Long-term Settlement Prediction of Railway Concrete Track Based on Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) (순환신경망을 활용한 콘크리트궤도의 장기 침하 거동 예측)

  • The railway concrete track has been increasingly adopted for high-speed train such as KTX due to its high running stability, improved ride quality for the passengers, and low maintenance cost. However, excessive settlement of the railway concrete track has been monitored at embankment sections of the ◯◯ High-speed Line, resulting in the concerns on the safety of railway operation. In order to establish an effective maintenance plan for the concrete track railway exceeding the allowable residual settlement, it is essential to reasonably predict their long-term settlement behavior during the public period. In this study, we developed a model for predicting the long-term settlement behavior of concrete track using recurrent neural network (RNN) and examined the applicability of the developed model.

  • Railway is compsed in various components, such as subgrade, track bed, sleeper, rail, and overhead line, on a linear space. Therefore, comprehensive work for various design standards and guidelines is required when designing a railway facility. For this reason, much time and effort are required to review the relevant design standards and guidelines. While, automatic legal check system for BIM models has been developed in the architectural engineering, it has not been developed in the railway engineering. This study reviews the korean design standard and the korean code for railway engineering, and suggests some rule items of logical information. Comparing the suggested rule items to the railway BIM library, items of logical information and additional attribute information are obtained. The analysis results of railway design standards and BIM library presented in this study would be utilized for defining rule-set items that is essential for development of the automatic legal check system for railway BIM models.

  • Track geometry changes by traffic loads. The bigger the changes are, the worse the riding comfort and running stability of train. This is so-called track irregularity and is the most important quality parameters of ballasted track. To objectively assess track irregularity, track geometry should be able to be measured. Practically, railway companies in Korea use various track recording equipments to measure track irregularity. But this various equipments output different data due to their geometrical structure even measured at same location. In this report, the correlation of various track recording data used in Korea was reviewed.

  • Impact factor of concrete and ballast track which has been used in Korea railway was applied to equation (1+0.513V/100) from AREA. As the use of this equation, overcapacity of track design might be occurred. Therefore, this study compared impact of ballast track (well, bad) and concrete track (sleeper embeded system, rail floating and sleeper floating) by field test to analyzing dynamic effect of track structure's characteristic and wheel load on service line. In addition, it suggested a method to generate reasonable track impact factor on each track type.

Modelling the dynamic response of railway track to wheel/rail impact loading

  • This paper describes the formulation and application of a dynamic model for a conventional rail track subjected to arbitary loading functions that simulate wheel/rail impact forces. The rail track is idealized as a periodic elastically coupled beam system resting on a Winkler foundation. Modal parameters of the track structure are first obtained from the natural vibration characteristics of the beam system, which is discretized into a periodic assembly of a specially-constructed track element and a single beam element characterized by their exact dynamic stiffness matrices. An equivalent frequency-dependent spring coefficient representing the resilient, flexural and inertial characteristics of the rail support components is introduced to reduce the degrees of freedom of the track element. The forced vibration equations of motion of the track subjected to a series of loading functions are then formulated by using beam bending theories and are reduced to second order ordinary differential equations through the use of mode summation with non-proportional modal damping. Numerical examples for the dynamic responses of a typical track are presented, and the solutions resulting from different rail/tie beam theories are compared.

  • In designing the high-speed railroad track, it is important to utilize appropriate track components to maintain uniform stiffness and ensure track alignment within the tolerance set for that system. In this regard, continuous welded rails (CWRs) were introduced to the Korean railways. Yet the installation of CWRs can result in an adverse impact due to the track/structure interaction on bridge sections yielding variations in the stiffness at the expansion joints. It may also impose additional axial force, generate excessive stress or deflection on track, and loosen the ballast at the ends as a bridge deck contracts or expands owing to a thermally-induced dynamic response. The risk is even greater in a long bridge deck, resulting in track longitudinal irregularities, deteriorating passenger's comfort, and increasing maintenance efforts. This study evaluates the performance of ZLR and their impact on track longitudinal irregularities through the track measuring results on a test section installed the ZLR in order to minimize the thermally-induced responses and the maintenance efforts for the high speed railway bridges.

  • The track performance evaluation in curves of conventional line subjected to loading condition caused by tilting trains was carried out. And the correlations between train speed and track alignment was reviewed. The parameters of track alignment were determined by field investigation of all curves in conventional line. It was founded that the pressure of the rail did exceed the allowable stress when the tilting train speed was over 96km/hr in radius of 300m. As the radius of curvature is smaller, applied force on the track becomes larger in the curved track without regard to laying of the continuos welded rail. On the while, the change of applied force on the track corresponding to the change of the cant is not so large.

  • Turnout is a mechanical installation enabling railway trains to be guided from one track to another at a railway junction. A movable nose crossing frog is a device used at a railway turnout to eliminate the gap at the common crossing (High manganese, block, assembly crossing)which can cause impact damage, noise and vibration. Our government has a plan speed up of conventional line to 250km/h semi-high speed. We had already developed flexible turnout with fixed crossing(High manganese) and SFC fastening system can cover in the semi-high speed line In this study is about development of the movable nose crossing turnout available Semi-high speed line on concrete track. This paper describes about geometry, attack angle, bending stress at the nose, switching force, safety of continuous welded long rails. This movable nose crossing turnout is expected greatly increases passing speed of turnout in national railway.

  • The rail inclination produces a wider bearing area between the wheel and the rail by moving the wheel rail contact area away from the gauge towards the centre of the railhead, thus improving the wear pattern of the railhead and wheel treads. It is essential to keep the rail inclination within the allowable range to ensure optimum track geometry. Neglecting the rail inclination geometrical parameters in a track quality evaluation can cause safety of railway vehicle and serviceability problems. In this paper, we examined the effect of the rail inclination in general geometry state of the railway track using VI-Rail and analyzed running safety when the railway vehicle passing through curves depending on change of the rail inclination and running speed.

  • In the case of railway freight, there's a lot of process at railway freight terminal. In these days, for operation efficiency improvement, Load/Unload planning is being carried out research. Load/unload problem can be classified as track assignment, container assignment, yard truck route problem, unload equipment scheduling, container yard plan. In this paper, we focus on track assignment and container assignment among the load/unload problem. we analysis information architecture to solve this problem. And we compares two precesses for existing method and optimization method of track/container assignment processes. An contents different analysis of two methods can shows reformation of an information architecture for load/unload process in the railway freight terminal.
