An high-speed isothermal calorimeter which can trace the progress of a liquid phase reversible reaction was constructed using analog and digital computer. By means of a set point change of the calorimeter, the thermal energy capacity and the heat of reaction in reversible reaction mixture can be measured. The heat of reaction between 2-methyl furan and maleic anhydride and the heat capacities of the adduct were 61,200 J/mol and 2.38 J/ g K, respectively. Also reaction equilibrium constant and reaction rate constants can be estimated from the response curves of the calorimeter.

The Kinetics velocity for hydrolysis reaction of vanillylidene imine derivatives has been measured by ultra-violet ray spectrophotometer in 20wt% $dioxane-H_2O$ at $25^{\circ}C$. It was measured the reaction rate Constant of vanillylidene imine derivatives that can be applied widely following to pH-change at $25^{\circ}C$. Final products that hydrolyzed the vanillylidene imine certified in vanillin and aniline derivative, and the effect of substitution radical that has affected on hydrolysis reaction was largely promoted to reaction rate by electron attrating group in acidity and electron donoring group in basic. From the results of rate constant to hydrolysis reaction, substituent radical effect and final products. It has certified the hydrolysis reaction mechanism of vanillylidene imine derivatives.
This study is mainly focused on micellar effect of tetradecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide(TTABr) solution including alkylbenzimidazole(R-BI) on dephosphorylation of diphenyl-4-nitrophenylphosphinate(DPNPIN) in carbonate buffer(pH 10.7). Dephosphorylation of DPNPIN is accelerated by $BI^{\Theta}$ ion in $10^2$ M Carbonate buffer(pH 10.7) of $4{\times}10^{-4}$ M TTABr solution up to 80 times as compared with the reaction in Carbonate buffer by no benzimidazole(BI) solution of TTABr. The value of pseudo first order rate constant($k_{\psi}$) of the reaction in TTABr solution reached a maximum rate constant increasing micelle concentration. The reaction mediated by $R-BI^{\Theta}$ in micellar solutions are obviously slower than those by $BI^{\Theta}$, and the reaction rate were decreased with increase of lengths of alkyl groups. It seems due to steric effect of alkyl groups of $R-BI^{\Theta}$ in Stern layer of micellar solution. The surfactant reagent, TTABr, strongly catalyzes the reaction of DPNPIN with R-BI and its anion($R-BI^{\Theta}$) in Carbonate buffer(pH 10.7). For example, $4{\times}10^{-4}$ M TTABr in $1{\times}10^{-4}$ M BI solution increase the rate constant($k_{\psi}=99.7{\times}10^{-4}1/sec$) of the dephosphorylation by a factor ca. 28, when compared with reaction($k_{\psi}=3.5{\times}10^{-4}1/sec$) in BI solution(without TTABr). And no TTABr solution, in BI solution increase the rate constant($k_{\psi}=3.5{\times}10^{-4}1/sec$) of the dephosphorylation by a factor ca. 39, when compared with reaction ($k_{\psi}=1.0{\times}10^{-5}1/sec$) in water solution(without BI).
In this study, the decomposition of gas-phase TCE, Benzene and Toluene, in air streams by direct UV Photolysis and UV/TiO$_2$ process was studied. For direct UV Photolysis, by regressing with computer calculation to the experimental results the value of reaction rate constant k of TCE, Toluene and Benzene in this work were determined to be 0.00392s$\^$-l/, 0.00230s$\^$-1/ and 0.00126s$\^$-1/, respectively. And the adsorption constant K of TCE, Toluene and Benzene in this work were determined to be 0.0519 mol$\^$-l/ ,0.0313mo1$\^$-1/ and 0.0084mo1$\^$-1/, respectively. For UV/TiO$_2$ system by regressing with computer calculation to the experimental results the value of reaction rate constant k of TCE, Toluene, and Benzene in this work were determined to be 5.74g/$\ell$$.$min, 3.85g/$\ell$$.$min, and 1.18g/$\ell$$.$min, respectively. And the catalyst adsorption constant K of TCE, Toluene, and Benzene in this work were determined to be 0.0005㎥/mg, 0.0043㎥/mg and 0.0048㎥/mg, respectively.

The transesterification reaction between diethanolamine and methyl methacrylate was kinetically investigated in the presence of various metal acetate catalysts at $120^{\circ}C$. The amount of reacted methyl methacrylate was measured by gas chromatography and liquid chromatography, and the reaction rate also measured from the amount of reaction products and reactants under each catalyst. The transesterification reaction was carried out in the first order with respect to the concentration of diethanolamine and methyl methacrylate, respectively. The over-all order is 2nd. The apparent rate constant was found to obey first-order kinetics with respect to the concentration of catalyst. The maximum reaction rate was appeared at the range of 1.4 to 1.6 of electronegativity of metal ions and instability constant of metal acetates.

