The Effectiveness Analysis on the Joint Use of Bulk Cement Car (벌크시멘트차 공동사용 효과 분석)

  • Recently, various attempts are made to increase the efficiency of railway freight transport including bulk cement, the most important transport item of railway transport market. The major seven cement companies have started common use of private bulk cement car since April 2008 for the efficiency of railway freight transport. At that time, major seven cement companies owned 75% of whole bulk cement car. Railway companies forecasted that this project will decrease the amount of cost and transport time of freight car. With these data, it analyzed the effectiveness of the joint use of freight car on actual used data.

  • During the past few years, several incidents of freight car wheel failure during operation have occurred due to fatigue crack and overheating from braking. Tensile residual stress on the wheel tread creates an environment conducive to the formation of thermal cracks that may threaten the safety of train operations. It is important to investigate the residual stress on wheels in order to prevent derailment. In the present paper, the residual stress on wheels is measured using the x-ray diffraction system and the residual stress is analyzed using FEM. The result shows that the residual stress on the wheel rim is lower than that on the wheel tread center and the stress on over-braked wheels changes from compression residual stress to tensile residual stress.

  • THE CARBODY AND BOGIE FRAME OF AN URBAN RAILWAY VEHICLE CONSIST OF MULTI-LAYERED WELDING STRUCTURE. IN KOREA ENDURANCE LIMIT OF AN URBAN RAILWAY VEHICLE IS STSTED IN THE RULE OF MANAGING URBAN RAILWAY VEHICLE UNDER THE LAW OF URBAN RAILWAY. IN KOREA AN URBAN RAILWAY VEHICLE IS DESIGNED AND MADE TO KEEP ITS QUALITY OVER 25 YEARS. WHEN THE RAILWAY VEHICLE BECOMES 25 YEARS OLD, CORROSION OF CARBODY AND UNDER FRAME OF A RAILWAY VEHICLE IS EVALUATED ACCORDING TO THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING. IT CAN BE USED AS LONG AS 40 YEARS. IT IS STATED IN THE ARTICLE 4 'THE METHOD AND STANDARDS OF PRECISE DIAGNOSIS' UNDER THE RULE OF MANAGING RAILWAY VEHICLE IN KOREA. SO, IN THIS STUDY, WE HAVE INVESTIGATED PERFORMANCE OF PULSED EDDY CURRENT TESTING METHOD BY MEASURING THICKNESS VARIATION OF FABRICATE OF CARBODY AND UNDER FRAME FOR URBAN RAILROAD CAR. AND THEM, THE PROCESS OF EVALUATING REMAINING LIFE ACCORDING TO TESTING OF CORROSION AMOUNT IS INTRODUCED.

  • Increased cumulative running times of railroad vehicle brings out such degradation as wear and fatigue. It don't adapt corrective maintenance which repairs a poor pan after a trouble but use preventive maintenance which fixes a bad part before a trouble. There were a few researches for preventive maintenance such as inspect affairs and facilities management. They couldn't estimate the operation reliability on railroad vehicle. Therefore, this study proposes the preventive maintenance procedure that predict repair period of end beam for uncovered freight car using reliability function and instantaneous failure rate on the basis of fatigue test and load history data.

  • In this research, safety requirements for guard rail, buffer stop, car stop scotch block, protection device, fire protection facilities, safety siding, escape facilities and inundation protection facilities are studied to establish a standard. First, various kinds of guard rails and their construction methods are investigated. Researches on the level difference of main track and guard rail, joint, length, and fastening force of guard rail are done. Second, the classification of buffer stop and car stop scotch block and its characteristics are examined, and the impact force, speed limit and capacity of buffer stop are summarized. Details of protection device, fire protection facilities, safety siding, escape facilities and inundation protection facilities are also investigated. From this fundamental research results, basic data on the safety facilities of railroad system are established.

  • This study compared KORAIL's procurement tasks with that of other companies. after analyzing the institutional and operational problems in procurement tasks especially in the respect of rolling stock and components which are KORAIL's major purchasing items, this study presented the way of purchasing cost Reduction through improving and streamlining procurement tasks.

  • With the opening of the KTX(Korean Train Express) in April 2004, Express Train service started in KNR(Korean National Railroad). Each KTX train consists of 18 passenger compartments in total, such as of 4 first class car and 14 standard class car. And 2 compartments of standard class are serviced as a unreserved seat only. The Unreserved seat system of the KTX is convenient to the customer who wants to take a train without making a reservation. This study was designed to analyze the unreserved seat system of the KTX which is currently used, and to investigate the necessary conditions for gaining in public favor by developing the system.

  • Recently, the demand for rail freight has gradually decreased. In particular, the demand in Korea for open freight cars, which classification includes gondola cars, hopper cars and gravel cars has been significantly reduced. The role of gondola cars in the rail transportation market shrank to 14.5% in 2010 from 23.3% in 2001. The transportation demand of gondola cars in the long term is expected to be reduced further. Because some gondola cars have been converted to container cars and various containers are being developed to transport bulk cargo by container cars. However, gondola cars still play an important role in rail freight transport. Therefore, the management planning of gondola cars is needed in order to prepare for the long-term declining demand. In this study, we propose a future direction for the management planning of gondola cars through the effectiveness analysis of gondola cars operation.

  • Personnel maintaining or repairing the railway tracks or signaling facilities around tracks may experience the sensory disorder when doing maintenance works at the trackside of railway for long time. In this case personnel maintaining at the trackside may collide with the train since they cannot recognize the approach of motor-car although it approaches to the vicinity of maintenance workplace because of the sensory block phenomenon occurred due to their long hours of continued monotonous maintenance work. In order to prevent such motor-car accidents that may occur because railway track workers are unable to recognize the approaching train, the safety alarm equipment is developed to make the approaching motor-car send radio signals and bidirectional detection mechanism between approaching train and trackside personnel. It shows the possibility of utilization in various forms of safety equipment for workers only to the safety helmet to be worn by the maintenance workers while using the configuration of transmitting/receiving sides. In the paper it is represented new alarm equipment, which is the bone-anchored speaker-based safety helmet to be worn by the maintenance workers.
