Is Currency Appreciation or Depreciation Expansionary in Thailand?

  • Many developing countries have attempted to depreciate their currencies in order to make their products cheaper, stimulate exports, shift aggregate demand to the right, and increase aggregate output. However, currency depreciation tends to increase import prices, raise domestic inflation, reduce capital inflows, and shift aggregate supply to the left. The net impact is unclear. The paper incorporates the monetary policy function in the model, which is determined by the inflation gap, the output gap, the real effective exchange rate, and the world real interest rate. Applying an extended IS-MP-AS model (Romer, 2000), the paper finds that real depreciation raised real GDP during 1997.Q1-2005.Q3 whereas real appreciation increased real GDP during 2005.Q4-2017.Q2. In addition, a higher government debt-to-GDP ratio, a lower U.S. real federal funds rate, a higher real stock price, a lower real oil price or a lower expected inflation rate would help increase real GDP. Hence, real depreciation or real appreciation may increase or reduce aggregate output, depending upon the level of economic development. Although expansionary fiscal policy is effective in stimulating the economy, caution needs to be exercised as there may be a debt threshold beyond which a further increase in the debt-to-GDO ratio would hurt economic growth.

Representing Navigation Information on Real-time Video in Visual Car Navigation System

  • Car navigation system is a key application in geographic information system and telematics. A recent trend of car navigation system is using real video captured by camera equipped on the vehicle, because video has more representation power about real world than conventional map. In this paper, we suggest a visual car navigation system that visually represents route guidance. It can improve drivers' understanding about real world by capturing real-time video and displaying navigation information overlaid directly on the video. The system integrates real-time data acquisition, conventional route finding and guidance, computer vision, and augmented reality display. We also designed visual navigation controller, which controls other modules and dynamically determines visual representation methods of navigation information according to current location and driving circumstances. We briefly show implementation of the system.

How Have Financialization and Offshoring Affected the Firm's Investment in Korea?

  • This paper examines how firm's investment has been affected by offshoring and financialization in Korea over the period 2000-2014 by using industry-level data collected from World Input Output Database (WIOD) and firm-level data collected from the KIS-Value Database. The findings are summarized as follows. First, offshoring index as expected shows a negative relationship with real investment. This negative impact is stronger in a large firm group. Second, there is a positive relationship between dividend payments and real investment. The positive relationship is greater in a small & medium-sized firm group. Third, the purchase of financial assets and the income generated from financial assets are positively related to real investment. The positive relationship is stronger in the small & medium-sized firm group. The empirical results show that firm size is a factor that effectively affects firm's real investment. This paper suggests that the influence of financialization and offshoring on firm's real investment should be assessed in various contexts rather than in a unilateral context.

  • 새로운 정보기술이 등장하고 교류가 늘어나면서 과거 간명해 보였던 개념과 현실의 관계가 다변화되고 모호하게 변하고 있다. 가상공간(cyberspace)의 출현은 가상장소(cyberplaces)가 존재함을 뜻하며, 또한 현실 세계의 공간과 장소 간의 관계에 못지 않게 가상공간과 가상장소의 관계도 복잡할 것임을 암시한다. 정보기술을 활용하여 만들어 낸 세상의 여러 장소나 과정의 복제품, 즉 가상현실(virtual reality)은 이러한 관계들을 탐색하는 실마리를 제공하낟. 그러나, 실제가상(real virtuality), 즉 정보기술을 이용하여 현실세계의 장소에 대한 경험을 강화하면 공간과 장소의 관계에 대하여 더 깊은 통찰을 얻을 수 있다. 실제가상은 지리학자로 하여금 그가 하는 일의 효율성을 높이고 영역을 넓히는 데 여러 가지 참신하고 강력한 도구를 마련해 준다. 실제가상이 널리 쓰이게 되면 지리학자들의 연구와 교육, 응용 분야에서 자료, 분석기법, 이론을 다루는 양식이 달라질 것이다.