VOC(Volatile Organic Compound) removal characteristics in continuous flow reactors have been numerically investigated. The photocatalytic reaction have been simulated with the binding constant and the reaction rate constant obtained from experimental data for the constant-volume batch reactor, and then VOC abatement in continuous flow reactors with the same conditions as those of batch reactor has been analyzed. The standard 4\kappa-\varepsilon$ model and mass conservation equation have been employed for numerical calculation, and heterogeneous reaction rate has been used in terms of the boundary condition of the conservation equation. in the case of the continuous flow reactor, reaction characteristics have been estimated with various inlet velocities and with different number of baffles. The result shows that the concentration distribution and flow patterns are strongly affected by the inlet velocity, and that with the increased inlet velocity, VOC removal rate is increased, while removal efficiency is decreased. This result may be useful in the design of reactors with improved VOC removal efficiency.
A kinetics study on the dissolution reaction of zinc-ferrite has been made with aqueous sulfuric acid in various temperature and concentration. Fraction reacted(R) and apparent rate constant(K) increased with increasing temperature and concentration of sulfuric acid solution. The rate of dissolution is shown by $1-(1-K)^{1/3}=Kt$ for the initial stage of the reaction in aqueous sulfuric acid, where K is apparent rate constant, R is fraction reacted and t is reaction time, respectively. Activation energy associated with reaction was determined to be 16.3 kcal/mole. The dissolution of zinc-ferrite in sulfuric acid solution is dissolved by sto-ichiometric composition, but Fe and Zn did not dissolved, respectively.
Artificial neural networks (ANNs), for a first time, were successfully developed for the modeling and prediction of solvent effects on rate constant of [2+2] cycloaddition reaction of diethyl azodicarboxylate with ethyl vinyl ether in various solvents with diverse chemical structures using quantitative structure-activity relationship. The most positive charge of hydrogen atom (q$^+$), dipole moment ($\mu$), the Hildebrand solubility parameter (${\delta}_H^2$) and total charges in molecule (q$_t$) are inputs and output of ANN is log k$_2$ . For evaluation of the predictive power of the generated ANN, the optimized network with 68 various solvents as training set was used to predict log k$_2$ of the reaction in 16 solvents in the prediction set. The results obtained using ANN was compared with the experimental values as well as with those obtained using multi-parameter linear regression (MLR) model and showed superiority of the ANN model over the regression model. Mean square error (MSE) of 0.0806 for the prediction set by MLR model should be compared with the value of 0.0275 for ANN model. These improvements are due to the fact that the reaction rate constant shows non-linear correlations with the descriptors.
The kinetics of the radical-polar molecule reaction $CH_3+HBr{\rightarrow}CH_4+Br$ has been studied at temperatures between 150 and 1000 K using classical dynamics procedures. Potential energy surfaces constructed using analytical forms of inter- and intramolecular interaction energies show a shallow well and barrier in the entrance channel, which affect the collision dynamics at low temperatures. Different collision models are used to distinguish the reaction occurring at low- and high-temperature regions. The reaction proceeds rapidly via a complex-mode mechanism below room temperature showing strong negative temperature dependence, where the effects of molecular attraction, H-atom tunneling and recrossing of collision complexes are found to be important. The temperature dependence of the rate constant between 400 and 1000 K is positive, the values increasing in accordance with the increase of the mean speed of collision. The rate constant varies from $7.6{\times}10^{-12}$ at 150 K to $3.7{\times}10^{-12}$ at 1000 K via a minimum value of $2.5{\times}10^{-12}\;cm^3\;molecule^{-1}\;s^{-1}$ at 400 K.
Purpose: Children born with single ventricle physiology demonstrate poor growth rate and suffer from malnutrition, which lead to increased morbidity and mortality in this population. We assume that an anabolic steroid, oxandrolone, will promote growth in these infants by improving myocardial energy utilization. The purpose of this paper is to study the efficacy of oxandrolone on myocardial energy consumption in these infants. Materials and Methods: We modeled single ventricle physiology in a lamb by prenatally shunting the aorta to the pulmonary artery and then postnatally, we monitored cardiac energy utilization by quantitatively measuring the first order reaction rate constant, $k_f$ of the creatine-kinase reaction in the heart using magnetization transfer $^{31}P$ magnetic resonance spectroscopy, home built $^1H/^{31}P$ transmit/receive double tuned coil, and transmit/receive switch. We also performed cine MRI to study the structure and dynamic function of the myocardium and the left ventricular chamber. The spectroscopy data were processed using home-developed python software, while cine data were analyzed using Argus software. Results: We quantitatively measured both the first order reaction rate constant and ejection fraction in the control, shunted, and the oxandrolone-treated lambs. Both $k_f$ and ejection fraction were found to be more significantly reduced in the shunted lambs compared to the control lambs, and they are increased in oxandrolone-treated lambs. Conclusion: Some improvement was observed in both the first order reaction rate constant and ejection fraction for the lamb treated with oxandrolone in our preliminary study.
