지하저수지(ASR) 유입수 전처리기법 개발: 물리적 폐색 저하 및 수량공급원활을 위한 2 단계 급속여과지 (Development of pre-treatment for the injection water into the aquifer storage and recovery(ASR) in Korea: The two-step rapid filter to reduce physical clogging and secure the volume of the injected water)

  • Two step rapid filter system as a pre-treatment for the injected water into aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) in Korea was developed to reduce physical blockage and secure the volume of the injected water. First, single rapid sand filters with three different media sizes (0.4~0.7, 0.7~1.0 and 1.0~1.4 mm) were tested. Only two sizes (0.4~0.7 and 0.7~1.0 mm) satisfied target turbidity, below 1.0 NTU. However, they showed the fast head loss. To prevent the fast head loss and secure the volume of the injected water, a rapid anthracite filter with roughing media size (2.0~3.4 mm) were installed before a single rapid sand filter. As results, both the target turbidity and reduction of head loss were achieved. It was determined that the media size for a rapid sand filter in two step rapid filter system (i.e. a rapid anthracite filter before a rapid sand filter) was 0.7~1.0 mm. In addition, the effects of coagulant doses on the removal of natural organic matter (NOM), which might cause a biological clogging, were preliminarily evaluated, and the values of $UV_{254}$, dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and SUVA were interpreted.

Characteristics of Bacterial Communities in Biological Filters of Full-Scale Drinking Water Treatment Plants

  • The taxonomic and functional characteristics of bacterial communities in the pre-chlorinated rapid filters and ozonated biological activated carbon (BAC) filters were compared using Illumina MiSeq sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene and community-level physiological profiling (CLPP) based on sole-carbon-source utilization patterns. Both the rapid filters and BAC filters were dominated by Rhizobiales within ${\alpha}-proteobacteria$, but other abundant orders and genera were significantly different in both types of filter. Firmicutes were abundant only in the intermediate chlorinated rapid filter, while Acidobacteria were abundant only in the BAC filters. Bacterial communities in the rapid filter showed high utilization of carbohydrates, while those in the BAC filters showed high utilization of polymers and carboxylic acids. These different characteristics of the bacterial communities could be related to the different substrates in the influents, filling materials, and residual disinfectants. Chlorination and ozonation inactivated the existing bacteria in the influent and formed different bacterial communities, which could be resistant to the oxidants and effectively utilize different substrates produced by the oxidant, including Phreatobacter in the rapid filters and Hyphomicrobium in the BAC filters. Bradyrhizobium and Leptothrix, which could utilize compounds adsorbed on the GAC, were abundant in the BAC filters. Ozonation increased taxonomic diversity but decreased functional diversity of the bacterial communities in the BAC filters. This study provides some new insights into the effects of oxidation processes and filling materials on the bacterial community structure in the biological filters of drinking water treatment plants.

Development of a Rapid PCR Test for Identification of Streptococcus agalactiae in Milk Samples Collected on Filter Paper Disks

  • Streptococcus (Strep.) agalactiae is one of the major pathogens of bovine mastitis and is the main cause of subclinical infection. This study attempted to develop a rapid PCR diagnosis procedure using milk samples collected on filter paper disks. Chromatographic filter paper was employed as the preservation media and kept at room temperature for one to four weeks. The revival rate of Strep. agalactiae kept on dried filter paper disks was affected by the pretreatment preservation time. The revival test suggested that not all the bacteria in artificially contaminated milk samples on the filter paper disks could be recovered. After that, a PCR based on the 16-23S intergenic spacer region of Strep agalactiae was performed. The results distinguished the strep. agalactiae from major pathogens of bovine mastitis at a $2{\times}10^2$ colony forming units (CFU)/ml level, which showed similar sensitivity to the results from liquid milk samples. The results also showed that milk samples collected on filter paper disks could be kept at room temperature for one to four weeks with little negative effect on sensitivity and specificity. The field test showed that the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity was 96.15% and 98.60%, respectively. In conclusion, the protocol will provide a rapid and economic procedure for the detection of bovine mastitis.

  • 본 연구는 급속여과지에 있어서 현탁물 부착모델에 관한 연구이다. 금회의 연구를 통하여 수정타원형 부착모델을 제안하여 실측치와 잘 일치하는 여과 저항식을 유도했다. 유도된 이 여과저항식은 금후 급속여과지 설계에 있어서 최적 높이 결정에 기여함으로써 경제적인 급속여과지를 설계하는데 중점을 두고 본 연구를 시행하였다.

Improvement of Dynamic Behavior of Shunt Active Power Filter Using Fuzzy Instantaneous Power Theory

  • Dynamic behavior of the harmonic detection part of an active power filter (APF) has an essential role in filter compensation performances during transient conditions. Instantaneous power (p-q) theory is extensively used to design harmonic detectors for active filters. Large overshoot of p-q theory method deteriorates filter response at a large and rapid load change. In this study the harmonic estimation of an APF during transient conditions for balanced three-phase nonlinear loads is conducted. A novel fuzzy instantaneous power (FIP) theory is proposed to improve conventional p-q theory dynamic performances during transient conditions to adapt automatically to any random and rapid nonlinear load change. Adding fuzzy rules in p-q theory improves the decomposition of the alternating current components of active and reactive power signals and develops correct reference during rapid and random current variation. Modifying p-q theory internal high-pass filter performance using fuzzy rules without any drawback is a prospect. In the simulated system using MATLAB/SIMULINK, the shunt active filter is connected to a rapidly time-varying nonlinear load. The harmonic detection parts of the shunt active filter are developed for FIP theory-based and p-q theory-based algorithms. The harmonic detector hardware is also developed using the TMS320F28335 digital signal processor and connected to a laboratory nonlinear load. The software is developed for FIP theory-based and p-q theory-based algorithms. The simulation and experimental tests results verify the ability of the new technique in harmonic detection of rapid changing nonlinear loads.