  • 현실과는 다른 법칙이 지배하는 유토피아적 월드를 제공하여 플레이어들이 지닌 탈일상의 욕구를 충족시켜야 했던 MMORPG는 시간이 흐르면서 변화하고 있다. 현실에 대한 도피처가 아닌 색다른 월드를 구현, 새로운 경험의 장을 제공하는 MMORPG가 주목받고 있는 것이다. 본 논문은 환상의 범주를 바탕으로 여러 MMORPG의 배경 서사를 비교 분석한다. 즉, 톨킨 류의 중세형 판타지에만 초점을 맞추던 이전 MMORPG 배경 서사와 최근 몇몇 게임이 지니는 새로운 배경서사 경향을 비교, 그 차이점과 특징을 제시하는 것이다. 이는 <리니지> 이 후 비슷한 게임만을 양산해낸다는 지적을 받고 있는 국내 MMORPG의 배경 서사에 새로운 시각을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.

사각형 특징 기반 Visual SLAM을 위한 자세 추정 방법 (A Camera Pose Estimation Method for Rectangle Feature based Visual SLAM)

  • In this paper, we propose a method for estimating the pose of the camera using a rectangle feature utilized for the visual SLAM. A warped rectangle feature as a quadrilateral in the image by the perspective transformation is reconstructed by the Coupled Line Camera algorithm. In order to fully reconstruct a rectangle in the real world coordinate, the distance between the features and the camera is needed. The distance in the real world coordinate can be measured by using a stereo camera. Using properties of the line camera, the physical size of the rectangle feature can be induced from the distance. The correspondence between the quadrilateral in the image and the rectangle in the real world coordinate can restore the relative pose between the camera and the feature through obtaining the homography. In order to evaluate the performance, we analyzed the result of proposed method with its reference pose in Gazebo robot simulator.

  • 본 논문에서는 실생활문제에서 Skemp의 수학학습이론을 토대로 학생들이 나타내는 분수 개념에 대한 유형을 연구하였다. 4-6학년을 대상으로 학생들의 분수 개념에 대한 개념적 이해도를 조사하기 위해 3개의 문항에 대한 학생들의 반응을 분석하였고, 이를 바탕으로 바람직한 몇 가지 교수-학습 방법을 함께 제안하였다.

정면충돌 시 고령운전자 상해 특성에 관한 실사고 연구 (Real-world Accident Study on Injury Characteristics of Elderly Driver in Car-to-Car Frontal Crashes)

  • Real-world accident cases were investigated to understand injury characteristics of the elderly driver. A total 10 cases of car-to-car frontal crash accidents from passenger car including SUV claimed to domestic car insurance company were reviewed. The injury characteristics of the elderly were analyzed from personal information (gender, age), medical treatment record (medical certificate, curative days), vehicle information (model, air-bag, seatbelt) and damage information. This study showed that elderly driver has higher possibility of thorax injury than non-elderly's. Moreover, Injury type and severity were more severe than non-elderly driver at similar type accident conditions. Also, elderly driver's medical treatment period needs 3 times more than non-elderly driver's.

자동차사고 손상유형과 상해에 관한 실사고 연구 (A Real-world Accident Study on Vehicle Damage Types and Occupant Injury)

  • Base on insurance vehicle collision and bodily injury claim reports, 23,655 cases of vehicle to vehicle accidents occurred in Korea 2010 are investigated in order to understand vehicle damage severities, repair costs and occupant injury types. The results of our statistical analysis reveal that minor damages with small dent or scratches on vehicle body panels which is assumed to imply during very low speed crashes are major portion of accident severities types. The most vulnerable body regions due to the real-world accident are neck. The 86.3% of total injured driver in minor rear damaged vehicles has reported neck pains and they are followed by whole bodies and head but with much lower occurrence rates.

  • This paper proposes the method which estimates the pointing region at the real world. This paper uses the technique to easily calibrate a camera of Z. Zhang. First, we calculate the projection matrix of each camera by the technique. Next, we estimate the location of the shoulder and the fingertip. Then we compute the pointing region in 3D real world by using projection matrix of each camera. Experiment result showed that the error between estimated point and the plane center point is less than 5cm.
