  • 거리 기반의 이동성 관리 방식은 무선 네트워크 연구 분야에서 주요한 주제로 고려되었다. 적당한 이동성 모델로 수학적으로 분석하기 위한 많은 연구가 진행되었다. 특히 양방향의 랜덤 워크 모델은 단순성의 장점으로 인하여 많이 활용되었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 정확한 수식에 의한 분석은 지금까지 아직 이루어지지 못하였다. 본 고에서 우리는 양방향 랜덤 워크모델에 관한 정확한 수식을 제공한다. 이러한 수학적 모델은 거리 기반의 이동성 관리 방식에 관한 연구에 많은 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

Picocell 시스템의 보행자 통화량 모델링 및 분석 (Traffic Modeling and Analysis for Pedestrians in Picocell Systems Using Random Walk Model)

  • Traffic performance in a microcellular system is much more affected by cell dwell time and channel holding time in each cell. Cell dwell time of a call is characterized by its mobility pattern, i.e., stochastic changes of moving speed and direction. Cell dwell time provides important information for other analyses on traffic performance such as channel holding time, handover rate, and the average number of handovers per call. In the next generation mobile communication system, the cell size is expected to be much smaller than that of current one to accommodate the increase of user demand and to achieve high bandwidth utilization. As the cell size gets small, traffic performance is much more affected by variable mobility of users, especially by that of pedestrians. In previous work, analytical models are based on simple probability models. They provide sufficient accuracy in a simple second-generation cellular system. However, the role of them is becoming invalid in a picocellular environment where there are rapid change of network traffic conditions and highly random mobility of pedestrians. Unlike in previous work, we propose an improved probability model evolved from so-called Random walk model in order to mathematically formulate variable mobility of pedestrians and analyze the traffic performance. With our model, we can figure out variable characteristics of pedestrian mobility with stochastic correlation. The above-mentioned traffic performance measures are analyzed using our model.

  • An efficient mobility management for mobile stations plays an important role in mobile communication network. Two basic operations of mobility management are location registration and paging. A zone-based registration (ZBR) is implemented in most of mobile communication systems and we consider the mobility management scheme that combines a zone-based registration and a selective paging (SP). We propose new analytical model that can reflect on the characteristics of the ZBR based on 2-dimensional random walk mobility model and more efficient paging schemes considering the proposed model. We evaluate the performance of the mobility management scheme with our mobility model to determine the optimal size of location area that will result in the minimum signaling traffic on radio channels. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate that our mobility model is useful to evaluate the ZBR more exactly.

This paper studies the mobility management scheme that combines a distance-based registration(DBR) and a selective paging (SP). We introduce an analytical model based on 2-dimensional random walk mobility model and evaluate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme using the model to determine the optimal size of location area that results in the minimum signaling traffic on radio channels. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme under various circumstances. These results can be used effectively in design and evaluation of registration methods considering the system circumstances.

  • 본 논문에서는 MANET (Mobile Ad hoc Network)를 위한 가장 대표적인 라우팅 프로토콜인 AODV (Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector)와 OLSR (Optimized Link State Routing)의 성능을 노드 이동성 모델에 따라 분석한다. 노드의 이동성은 망 토폴로지의 변화를 일으키므로 라우팅 프로토콜의 성능에 많은 영향을 미친다. 따라서, MANET 라우팅 프로토콜의 성능을 정확하게 평가하기 위해서는 노드의 이동 패턴에 가장 적합한 이동성 모델을 사용하는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 기존 MANET 라우팅 프로토콜 성능분석에 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 random way point 모델과 최근에 실제 인간의 이동 패턴과 가창 유사하다고 발표된 Levy walk 모델을 기반으로 AODV와 OLSR의 성능을 ns-2 시뮬레이션을 통해 비교 분석한다.

Analytical Approach of New Random-walk Based Mobility Management Scheme in IP-based Mobile Networks

  • In next-generation wireless networks, provisioning of IP-based network architecture and seamless transmission services are very important issues for mobile nodes. For this reason, a mobility management mechanism to support global roaming is highly regarded. These technologies bring a broader life by using a global roaming account through the connection of multiple devices or technology to mobile users; they also provide real-time multimedia services. This paper presents a comprehensive performance analysis of fast handover for hierarchical mobile IPv6 (F-HMIPv6), hierarchical mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6), Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6), and fast Proxy Mobile IPv6 (FPMIPv6) using the fluid-flow model and random-walk model. As a result, the location update cost of the PMIPv6 and FPMIPv6 is better than that of HMIPv6 and F-HMIPv6. These results suggest that the network-based mobility management technology is superior to the hierarchical mobility management technology in the mobility environment.

  • Conventional simulations for mobile ad hoc network so far are based on the "random walk" of the mobile nodes, which are not constrained by their surrounding spatial environments. In this paper, we present a geography-based mobility model, which reflects more realistic movements of the real world. This mobility model is used for performance evaluation of MANET routing protocols.protocols.

  • An efficient mobility management for mobile stations plays an important role in mobile communication network. In this study, we consider movement-based registration(MBR) and distance-based registration(DBR). Analytical models based on 2-dimensional random walk in hexagonal cell configuration are considered to analyze the performance of MBR and DBR. Especially, we focus on the derivation of the registration cost of DBR scheme by using two analytical methods and then show that DBR always outperforms MBR. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate optimal condition under various circumstances.

  • An efficient mobility management for mobile stations plays an important role in mobile communication networks. Even though many a mobility management schemes have been proposed, most of mobile communication networks adopt the mobility scheme based on zone-based registration. This paper studies the mobility management scheme that combines zone-based registration and 2-step selective paging. We assume cell by cell registration area, not ring by ring registration area of previous studies, and set up a new mobility model based on 2-dimensional random walk model considering the characteristic of zone-based registration to evaluate its performance exactly. We provide numerical results using proposed model to demonstrate the performance of zone-based registration and 2-step selective paging under various circumstances.
