ship. Several methods are used to estimate a ship's potential speed performance such as using parent ship data, standard vessel chart and model test. Model test is the most precise among these options. In korea. model testing is widely used with general vessels but not with sailing yachts. Because sailing yachts are propelled with heeling and leeway. using the wind. another method is needed to estimate their speed. The new model test. which is different from tests for upright general vessels, is in a great demand. In this paper. we describe a test method for the sailing yacht model test. based on Masuyama's equation of motion. And we describe choosing scale ratio. production process and materials of the model. Also. various ways of measuring instruments. attaching jigs and adjusting calibration are described so that they can be utilized as useful data for model testing.
The simplest and the most important distribution in survival analysis is exponential distribution. Koziol and Green (1976) derived Cram$\acute{e}$r-von Mises statistic's randomly censored version based on the Kaplan-Meier product limit estimate of the distribution function; however, it could not be practical for a real data set since the statistic is for testing a simple goodness of fit hypothesis. We generalized it to the composite hypothesis for exponentiality with an unknown scale parameter. We also considered the classical Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistic and generalized it by the exact same way. The two statistics are compared through a simulation study. As a result, we can see that the generalized Koziol-Green statistic has better power in most of the alternative distributions considered.
Several structural calamities in the second half of the 20th century have shown that adequate collapse-resistance cannot be achieved by designing the individual elements of a structure without taking their interconnectivity into consideration. It has long been acknowledged that membrane behaviour of reinforced concrete structures can significantly increase the robustness of a structure and delay a complete collapse. An experimental large-scale test was conducted on a horizontally restrained, continuous reinforced concrete slab exposed to an artificial failure of the central support and subsequent loading until collapse of the specimen. Within this investigation the development of catenary action associated with the formation of large displacements was observed to increase the ultimate load capacity of the specimen significantly. The development of displacements, strains and horizontal forces within this investigation confirmed a load transfer process from an elastic bending mechanism to a tension controlled catenary mechanism. In this contribution a special focus is directed towards strain and crack development at critical sections. The results of this contribution are of particular importance when validating numerical models related to the development of catenary action in concrete slabs.

As the increasing of capacity and technology of power facilities, rotating machines are getting higher at capacity and voltage scale. Thus the monitoring and diagnosis of generators for fault detection has attracted intensive interest. In this paper, we developed fault diagnosis system for monitoring the fault operations in bad power systems. In order to verify the performance of this fault diagnosis system, we made the small scaled testing system which has the same winding structure of the real synchronous generator. The magnetic flux patterns in air-gap of a small-scale generator under various fault states as well as a normal state are tested by hall sensors and the fault detection system.
