Intra coding is an indispensable coding tool since it can provide random accessibility as well as error resiliency. However, it is the problem that intra coding has relatively low coding efficiency compared with inter coding in the area of video coding. Even though H.264/AVC has significantly improved the intra coding performance compared with previous video standards, H.264/AVC encoder complexity is significantly increased, which is not suitable for low bit rate interactive services. In this paper, a Voting-based Intra Mode Bit Skip (V-IMBS) scheme is proposed to improve coding efficiency as well as to reduce encoding time complexity using decoder-side prediction. In case that the decoder can determine the same prediction mode as what is chosen by the encoder, the encoder does not send that intra prediction mode; otherwise, the conventional H.264/AVC intra coding is performed. Simulation results reveal a performance increase up to 4.44% overall rate savings and 0.24 dB in peak signal-to-noise ratio while the frame encoding speed of proposed method is about 42.8% better than that of H.264/AVC.
The Joint Exploration Model (JEM), which is a reference SW codec of the Joint Video Exploration Team (JVET) exploring the future video standard technology, provides a recursive Quadtree plus Binary Tree (QTBT) block structure. QTBT can achieve enhanced coding efficiency by adding new block structures at the expense of largely increased computational complexity. In this paper, we propose a fast decision algorithm of QTBT block partitioning depth that uses the rate-distortion (RD) cost of the upper and current depth to reduce the complexity of the JEM encoder. Experimental results showed that the computational complexity of JEM 5.0 can be reduced up to 21.6% and 11.0% with BD-rate increase of 0.7% and 1.2% in AI (All Intra) and RA (Random Access), respectively.

Objectives: Nail salon owners in New York City (NYC) are required to provide their workers with gloves and it is their responsibility to maintain healthy, safe working spaces for their employees. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency with which nail salon workers wear protective gloves. Methods: A Freedom of Information Law request was submitted to New York Department of State's Division of Licensing Services for a full list of nail salons in Manhattan, NYC. A sample population of 800 nail salons was identified and a simple random sample (without replacement) of 30% (n=240) was selected using a random number generator. Researchers visited each nail salon from October to December of 2015, posing as a potential customer to determine if nail salon workers were wearing gloves. Results: Among the 169 salons in which one or more workers was observed providng services, a total of 562 workers were observed. For 149 salons, in which one or more worker was observed providing services, none of the workers were wearing gloves. In contrast, in six of the salons observed, in which one or more workers was providing services, all of the workers (1 in 2 sites, 2 in 1 site, 3 in 2 sites, and 4 in 1 site) were wearing gloves. Almost three-quarters of the total number of workers observed (n=415, 73.8%) were not wearing gloves. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that, despite recent media attention and legislation, the majority of nail salon workers we observed were not wearing protective gloves when providing services.
A digital watermarking is a newly developed scheme to embed invisible or inaudible information Into the host data in order to insist the copyright of the owner or the creator. This paper describes a robust data embedding scheme that employs inner product and adaptive quantization. Compared to the previous works for digital watermarking, our proposed scheme can embed relatively large amount of Information, since a secrete key Is not directly relaxed to the watermark data. A secret key is used for the design of random direction vectors. which are taken Inner product with the DCT transformed feature set data. In odder to achieve robustness against malicious attacks. we exploit the Properties of human visual system In designing the random direction vectors which behave as embedded noises. Experimental results show that we can recover the embedded information without utilizing the original host data. We also demonstrate that the ownership assertion is possible even though The watermarked data may undergo common signal processing operations, such as JPEG compression. clopping. and filtering.
Stitching algorithm obtain a descriptor of the feature points extracted from multiple images, and create a single image through the matching process between the each of the feature points. In this paper, a feature extraction and matching techniques for the creation of a high-speed panorama using video input is proposed. Features from Accelerated Segment Test(FAST) is used for the feature extraction at high speed. A new feature point matching process, different from the conventional method is proposed. In the matching process, by tracking region containing the feature point through the Mean shift vector required for matching is obtained. Obtained vector is used to match the extracted feature points. In order to remove the outlier, the RANdom Sample Consensus(RANSAC) method is used. By obtaining a homography transformation matrix of the two input images, a single panoramic image is generated. Through experimental results, we show that the proposed algorithm improve of speed panoramic image generation compared to than the existing method.
