  • Background and Objectives : A post-pubescent male classical singer has lower vocal register than a female classical singer. Countertenors who can produce higher vocal register like female classical singers with their falsetto voice and head resonance are recently active. The general purpose of this study is to analyze voice of countertenors and to determine the differences with those of classical singers. Materials and Methods : Four countertenors in Korea were examined using a videostrobos-copy and their voice were analyzed using aerodynamic, acoustic and voice range profile methods. Results and Conclusion : Countertenors could produce elevated fundamental frequency, voice intensity and mean air flow rate using large pulmonary capacity and head voiced falsetto. It means the presence of greater energy in countertenor is due to the more efficient conversion of the air flow to acoustic energy. But, they had unstable amplitude perturbation per each vocal cycle. The results indicated that countertenor is the acoustic products of different laryngeal mechanism with other classical register and it can be recognized as one of the registers of male classical singers.

  • The modem industrial society is developing while growing more diverse and gigantic. Accordingly, occupational injuries or accidents can be caused in various situations, not just in the limited range of workplaces but also in the surroundings, and interest has increased in the prevention of occupational accidents with respect to occupational health and safety, and environment. Thus, this thesis will consider 4MlE (Man, Machine, Method, Material, Environment) as the fundamental causes of accidents and introduce a model of system in which the output of the process control system is replaced by accidents with its input by 4M1E. Furthermore, it will demonstrate how occupational hazardousness can be measured, whereby it can also be rated, by examining the relationship between 4M1E and types of accident in terms of the categories of severity, frequency, and detectability, based on the application of the model to the framework of FMEA.

  • We should maintain the maximum operation capacity for production facilities and find properly out the fault of each equipment rapidly in order to decrease a loss caused by its failure. The acoustic signals of a machine always carry the dynamic information of the machine. These signals are very useful for the feature extraction and fault diagnosis. We performed a fundamental study which develops a system of fault diagnosis for a pump. We obtained noises by a microphone, analysed and compared the signals converted to Sequency range for normal products, artificially deformed products. We tried to search a change of noise signals according to machine malfunctions and analyse the type of deformation or failure. The results showed that acoustic signals as well as vibration signals can be used as a simple method for a detection of machine malfunction or fault diagnosis.

  • This paper presents an IHQRR (Integrated High Quality Rectifier Regulator) BIFRED (Boost Integrated Flyback Rectifier Energy Storage DC-DC) converter fed BLDC (Brushless DC) motor drive. A reduced sensor topology is derived by utilizing a BIFRED converter to operate in a dual DCM (Discontinuous Conduction Mode) thus utilizing a voltage follower approach for the PFC (Power Factor Correction) and voltage control. A new approach for speed control is proposed using a single voltage sensor. The speed of the BLDC motor drive is controlled by varying the DC link voltage of the front end converter. Moreover, fundamental frequency switching of the VSI's (Voltage Source Inverter) switches is used for the electronic commutation of the BLDC motor which reduces the switching losses in the VSI. The proposed drive is designed for a wide range of speed control with an improved power quality at the AC mains which falls within the recommended limits imposed by international power quality standards such as IEC 61000-3-2.

  • This study compares the pitch production of children using cochlear implants (CI) with that of children with normal hearing. Twenty subjects from six to eight years old participated in the study. Three kinds of sentences were read and analyzed using Visi-Pitch $\blacktriangleright$(KAY Elemetrics, Model 3300). There were no considerable differences between the two groups regarding pitch, mean fundamental frequency (F0) and pitch range. In the cases of the slope value of F0 and duration, however, there were significant differences. Thus, it is concluded that duration and pitch control can be crucial factors in determining the intonation treatment of the children with cochlear implants.

  • A high-speed wavelength swept laser, which is based on oscillation characteristics of a fiber Fabry-Perot tunable filter, is described. The laser is constructed by using a semiconductor optical amplifier, a fiber Fabry-Perot tunable filter, and 3.348 km fiber ring cavity. The wavelength sweeps are repeatatively generated with the repetition period of 61 kHz which is the first parallel oscillation frequency of the Fabry-Perot tunable filter for the low power consumption. Mode-locking is implemented by 3.348 km fiber ring cavity for matching the fundamental of cavity roundtrip time to the sweep period. The wavelength tuning range of the laser is 87 nm(FWHM) and the average output power is 1.284 mW.

  • This proposed paper aims for the high efficiency contactless power transfer in household dc power distribution. A 300 W five-level diode clamped multi-level converter with 300 Vdc input dc link bus is employed for the power transferring task and the output voltage range is controlled at 48 Vdc. The inner and outer solenoid coils are used for inductive power transfer (IPT) transformer with the 200 kHz switching frequency for designed power density. Therefore, to achieve the converter efficiency above 95%, the LLC series resonant with fundamental harmonic analysis (FHA) and the calculated switching angles are used as an optimized tool for designing the system resonant tank. The validations of this approached topology are illustrated in both MATLAB/Simulink simulation and implementation.

  • The problem is formulated by applying the Kirchhoff's conception for shell theory. The longitudinal modal displacement functions are assessed by characteristic beam ones meet clamped-clamped end conditions applied at the shell edges. The fundamental natural frequency of rotating functionally graded cylindrical shells of different parameter versus ratios of length-to-diameter and height-to-diameter for a wide range has been reported and investigated through the study with fractions laws. The frequency first increases and gain maximum value with the increase of circumferential wave mode. By increasing different value of height-to-radius ratio, the resulting backward and forward frequencies increase and frequencies decrease on increasing height-to-radius ratio. Moreover, on increasing the rotating speed, the backward frequencies increases and forward frequencies decreases. The trigonometric frequencies are lower than that of exponential and polynomial frequencies. Stability of a cylindrical shell depends highly on these aspects of material. More the shell material sustains a load due to physical situations, the more the shell is stable. Any predicted fatigue due to burden of vibrations is evaded by estimating their dynamical aspects.

  • It is well-known that analogizing a dynamic system to an equivalent circuit is a powerful tool on the analysis of the system. In this paper, an equivalent circuit of the piano has been constructed by the structural and acoustical analysis to visualize the sounding mechanism. Utilizing the mechanical reactance curve of the soundboard, a new method of reducing che inharmonicity in low frequency range has been built. With this method, by only choosing the proper excitation point on the soundboard, it will be possible to minimize the inharmonicity and thus to obtain mellow bass tone. It is shown that the missing fundamental in the lowest scale range results predominatly from the fact that the radiation impedance in such low frequencies is nearly pure reactive.

  • We propose rectangular type spiral coils with folded comers for the applications to low frequency guided wave magnetostrictive transducers and describe a method for making the proposed coils from insulated electrical wire such as enameled copper wire. Expressions for the electrical properties of the coils are also presented and compared with experimental measurements. An overlapped-2-channel folded-comer spiral-coil array is fabricated and applied to a magnetostrictive strip transducer generating and detecting fundamental torsional mode guided waves. From the results we conclude that the design and fabrication method make it possible to use the magnetostrictive transducers optimized for various guided wave applications and also will greatly help engineers gain easy access to the optimized transducers.
