Water Soluble Ionic Components in Precipitation at ChungNam West-Coast Area (충남 서해안지역 강수 중 수용성 이온 성분의 변화특성)

  • This study was compared each ingredient's local/seasonal change characteristics by analyzing anions and cations, watersoluble ionic components, from the precipitation of Dangjin and Anmyeon-do areas. The samples were collected for 8 months from both spots between the period of April 1, 2002 to November 31, 2002. The precipitation samples were collected continuously through the entire duration of precipitation by using the wet-only automatic samplers. When rain continues to fall over 24 hours or occasionally, we considered those collected from 9 o'clock in the morning for 24 hours as the day's samples. As a method to verify for the reliability of the analyzed data is concerned, we use the ion balance method and the electricity conductance method, was used widely as a way of watching the atmosphere by the WMO(World Meteorological Organization)/GAW (Global Atmosphere Watch). Also, Dangjin and Anmyun-do area confirmed that contains artificial pollutants by analysis of ion concentration data.

Development of Moisture Loss Index Based on Field Moisture Measurement using Portable Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR) for Cold In-place Recycled Pavements (휴대용 TDR 함수량계로 측정한 현장 함수비를 이용한 현장 상온 재활용 아스팔트 포장의 수분 감소계수 개발)

  • The practice of asphalt pavement recycling has grown rapidly over the decade, one of which is the cold in-place recycling with the foamed asphalt (CIR-foam) or the emulsified asphalt (CIR-emulsion). Particularly, in Iowa, the CIR has been widely used in rehabilitating the rural highways because it significantly increases the service life of the existing pavement. The CIR layer is typically overlaid by the hot mix asphalt (HMA) to protect it from water ingress and traffic load and obtain the required pavement structure and texture. Most public agencies have different curing requirements based on the number of curing days or the maximum moisture contents for the CIR before placing the overlay. The main objective of this study is to develop a moisture loss index that the public agency can use to monitor the moisture content of CIR layers in preparation for a timely placement of the wearing surface. First, the moisture contents were measured in the field using a portable time domain reflectometry (TDR) device. Second, the weather information in terms of rain fall, air temperature, humidity and wind speed was collected from the same location. Finally, a moisture loss index was developed as a function of initial moisture content, air temperature, humidity and wind speed. The developed moisture loss index based on the field measurements would help the public agency to determine an optimum timing of an overlay placement without continually measuring moisture conditions in the field.

Effect of Sub-soil Drip Irrigation and Fertigation on Mulberry Yield (뽕밭 지하점적관수 및 관비에 의한 생산성 향상에 관한 연구)

  • To study the effects of irrigation on the mulberry, 3 experiments were conducted. In experiment 1, four treatments, conventional (no irregation), drip irrigation, fertigation and fertigation with 20% extra fertilizer were examined. Irrigation hose was hurried at 20cm depth under the surface (Experiment 1). Water potential was controled at 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 and 1.0 bar to understand the optimum irrigation potential under rain-block system with plastic film hose(experiment 2). Five leading mulberry varieties, Cheongilppong, Youngcheonppong, Suseongppong, Kaeryangppong and Shinilppong were examined for irrigation response(experiment 3). Fertigation and fertigation with extra fefilizer increased yield by 22%, repectively compared with conventional. Irrigation increased by 8%, but with no significance statistically compared with the conventional. Irrigation, especially fertigation increased water content, P$_2$O$_{5}$, $K_2$O and CaO in leaves, suggested improving leaf quality in fall. Fertigation increased available P$_2$O$_{5}$ content in the sub-soil. More root distribution showed at the sub-soil in fertigation. Weed did not occured in fertigation due to sub-soil fertilization, whereas the conventional received surface fertilization showed 931kg/10 a weed in fresh weight. No effect showed at the 20% extra fertilizer than the conventional amount Maximun yield showed at the 0.5 bar water potential. Irrigation increased yield by 22-25% with Cheongilppong and Yongcheonppong, and by 9-13% with Suseongppong, Shinilppong and Kaeryangppong.

Analysis on the Change of Regional Vulnerability to Flood (홍수피해에 따른 지역적 취약성 변화 분석)

  • Recently, the damage by fresh flood increases in Gangwon-do and Gyeongsangbuk-do of the north-eastern area of Korea. Even though the recent pattern of rain fall keeps changing, there is no strategy to mitigate damage by disaster. For the appropriate measure and policy for decreasing damage, an index for vulnerability is necessary to provide evidence of local climate change. The present work analyzes the flooding damage cost during the past 20 years. During 80's, the southern area of Korea was seriously damaged by over-floods on the agricultural ground. After that time, the loss and damage has decreased in the southern area but the middle part has shown slight but distinct increases of damage. The absolute coast of damage in the northern part has kept constant. However, the relative regional damage to the total country damage has kept increasing over 20 years in the same area. The surface area of floods is strongly correlated with the regional damage cost in the southern part but the north-eastern part has weak correlation between flooded area and cost. It implies that the recent damage in the north-eastern mountain area was not caused by flood itself but the other factors such as avalanches. The present work expects that the damage cost can be a good proxy value for index for climate change impact assessment.

