  • This paper aims to study the effect of measurement methods and cracking on chloride transport of concrete materials. Three kinds of measurement methods were carried out, including immersion test, rapid migration test and steady-state migration test. All of these measurements of chloride transport show that chloride ion diffusion coefficient decreased with the reduction of water to cement ratio. Results of the immersion test were less than that of rapid migration test and steady-state migration test. For the specimen of lower water to cement ratio, the external electrical field has little effect on chloride binding relatively. Compared with the results obtained by these different measurement methods, the lower water to cement ratio may cause smaller differences among these different methods. The external voltage can reduce chloride binding of concrete, and the higher electrical field made a strong impact on the chloride binding. Considering the effect of high voltage on the specimen, results indicate that results based on the steady-state migration test should be more reasonable. For cracked concrete, cracking can accelerate the chloride ion diffusion.

  • The strain compatibility analysis shows that the influential parameters of loading type, reinforcing ratio, and span-depth ratio affect on the tendon stress in unbonded prestresses concrete member significantly. However, existing test results did not comply exactly with the analytical results. In consequence, the present study was planned to examine the parameters in order to complete Moon/Lim's design equation. The test variables with 12 specimens were loading type, reinforcing ratio, and span-depth ratio. As results, the effect of influential parameters were examined throughly and Moon/Lim's design equation was proven to be accurate.

  • This study has been done to investigate the characteristics of synthetic fiber reinforcement sol with fully satruated . To this end, consolidated undrained triaxial test was performed on synthetic fiber reinforcement soil using the soft clay and plypropylene fiber . From the results of test, it was formed that the mixing ratio for weight and the aspect ratio of synthetic fiber have an effect on the shear characteristic of synthetic fiber rinforcement soil. Especially shear paramter C has line relationship for mixing ratio of fiber, and øhas parabolic relationship for mixing ratio of fiber.

  • Objectives : The $2^{nd}$ to $4^{th}$ digit length(2D : 4D) ratio reflects the amount of exposure and sensitivity to the prenatal sex hormone and it is considered to be the most convenient and useful way to understand the influence of sex hormone in the determination of human behavioral traits. This study was carried out to find the correlation between the 2D : 4D ratio and characteristics of temperament and character in Korean university students. We assumed that 2D : 4D ratio would show a strong correlation with temperament which is defined to be an inclination of an automatical emotional response to a stimulus. Methods : Participants were 104 university students who completed 2 self-report measures : Temperament and Character Inventory(TCI), Temperament Test. We examined the 2D : 4D ratio of each subject by measuring the lengths of the $2^{nd}$ and $4^{th}$ fingers using a photocopy measurement. We performed statistical analyses using correlation test and t-test to examine the relationship between 2D : 4D ratio and psychological characteristics. Results : We found out the typical sex difference in 2D : 4D ratio. Women had significantly higher 2D : 4D ratio than men. TCI-Character factor(TCI-C) didn't show any significant correlation with the 2D : 4D ratio. TCI-Tempterament factor(TCI-T) and the item of Temperament Test showed a significant correlation with the 2D : 4D ratio. In correlation analysis of the total group including all women and men, the 2D : 4D ratio showed a significant positive correlation in a subscale(shyness with stranger) of harm avoidance scales in TCI-T. In correlation analysis of women's group, the 2D : 4D ratio showed a significant positive correlation in two subscales( fear of uncertainty) and[shyness to stranger] of harm avoidance scales in TCI-T. In correlation analysis of men's group, the 2D : 4D ratio showed a significant negative correlation with a sanguine temperament item of the Temperament Test. Conclusion : The results suggest that the amount of exposure to sex hormone in the prenatal period seems to have an impact on the determination of temperament and characteristics.

