  • This study evaluated the usefulness of the elasticity score and elasticity ratio in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant lesion in breast elastography. We performed a retrospective analysis based on the results of core needle biopsy histology. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to confirm the difference between the 5-degree elasticity score and the Fisher's Exact test. ROC curve analysis was used to determine the elasticity score and the best cut-off value of the elasticity ratio for the prediction of malignant lesions. There was a statistically significant difference (p= .000) between the homogeneity of the elasticity score and the difference of the elasticity ratio between the benign and malignant lesion groups. On the ROC curve analysis, the elasticity score and the elasticity ratio for predicting benign and malignant lesion were determined as AUC 0.806, 0.824, cut-off value 3, 4.4 (p= .001). Therefore, the elasticity score and elasticity ratio may be useful in the differential diagnosis of breast mass.

  • When the steel slag is utilized to the concrete as the alternative fine aggregate, its use is limited as the concrete aggregate because of expansibility caused by much quantity of free CaO. So, this study is intended to examine the characteristics of the concrete which uses the rapidly cooled steel slag whose content of free CaO is sharply reduced by rapidly cooling the steel slag as the fine aggregate. Accordingly, by comparing and considering the results of the concrete slump loss test with the different substitution ratio and fine aggregate ratio of rapidly cooled steel slag, hydration by XRD and SEM analysis, compressive test by age, a length variation test and rapid chloride ion penetration test, the rapidly cooled steel slag's proper substitution ratio and the fine aggregate ratio was derived.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide methods for assessment of functional balance through study of correlation with the weight bearing ratio, functional balance, and functional gait on patients with stroke. Methods: Thirty-nine patients with stroke participated in this study. The timed up and go test was used to measure balance and the functional ambulation category test to measure functional gait. Weight bearing was measured in the quiet standing posture and weight bearing in the quiet standing posture immediately after performing the standing-task. Results: Both timed up and go test and functional ambulation category test showed significant correlation with balance in the quiet standing posture immediately after performing the standing task. Conclusion: Measurement of balance in the quiet standing posture immediately after performing the standing-task was considered a meaningful scale for measurement of both balance function and gait function of patients with stroke.

  • This paper presents an experimental investigation examining water-cement ratio effects on fiber-matrix interface properties and on matrix fracture properties, which are used for designing mix proportion suitable for achieving strain-hardening behavior at a composite level. A single fiber pullout test and a wedge splitting test were employed to measure the bond properties in a matrix and the fracture toughness of mortar matrix, respectively. Test results showed that the properties tended to increase with decreasing water-cement ratio. Composite design using these test results will be discussed in the follow-up paper.

  • We have developed a current range extension method to obtain the ratio error and phase displacement of a current transformer (CT) by using absolute evaluation method and two different CTs. The method was applied to CTs under test with the current ratios in the range of 5,000 A / 1 A - 20,000 A / 1 A. The ratio error and phase displacement of the CT under test obtained in this study are consistent with those measured at the national institute in Germany using the same CT under test within an expanded uncertainty (k = 2) in the overall current ratios.

  • A generalized likelihood ratio test is developed to detect an outlier associated with monitoring nuclear proliferation. While the classical outlier detection methods consider continuous variables only, our approach allows both continuous and discrete variables or a mixture of continuous and discrete variables to be used. In addition, our method is free of the normality assumption, which is the key assumption in most of the classical methods. The proposed test is constructed by applying the bootstrap to a generalized likelihood ratio. We investigate the performance of the test by studying the power with simulations.

  • Sliding and impact/sliding wear test in room temperature air and water were performed to evaluate the effect of spring shapes on the wear mechanism of a fuel rod. The main focus was to quantitatively compare the wear behavior of a fuel rod with different support springs (i.e. two concaves, a convex and a flat shape) using a ratio of wear volume to worn area (De)-The results indicated that the wear volumes at each spring condition were varied with the change of test environment and loading type. However, the relationship between the wear volume and worn area was determined by only spring shape even though the wear tests were carried out at different test conditions. From the above results, the optimized spring shape which has more wear-resistant could be determined using the analysis results of the relation between the variation of De and worn surface observations in each test condition.

  • In this study, the base mixing ratio was determinated to estimate the optimal mixing ratio of material with a change of mixing ratio of micro cement, sand, foaming agent, plasticizer by testing the unconfined compressive strength test. The unconfined compressive strength test was performed to grasp a engineering characteristics of with a change of micro cement, bubble. The results of test, the unconfined compressive strength increased with a micro cement's increase and bubble's decrease. In the future, it will be secured that is reliable datas from laboratory of various condition and in-situ tests to develop optimal lightweight foamed concrete.

  • This study was performed to investigate the material behavior of hybrid thermoplastic composites contained glass fiber and calcium carbonate. The composite was prepared with each combination ratio of calcium carbonate, and the content of glass fiber was fixed with 10% by weight. In order to investigate the material behavior for various combination ratio, tension test, flexural test, and impact test were performed. Microscopic observation were conducted to examine the fractured surface of specimen for tension test. And the material behavior of the hybrid thermoplastic composite immersed in salt water with definite time was investigated.

  • With HAZ of A 106 Gr B steel weldment, fatigue test in air, electrochemical polarization test and corrosion fatigue test in 3.5wt.% NaCl solution were performed changing load ratio. Obtained results are as follows. 1) K$\sub$op/ was independent of K$\sub$max/ and load ratio in fatigue crack growth. 2) In variation of load ratio, the scatter band of crack growth curve was reduced by half considering crack closure 3) In the result of electrochemical polarization test, current density was increased abruptly when potential was larger than corrosion potential. 4) Fatigue crack growth rate in corrosive environment was markly higher than the rate in air because of corrosion characteristics of the material and anodization of inner surface crack.
