The Experimental Study of Fire Properties in Reduced-scale Atrium Space (아트리움 공간에서의 화재성상에 관한 축소모델 실험연구)

  • In this study, reduced-scale experiments as the alternative to a real-scale fire test were conducted to understand fire properties in atrium space. The scaling laws were derived from $\pi$-parameters which were deduced by dimensional analysis of governing equations (continuity, conservation of momentum and conservation energy). The 1/50 scale experiment simulated the real-scale fire test in SIVANS atrium at Japan were conducted under the scaling laws. And this results were compared with real-scale experiment results. Furthermore these results were visualized by video recording system using laser light sheet.

  • The combustion characteristics of roof 'Jucsim' structure was analysed using real scale fire test on wooden structure heritage building. the fire test model was made to consider roof timberling internal structure for a Sunglemun. Structure of test body layed lime, soil, 'Jucsin' and ceiling board excepting roof tile to find heat propagation process by setting thermocouples. The first test to find fire growth and heat propagation process in the part of ceiling. The second test organized to find the efficiency of fire proof paint between ceiling board and inside of Jucsim structure. The third test try to get the performance level of fire proof fabric with the same manner. The result showed from the test proof the heavy smoke exposure with limited effect of fire proof paint however, reliable fire resistance effect showed in case of fire proof fabric.

  • This study aims to analyze fourteen cases' HRR & SPR results on bed mattress's reaction-to-fire test in real scale where open flame burner system is used with total heat supply of 27 kW. Most cases show all burning within 5 minutes from the beginning of the test and 3 cases of them reach flashover situation.

  • This study is aiming at analyzing correlation between flashover's time and maximum smoke production rate's time on sandwich panel specimens. For this analysis, KS F ISO 137481-1 has been performed for 23 kinds of sandwich panels which mainly consist of EPS, PIR, PUR, Glass wool and so on. KS F ISO 13784-1 represents real scale reaction-to-fire test and focuses on measuring flashover phenomenon rather than other tests as like ISO 5660-1 and SBI.

  • In this study, we looked into the method to establish fire growth rate by buildings use for growing fire at the beginning of a fire considering the characteristics of the combustibles in a performance-based design. Actual conditions survey and literature review were carried out for the fire load and exposed surface area of combustibles to establish design fire by domestic building use. As a results, a simplified prediction equation of fire growth rate which depends on fire load and weight of combustibles could be derived by calculating the relation between the fire load and the fire growth rate of an initial fire through investigation of combustibles by domestic building use.Also, as a result of analyzing the placement of combustibles and location of the ignition source, it was found that the influence of the materials of the combustibles and the materials of the combustibles adjacent to the ignition source is big. Though 4 different experiments were carried out for the evaluation, the result of comparing the findings with those of FGR model showed that the fire growth rate was similarly derived.

  • A real A real scale fire test was performed in accordance with KS F ISO 9705 test method to investigate the combustion characteristics of glass wool sandwich panels. To do this, six kinds of specimens having different density and thickness were examined. The glass sandwich panels were installed inside the room, which had internal dimensions of 2.4 m wide${\times}3.6m$ deep${\times}2.4m$ high. also, combustion characteristic are determined through the exposure of specimens to flame by the propane gas burner has a capacity of 100 kW (10 minutes) and 300 kW (10 minutes) for total 25 minutes of test time. Results of the real sale fire test, it was found that maximum HRR of each specimen was 333.2~365.5 kW, maximum heat flux was 12.4~12.9 kW/$m^2$ And, maximum internal temperature for all specimens was not over $500^{\circ}C$. During the real scale fire test, flash-over didn't occur and the difference by density and thickness of specimen was not found from the results of HRR, heat flux, and internal temperature measurement.

  • Real scale fire tests was carried out for extinguishing performance evaluation of the wetting agent. The experiment was conducted in accordance with a Class A fire extinguishing test methods specified in the 'Type Approval of the Manual System Fire Extinguisher and Technical Standards of Test'. In addition, the subjects of this experiment were the wood flour and rice husk. Fire-fighting water, the three kinds of wetting agents used in the country and this study was used, was undertaken to determine a clear discrimination of the water and wetting agent. In the experimental results, it was confirmed that the internal temperature is maintained long time in the case of water. The internal temperature were rapidly lowered in the experiment of wetting agents. Therefore, the discrimination of extinguishing ability was confirmed by the temperature distribution in accordance with time. Based on the results of this experiment, this study is expected to be used as a underlying material on presenting a method of optimized performance evaluation of wetting extinguishing agent.

The Risk Assessment of Tunnel Fire Through Real Scale Fire Test (실물터널 화재실험을 통한 터널화재 위험도 평가)

  • The real scale tunnel fire tests are carried out for the first time in domestic range to assess the extent of risk in the tunnel fire. The tunnel dimension is 465 m in length, 9.2 m in width and 6.5 m in height. Gasoline pools with 0.25 MW∼2.5 MW size and a 1500CC passenger car are used as fire sources. Six jet fans are used to change the flow velocity inside the tunnel. Temperatures at total 86 points in the tunnel are measured to find the temperature distribution and smoke behavior in the real tunnel fire. In the experiment, it is examined that the important parameters to assess the extent of risk in tunnel fire such as back layering of smoke front, descending of smoke layer and the fire size of a real passenger car.

  • Prior to real fire test, theoretical of the fire resistant performance of the structural ele-ments is often less time consuming and less costly to calculate it, than to determine the perform-ance experimentally. This study is aimed at introduction of estimating methods of the fire resistant performance of the steel structural elements not by the actual fire tests but by the mathematical models.
