There are three carpet-like Codium species with a broadly expanded thallus reported from Korea and Japan: C. latum Suringar, C. tapetum Y. Lee, and C. tenuifolium Shimada, Tadano and J. Tanaka. During surveys of green algal diversity, we encountered a Codium species with carpet-like thalli from several sites on Jeju Island. To confirm the taxonomic identity of these specimens, we studied the morphological features and obtained rbcL gene sequences. The morphological and sequence data indicated that the carpet-like Codium specimens from Jeju are C. tenuifolium from Japan, but distant from Japanese C. latum. We propose that the carpet-like specimens from Jeju should be renamed C. tenuifolium, instead of C. tapetum or C. latum. C. tenuifolium is characterized by a tenuous, carpet-like and erect thallus with a very short and slightly compressed stipe arising from a discal holdfast, sub-pyriform and clavate utricles with a tumid and swollen apical head, and globular or sub-globular gametangia issued at the basal portion of the utricles.

Measures of two types of uncertainty that coexist in the Dempster-Shafer theory are overivewed. A measure of one type of uncertainty, which expresses nonspecificity of evidential claims, is well justified on both intuitive and mathermatical grounds. Proposed measures of the other types of uncertainty, which attempt to capture conflicts among evidential claims, are shown to have some deficiencies. To alleviate these deficiencies, a new measure is proposed. This measure, which is called a measure of discord, is not only satisfactory on intuitive grounds, but has alos desirable mathematical properties. A measure of total uncertainty, which is defined as the sum of nonspecificity and discord, is also discussed. The paper focuses on conceptual issues. Mathematical properties of the measure of idscord are only stated ; their proofs are given in a companion paper.

Segmental intestinal dilatation is rare, which causes symptom of bowel obstruction and requires resection. The resection is not only diagnostic but also curative procedure. Recently, author experienced 2 cases of segmental dilatation of the ileum due to focal agenesis of the intestinal muscularis in 7 day & 4 day-old female neonates. The post operative recovery was excellant in the first case after resection of dilated ileum(15cm in length) and end to end anastomosis, and discharged at 20th day. But in the second case, the passage disturbance was not relieved after resection of dilated ileum (30cm in length), and author re-resected 80cm more of dilated proximal ileum at 2 weeks after the first operation. This baby discharged after diarrhea control with Loperin on 1 month after the second operation. Final histologic examination showed 1) normal population of ganglion cells in both narrowed & dilated ileum in both cases. 2) focal abscence of muscularis propria in both cases. 3) relative hypertrophy of inner circular muscle layer and thinned, multiple fragmented outer longitudinal muscle layer in case 2.

A mutagenicity testing system using a specific locus mutation of Bombyx mori was introduced from National Institute of Genetics in Japan. In the system, mutagenicity could be detected by the egg color manifested by the pe and/or re genes, which is a kind of recessive visible mutation of the insect. The efficiency to detect mutagenicity of the system was examined and improved. To promote the sensitivity of the system to mutagens, eight varieties of Bombyx mori were tested for their sensitivity to two mutagens, EMS and MMC. Two varieties of the silkworm, N12 and C5, were finally selected as the most sensitive ones. The most sensitive development stage of the silkworm to mutagens was mid and late pupal stages for female and male, respectively. The system will be applied to test unknown mutagens after some more detail examination about its sensitivity.

This paper shows the failure(wear) phenomena of differential bearings in the transaxle of passenger cars and investigate their characteristics. It was found that the wear mechanism was mild abrasive wear caused by the presence of particles in the gear box. The sides of the outer raceway was more neared than center of it, so it is showed as if the crowning of outer raceway are increased. With close examination of the failed bearing, various countermeasures could be suggested.

Numerous evidence have been reported that fine particulate matters can play an important role in threatening human health. Recently concerns on fine particle pollution from various engines may require re-examination of particulate emission standards. The particles emitted by most diesel engines are mainly divided into their size ranges such as Dp< 50 nm and 50 nm< Dp< 1,000 nm. In this work, the number concentration and the size distribution of fine particles emitted from an exhaust manifold of a railroad diesel engine were measured under load test conditions using a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS). The fine particles observed were within the range of 7 to 304 nm under different load conditions with two different dilution ratios. The fine particles exhibited unique patterns showing bimodal shapes in size distribution.

The development of modern information technology has increased the amount of big data about patients' information and diseases. In this study, we developed a prediction model of diabetes using the health examination data provided by the public data portal in 2016. In addition, we graphically visualized diabetes incidence by sex, age, residence area, and income level. As a result, the incidence of diabetes was different in each residence area and income level, and the probability of accurately predicting male and female was about 65%. In addition, it can be confirmed that the influence of X on male and Y on female is highly to affect diabetes. This predictive model can be used to predict the high-risk patients and low-risk patients of diabetes and to alarm the serious patients, thereby dramatically improving the re-admission rate. Ultimately it will be possible to contribute to improve public health and reduce chronic disease management cost by continuous target selection and management.

The 3-dimensional measuring machine by using an ultrasonic sensor is used one of the NDE (Nondestructive Evaluation). It is applied to the inspection of pipelines, boreholes, pressure vessel and tank, and so on. On particular when a harsh environment prohibits the use of moving mechanical parts. The 3-dimensional measuring machine by using an ultrasonic sensor, which measure 1-dimensional information and 2-dimensional information simultaneously from a target of inspection, and then re construct 3-dimensional information. So we can find the situation in progress and predict remaining life and corrosion without destructive examination. It´s a point of excellence that the 3-dimensional measuring machine is portable.

Anak No. 3. the largest tomb that has ever been unearthed in Korea bears a significant meaning in the study of tomb and other re-lated subjects because it represents a specific era in history. The clothing on murals of Anak No 3. among other things provides a great deal of materials for the study on the history of clothing. We have discussed the male clothing on the murals dividing it into various categories such as official Kwan Mo, Po, Yu, Go, Dae Shin, etc. The clothing displayed a strong Chinese influence but at the same time also contained some elements of the Koguryo era. This fact shows the combination of the two cultures. There are two theories over whose tomb Anak No. 3 is "King's tomb" theory and "Dong Su" theory. Based on the result of examination of the tomb through the clothing "Dong Su" theory is considere to logical. The clothing on the murals can be regarded as Korean even if the tomb is that of a Chinese because that person is a part of the history of Koguryo.art of the history of Koguryo.

This study suggests that it is necessary to prove that the values of three areas of a triangle, which are obtained by the multiplication of the respective base and its corresponding height, are the same. It also seeks to deeply understand the meaning of Area formula of triangles by exploring some questions raised in the analysis of the proof. Area formula of triangles expresses the invariance of congruence and additivity on one hand, and the uniqueness of parallel line, one of the characteristics of Euclidean geometry, on the other. This discussion can be applied to introducing and developing exploratory learning on area in that it revisits the ordinary thinking on area.