  • PURPOSES : It is necessary to clarify the rheological properties of cement paste as a basic research in the development of mechanistic concrete mix design. The rheological properties of cement paste with different binder types, mix propositions, and with/without high range water reducers have been analyzed. METHODS : In this study, ordinary Portland cement, fly-ash, blast furnace slag, silica fume, and limestone powder were used as binders. The range of water-binder ratio was 0.3-0.5, and a total of 30 different mixes have been tested. The slump flow test, V-funnel test, and Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) test were performed to analyze the rheological properties of cement paste. RESULTS : As a result of the slump flow test, it was found that the composition ratio of the binder contents greatly affected the paste flow when the high range water reducers were added. The results of V-funnel test showed that when the water-binder ratio was decreased without high range water reducers, the binder composition ratio had a large effect on the passing time of the V-funnel tester, but with high range water reducers the impact of the binder composition ratio was decreased. The slump flow and V-funnel have a certain relationship with the rheological factors (yield stress and plastic viscosity), but the correlation was not significant. Finally, we proposed the M-value considering the density and specific surface area of the binder. The correlation between rheological factors and M-value were better demonstrated than experimental values, but there is still a limit to predict the rheological factor in general mix design. CONCLUSIONS :In this study, the rheological properties of cement paste were analyzed. The binder type, composition ratio of binder, and with/without high range water reducers have combined to provide the complex effects on the rheological properties of cement paste. The correlation between the proposed M-value and rheological factor was found to be better than experimental results, but needs to be improved in the future.

  • The present study is suggested to estimate the degree of secondary consolidation caused by various changes of stress such as loading, unloading and reloading in improving poor subsoil through pre-compression loading construction method and, for this purpose, examined the characteristics of the consolidation of Kunsan clay through incremental loading test (IL) using standard consolidation tester and constant loading rate test (CLR), which were adapted from the constant rate of strain test (CRS). In addition, after CRS test, this study determined the characteristics of secondary consolidation and relationships among void ratio, effective stress and time according to the ratio of effective over-consolidation on reloading at the point of time of random expansion. Kunsan clay had larger expansion and smaller secondary consolidation settlement when the ratio of effective over-consolidation was high. In addition, when loading was applied after the load was removed at once, the secondary consolidation coefficient $C'_{\alpha}$ was smaller than that when the load was removed gradually, and when the ratio of effective over-consolidation was over 1.4 a similar value was produced. Based on the entire settlement resulting from reloading, the secondary consolidation coefficient $C"_{\alpha}$ increased non-linearly with the lapse of time but the final value was similar to that in the case of rapid removal. The strain velocity of void ratio was in a regular linear relationship with the increase of loading time regardless of the ratio of effective over-consolidation in both tests and it grew smaller with the increase of the ratio of effective over-consolidation.tion.

  • Gamma generalized linear models are useful for non-negative and skewed responses. However, these models have received less attention than Poisson and binomial generalized linear models. In particular, hypothesis testing for the significance of regression coefficients has not been thoroughly studied. In this paper we assess the performance of various test statistics for gamma generalized linear models based on numerical studies. Our results show that the likelihood ratio test and F-type test are generally recommended and that the partial deviance test should be avoided in practice.

  • The purpose of this study was to establish the reliability and validity of the passive lumbar extension (PLE) test and prone instability test (PIT). Thirty-three subjects (14 males, 19 females) with lower back pain enrolled in the study and the subjects were divided into 2 groups (positive and negative instability groups) on the basis of radiographies of flexion and extension. Reliability was determined by the kappa coefficient and validity was examined using calculated sensitivity, specificity, and the likelihood ratio. The results showed that the reliability of the PLE test was higher than the PIT (intra-rater reliability: k=.86 and k=.81, interrater reliability: k=.65 and k=.62) and the validity of the PLE test was also higher than the PIT (sensitivity: 91% and 62%, specificity: 95% and 85% positive likelihood ratio: 20.00 and 4.10, negative likelihood ratio: .10 and .45). In conclusion, we think that the PLE test was a more reliable and valid method for lumbar instability than the PIT.

  • The combustion test used DTF was performed to obtain the characteristics of NOx emission and reduction. In this test, major factor of NOx emission was a stoichiometric air ratio. At the onset of combustion to be rich oxygen, NOx was produced rapidly. Optimum condition for NOx reduction was formed under about AR:0.7 in the combustion test of Alaska coal. Investigations were undertaken with 200KW(th) test combustor. In combustion test, the major variables were coal feed ratio of center/outer, stoichiometric air ratio at the onset of combustion. The lowest NOx emission, 182ppm(6% O2 base), was achieved at about AR:0.6 of the first combustion stage with low NOx burner. Also, unburned carbon content of char collected in this combustion condition was about 1wt%.