A Study on Suitability of Training Facilities and Equipment used on Seafarer's Sea Survival Training (선원 해상생존교육 실습시설 및 장비의 적정성에 관한 연구)

  • Seafarer sea survival training, such as basic safety refresher training and advanced safety refresher training, in accordance with the STCW Convention, is an indispensable program that can increase the crew survival rate during emergency situations at sea. It is important for crew members to carry out theoretical and practical training with various safety equipment in order to effectively train according to IMO model courses. Therefore, this study suggests the following measures to improve safety training facilities for seafarers by reviewing survival training requirements based on the IMO model course and comparing and analyzing related facilities based on operating cases from domestic and overseas training institutes. First, it is necessary to establish a training environment where seafarers can practice utilizing various, updated safety equipment such as marine evacuation equipment (slides, chutes, etc.). Second, it is necessary to construct an educational environment in which learners can directly or indirectly experience realistic emergency situations by installing marine environment simulation facilities with such equipment as a wave generator, rain fall device, wind generating device, etc. Third, it is also necessary to develop and expand customized training using virtual reality equipment in addition to experiential training, audiovisual training and simulation training.

On the Organechlorine Pesticide Residues in Downstream Area of Nakdong River (낙동강(洛東江) 하류지역(下流地域)에 있어서 유기염소계(有機鹽素系) 살충제(殺蟲劑) 농약(農藥)의 잔류평가(殘留評價))

  • Samples (river water, tap water, soil, sediment, fish and shellfish) collected in Downstream Area of Nakdong River were analyzed for organochlorine pesticides by G.C. equipped with electron capture detector. Residue levels of organochlorine pesticides in the river water and tap water ranged from less than detection limit (ND) to 56ppt. Total BHC concentration in the river water and tap water were found to increase in summer and decrease in winter. The variation appeared to be related to rain fall. ${\alpha}-BHC\;and\;{\beta}-BHC$ concentration in the soil were ND-3.3ppb and ND-769.7ppb, respectively. ${\alpha}-BHC\;and\;{\beta}-BHC$ concentration in the sediment were ND-2.0ppb and ND-409.9ppb, respectively. Concentration factor of total BHC in the sediment ranged from 83 to 3213. In fish, Carasssus carassius and shellfish, Anodonta woodiana(Lea) the concentration factor of ${\beta}-BHC$ and total BHC were 2,609, 435 and 3,261, 375, respectively.

Frequency Runoff Analysis by Storm Type using GIS and NRCS Method (GIS와 NRCS방법을 이용한 호우형태에 따른 빈도별 유출 분석)

  • Rainfall-runoff process is under the control of hydrologic parameters having temporal and spatial variety. Accordingly, it is difficult to efficiently deal them since many parameters and various information are required to perform hydrologic simulation. So the purposes of this study is to estimate the runoff volume by frequency using GIS techniques and NRCS method. The analysis of frequency rainfall is analyzed using FARD 2002 program and the result of goodness of fit test show that Log-pearson type III is suitable distribute type for the applied area. TOPAZ program used for the analysis of DEM data examining into geological characteristic. NRCS curve numbers estimated using landuse map and soil map for the estimation of effective rain fall in the basin. The storm Type II and Type III were used as the type for the application of NRCS. The result of application show that the runoff volumes above 80 years frequency in return period have similar patterns regardless of Type II and Type III. In addition, the results of comparison with runoff volumes by frequency in the report of river improvement master plan show that it have similar volumes as the relative errors for them of 80, 100 years frequency are each 7.65%, 5.33%.

Effects of sowing time and quantity on naked oat (Avena sativa L.) in South Korea