처리수 재이용을 위한 최종침전지 유출수의 급속여과공정 처리특성 (Treatment Characteristics of Rapid filtration Process treating Secondary Clarifier Effluent for Wastewater Reuse)

  • 하수 처리수의 재이용을 위하여 표준활성슬러지법에 의한 생물학적 처리 후 최종침전지 유출수를 급속여과공정으로 처리하기 위한 Pilot Plant 실험연구가 수행되었다. 또한, 활성슬러지와 연계된 급속여과공정과 포기조 후단에 응집제를 주입하는 활성슬러지 이후 급속여과 처리하는 공정과의 비교 실험도 행해졌다. 최종침전지 유출수를 급속여과공정으로 처리한 경우 여과속도는 100m/day, 여과지속시간은 40시간 이하로 운전하는 것이 타당한 것으로 나타났으며, 여과지의 역세척 주기는 여과속도 100m/day일 때 40시간에 1회 정도가 되었다. 여과지 역세척 시 역세척 방법은 공세 1분, 공세+수세 30초, 수세 1분, 공세·수세 2분, 수세 3분, 안정 30초, 배수 10분의 순으로 행하는 것이 효과적이었으며, 수세속도는 10LPM으로 전체 여과수량의 2%정도였다. 표준활성슬러지 시스템에 의한 2차 처리수를 잡용수로 재이용 하기 위해서는 폭기조 후단에 응집제를 첨가하여 여과 공정을 후속공정으로 하는 시스템으로 유용하게 사용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • This paper proposes parallel operation of multi function rapid-charger with an active power filter. Rapid-charger can be installed in public institutions or mart parking lot. But conventional charger has disadvantage that it can not be used as the active power filter in charging mode with only one charger. So using 3-parallel operation, effective mode transfer between battery charging and APF function can obtain effect of harmonic compensation and improving the utilization of the charger.

정수장 급속여과지 역세척 수위변화와 시간에 따른 세척 효율 평가 (Evaluation of a Rapid Sand Filter with Surface Wash and Backwash Conditions)

  • Both surface wash and backwash are considered as one of the most important methods that can improve the filtration efficiency in the existing water treatment plant. This study has mainly focused on the improvement of filtering efficiency by controlling surface wash and backwash time, and water level before backwash (when drained up to the trough, when drained up to 10 cm above filter bed, and when drained below 10 cm filter bed). Filtration efficiency was shown a little bit of differences depending on the operating conditions like surface wash injection pressure, the distance control between filter bed and the facility, and the types of surface wash. When the water level before backwash was reached up to 10 cm below filter bed after draining, however, the filtration velocity and the turbidity removal efficiency in the filter bed was improved. When the surface wash followed by backwash is longer, it showed a similar result. Because the proper adjustment of surface washing time makes filtration efficiency higher, therefore, it is necessary to set up the backwash time moderately.

접촉여과방식 거친여과지에서 혼화조건과 여과속도가 고탁도 제거에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Mixing Condition and Filtration Velocity on Turbidity Removal in a Contact Roughing Filter)

  • Slow sand filtrations have been widely used for water treatment in small communities, however their capacity is often limited by high turbidity in the raw water. For this reason, several pre-treatment facilities were required for a slow sand filter. Turbidity removal from the highly turbid raw water was investigated in roughing filters as a pre-treatment process. The roughing filters followed by rapid mixing tank were operated in the form of a contact filtration. In several jar tests, the predetermined optimum aluminium sulfate (alum) doses for turbid water of 30 and 120NTU were 30 and 50mg/L, respectively. At the optimum alum dose, physically optimum parameters including G value of $220sec^{-1}$ and rapid mixing time of 3 minutes were applied to the contact filtration system. Without addition of alum, the filtrate turbidity from the roughing filters, packed respectively with different media such as sand, porous diatomite ball and gravel, was in the range of 5~30NTU at filtration velocities of 30 and 50m/day. However, the application of a contact filtration to roughing filters showed stably lower filtrate turbidity below 1.0NTU at filtration velocity of 30 m/day. Although the filtration velocity increased to 50m/day, filtrate turbidity was still below 1.0NTU in both single and double layer roughing filters. At influent turbidity of 120NTU, the filtrate turbidity was over 5 NTU in the triple layer roughing filter, which shortened the filter run time. The flocs larger than $10{\mu}m$, formed in the rapid mixing tank, were almost captured through the roughing filter bed, while the almost flocs smaller than $10{\mu}m$ remained in filtrate.

급속여과공정에서의 여과보조제 사용에 따른 여과특성 (Characteristics of High-Rate Filtration with Filtration Aids)

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of filter aids in the dual-media rapid filtration. Paper-filter tests were conducted to determine the proper dosages of coagulant and filter aid, and pilot plant tests using two dual-media filter columns were performed for a variety of filtration rates. Using a filter aid (non-ionic polymer), the maximum feasible filtration rate is 480m/day, while turbidity is less than 0.3 NTU and filter run-time is about 70 hours. It is possible to increase the filtration rate up to 360 m/day for keeping the turbidity less than 0.1 NTU. Turbidity increases for the filtration rate greater than 360m/day. In general, the quality of filtered water with a filter aid is stable, while the filter maintains a sufficient filter run-time for a maximum allowable head loss. Particularly, the initial breakthrough can be effectively controlled. The use of a filter aid may be one of the methods applicable if the turbidity of filtered water is required to be improved or if the filter breakthrough limits filter run-time.