For the emerging High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard, a fast transform unit (TU) decision method is proposed. HEVC defines the TU representing a region sharing the same transformation, and it allows a residual block to be split into multiple TUs recursively to form a quadtree. By using the quadtree of TUs, HEVC supports various transform sizes from $4{\times}4$ to $32{\times}32$. The various sizes of TUs can provide a good coding efficiency, whereas this may increase encoding complexity dramatically. In the assumption that a TU with highly compacted energy is unlikely to be split, the proposed method determines TU sizes according to the position of the last non-zero transform coefficient. In the experimental results, the proposed method reduced 18% encoding run time with the negligible coding loss of 0.7% BD-rate for the Random_access case.
Due to the convergence of broadcasting and communications, IPTV services are spotlighted as the that next-generation multimedia services. IPTV services should have functionality such as unlimited channel capacity, extension of media, QoS awareness and are required increasing traffic and quality control technology to adapt the attributes of IPTV service. Consequently, flow based quality control techniques are needed. Therefore, many studies for providing Internet QoS are performed at IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). As the buffer management mechanism among IP QoS methods, active queue management method such as RED(Random Early Detection) and modified RED algorithms have proposed. However, these algorithms have difficulties to satisfy the requirements of various Internet user QoS. Therefore, in this paper we propose the Flow based AQM(Active Queue Management) algorithm for the multimedia services that request various QoS requirements. The proposed algorithm can converge the packet loss ratio to the target packet loss ratio of required QoS requirements. And we present a performance evaluation by the simulations using the ns-2.
Contour artifact is known as the unintentional result of quantizing a flat area that has smooth gradients. In this letter, a decontouring algorithm is proposed to efficiently remove false contours that occur in typical block-based video coding applications. First, the algorithm goes through a refinement stage to determine candidate blocks probably having noticeable false contours with different kinds of features in a block. Then, pseudo-random noise masking is applied to those blocks to mitigate the contour artifacts. This block-based selective decontouring can efficiently remove the unnecessary processing of those blocks that have no false contour, which incidentally ensures a minor penalty in visual quality and computational complexity. The proposed algorithm was demonstrated, integrated into H.264/AVC, that visual quality can be significantly enhanced with an ignorable rate-distortion (RD) loss and an minor increase in computational complexity.

Online customer evaluations and social media information among a variety of information sources are critical for businesses as it influences the customer's decision making. There are limitations on the time and money that the survey will ask to identify a variety of customers' needs and complaints. The customer review data at online shopping malls provide the ideal data sources for analyzing customer sentiment about their products. In this study, we collected product reviews data on the smartphone of Samsung and Apple from Amazon. We applied five classification algorithms which are used as representative sentiment analysis techniques in previous studies. The five algorithms are based on support vector machines, bagging, random forest, classification or regression tree and maximum entropy. In this study, we proposed entropy score which can comprehensively evaluate the performance of classification algorithm. As a result of evaluating five algorithms using an entropy score, the SVMs algorithm's entropy score was ranked highest.
Nowadays, the issue of congestion control in high-speed communication networks becomes critical in view of the bandwidth-delay products for efficient data flow. In particular, the fact that the congestion is often accompanied by the data flow from the high-speed link to low-speed link is important with respect to the stability of closed-loop congestion control. The Virtual-Connection Network (VCN) in Gigabit Ethernet networks is a packet-switching based network capable of implementing cell- based connection, link-by-link flow-controlled connection, and single- or multi-destination virtual connections. VCN described herein differ from the virtual channel in ATM literature in that VCN have link-by-link flow control and can be of multi-destination. VCNs support both connection-oriented and connectionless data link layer traffic. Therefore, the worst collision scenario in Ethernet CSMA/CD with virtual collision brings about end-to-end delay. Gigabit Ethernet networks based on CSMA/CD results in non-deterministic behavior because its media access rules are based on random probability. Hence, it is difficult to obtain any sound mathematical formulation for congestion control without employing random processes or fluid-flow models. In this paper, an analytical method for the design of a congestion control scheme is proposed based on Smith's principle to overcome instability accompanied with the increase of end-to-end delays as well as to avoid cell losses. To this end, mathematical analysis is provided such that the proposed control scheme guarantees the performance improvement with respect to bandwidth and latency for selected network links with different propagation delays. In addition, guaranteed bandwidth is to be implemented by allowing individual stations to burst several frames at a time without intervening round-trip idle time.