  • This study was conducted to evaluated the effects of different sowing time(October 22, February 20, March 3, March 13, and March 23) and sowing quantities(150kg/ha, 200kg/ha, 250kg/ha, and 300kg/ha) on growth of naked oat(Avena sativa L.) cultivar(Choyang-Gwiri) at a cultivation area in Iksan, south Korea. Heading times were delayed with later sowing times. In autumn seeding(Oct. 22) the ear was headed at April 30, in spring seeding(Feb. 20, Mar. 3, Mar. 13, and Mar. 23) heading times were respectively May 14, May 14, May 15, and May 19. Heading time of spring seeding was delayed about 3 weeks than autumn seeding. Ripening times were similar trends to the heading times. In autumn seeding ears were ripened at June 7, in spring seeding each times were respectively Jun. 15, Jun. 13, Jun. 20, and Jun. 20. Ripening time of spring seeding was delayed about 2 weeks than autumn seeding. Culm length and ear length were shortened in spring seeding, but number of plants per $m^2$ were increased. Number of grains per a ear were 106 in autumn seeding, but grains per a ear in spring seeding were respectively 88, 83, 83, and 73. Weight of 1,000 grains in spring seeding was heavier than that in autumn seeding, the weights were tend to light as later seeding times. Yield of grains was declined as later seeding times, yield of in autumn seeding was 2,900kg/ha, whereas that in spring seeding was 2,180kg/ha. The highest yield of spring seeding time was in Mar. 13, before this seeding time soil surfaces were severely dried as few rain fall, so germination was poor in those seeding times. As several seeding quantities were seeding, earing and ripening times were not different. but increasing seeding quantity, culm length was lengthened and ear length was shortened, number of plants per $m^2$ were increased and grains per a ear were reduced. Yield of grains were increased more seeding quantities, yield was highest up to 250kg/ha seeding quantity.

Studies on establishment rate of direct seeded rice in relay intercropping system

  • Relay intercropping system of direct seeded rice and winter cereal is labor saving cultivation and has high land use efficiency in Japan. In this system, rice seeds are direct seeded into inter-row space of winter cereals (wheat or barley) in March or April. If the direct seeding of rice is conducted before stem elongation phase or using suitable seeder, these are little effect to yield of winter cereals. Though the seeds are generally thiuram treated, it's a matter that seedling establishment rate (SER) of direct seeded rice is low and unstable. The cause of low SER has not been revealed. In present study, with the aim to reveal causes of low SER, we conducted experiments and investigated the SER, and analyzed some factors that might affect SER. Experiment1: In 2015, 2016, we buried rice seeds underground, and investigated the transition of the seed survival rates (SSR). Seeds were thiuram-treated or non-treated. In 2 periods, SSR of thiuram-treated seeds were significantly higher than non-treated seeds. In 2016, thiuram-treated seeds were high in SSR (almost 75%) at April 30th, but low SER (10~27%) after harvest of winter cereals. Therefore, almost all of seed death might have been happen after germination. Analysis 1: We investigated the SER and cultivation conditions in Ibaraki pref. for several years. Meteorological factors were referred from the nearest point of AMeDAS. From mean temperature (MT) among 5days after and before the day, we divided the period of seeding ~June 20 to phase1~4. We defined each phase as below; Phase1: $MT{\leq}10^{\circ}C$, Phase2: $10^{\circ}C<MT{\leq}15^{\circ}C$, Phase3:$15^{\circ}C<MT{\leq}20^{\circ}C$, Phase4: $MT>20^{\circ}C$. We analyzed the correlation of SER and meteorological factors by each phase. Total number of days in phase 1~4 was significantly negative correlated with SER. In phase1, total rain fall and number of soil wetting days were significantly negative correlated with SER. In phase2~4, only MT was significantly positive correlated with SER. This result suggested that rainfalls in phase1 declined seed vigor to emergence from soil surface, by repeated water absorption and re-dry. From these present studies, it was suggested that one of factors of low SER of direct seeded rice in relay intercropping system is changing of water condition by rainfalls in phase1 ($MT{\leq}10^{\circ}C$). To improve SER, it's necessary to consider something seed treatments such as prevent water absorption during phase1. However, 58~60% of seeds seemed to die during May. It's suggested that, if seeds are thiuram treated, almost all of seeds can germinate underground, but the seed vigor to emergence from soil surface are insufficient. Further studies are needed to reveal the rest causes that is happening during emergence from soil surface.

Characterization of Annual PM2.5 and PM10 Concentrations by Real-time Measurements in Cheonan, Chungnam (실시간 측정을 통한 천안시 대기 중 연간 PM2.5, PM10 농도 특성 조사)

  • From 2015, PM2.5 standards will be added to Korean national ambient air quality standards. To characterize PM2.5 levels in Cheonan, annual PM2.5 concentrations along with PM10 concentrations were investigated between February 2010 and January 2011 using a dust monitor. The annual PM2.5 concentration was $40.45{\mu}g/m^3$ and over the standards($25{\mu}g/m^3$). The daily average PM2.5 concentrations ranged from 2.43 to $178.84{\mu}g/m^3$, and 26% days exceeded the daily PM2.5 standard($50{\mu}g/m^3$). During the same periods, only 11% days exceeded the daily PM10 standard, showing that PM2.5 were more concerning levels than PM10. Seasonal variations showed the highest concentrations in spring and winter, and lowest concentration in summer due to heavy rain fall. Changes in PM2.5 concentrations during the day were remarkable and showed the highest concentrations in commuting periods. The results indicated that the concentrations of PM2.5 in Cheonan were at the concerning level, and mainly from the mobile sources.
