Objective: The objectives of this study were to measure pediatric organ and effective doses of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) for orthodontic analysis and to compare them to those of panoramic and lateral cephalometric radiography, the conventional radiography for orthodontic analysis. Materials and Methods: Alphard VEGA for CBCT, Planmeca Proline XC for panoramic radiography and Orthophos CD for cephalometric radiography were used for this study. Thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD) chips were located at 24 anatomic sites of 10-year-old anthropomorphic phantom and exposed during CBCT (C-mode; $200{\times}179mm$ FOV), panoramic and lateral cephalometric radiographic procedures at the clinical exposure settings for 10-year-old patient. Pediatric organ and effective doses were measured and calculated using ICRP 2007 tissue weighting factors. Results: Effective doses of CBCT, panoramic radiography and lateral cephlometric radiography in pediatric clinical exposure settings were $292.5{\mu}Sv$, $19.3{\mu}Sv$, and $4.4{\mu}Sv$ respectively. The thyroid gland contributed most significantly to the effective dose in all the radiographic procedures. Conclusion: Effective dose of CBCT was about 12 times to conventional radiographic procedures for orthodontic analysis in pediatric patient. The use of CBCT for orthodontic analysis should be fully justified over conventional radiography and dose optimization to decrease thyroid dose is needed in pediatric patients.
Dirofilaria immitis, the causative agent of canine heartworm disease, inhabits mainly in the pulmonary arteries and the heart of dogs and cats, causing circulatory and respiratory disorders. Although diagnosis of the disease is based on the presence of microfilaria in the peripheral blood or of specific antigens released from the adult worms into the peripheral blood, the severity of the infection and the assessment of disease progression are based on the clinical signs and radiographic image analysis. We analysed 12 mixed-bred Jindo dogs naturally infected with Dirofilaria immitis without any clinical signs and compared the radiographic images of the heart and the lung with the number of adult worms at necropsy. The dorsoventral radiographs of 12 infected dogs revealed that the right caudal lobar pulmonary arteries (RCaLPA) were dialated in 66.7% of dogs, whereas the main pulmonary artery segment was enlarged in 50.3% of dogs. The cranial lobar pulmonary arteries (RCrLPA) were dilated or pruned in 33.3% of dogs. All dogs displayed the interstitial lung pattern, while the vertebral heart size (VHS) was of normal range. Although a range of 9 to 166 adult worms (av. 45.6) was found in the pulmonary arteries, in the heart or in the vena cava, no correlation with the radiographic findings and/or with the clinical signs was observed.

Statement of problem. Initial stability of implant is an important factor for predicting osseointegration. It requires a rapid, non-invasive, user-friendly technique to frequently assess the implant stability and the degree of osseointegration. Purpose. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between the resonance frequency analysis (RFA) and the radiographic method for peri-implant bone change under in vitro conditions. Material and Method. Twenty implants of 3.75 mm in diameter(Neoplant, Neobiotech, Korea) were used. To simulate peri-implant bone change, 2 mm-deep $45^{\circ}$ range horizontal defect and 2 mm-deep $90^{\circ}$ range horizontal defect area were serially prepared perpendicular to the X-ray beam after conventional implant insertion. Customized film holding device was fabricated to standardize the projection geometry for serial radiographs of implants and direct digital image was obtained. ISQ values and gray values inside threads were measured before and after peri-implant bone defect preparation. Results. Within a limitation of this study, ISQ value of resonance frequency analysis was changed according to peri-implant bone change (p<0.05) and gray value of radiographic method was changed according to peri-implant bone change (p<0.05). There was no correlation between the ISQ value and the gray value for peri-implant bone change (p>0.05). But, in horizontal defect condition, relatively positive correlation were between ISQ and gray values(r=0.663). Conclusion. This results provided a possibility that peri-implant bone change may be evaluated by both RFA and radiographic method.

Introduction: Bone regeneration of cystic defects of the jaws after a cyst treatment requires lengthy healing periods. Generally, the bony changes are observed periodically through a visual radiographic reading as well as by the clinical opinion and radiographic images (panorama, periapical view), but it is difficult to compare the objective bony changes using only the radiographic density. In addition, it is difficult to observe minute bony changes through a visual radiographic reading, which can lead to a subjective judgment. This study exmined the bone density after the enucleation of a jaw cyst by fractal analysis. Materials and Methods: Eighteen patients with a cystic lesion on the jaw were assessed. Panoramic radiographs were taken preoperatively, immediately postoperatively, and 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after cyst enucleation. The images were analyzed by fractal analysis. Results: The mean fractal dimensions increased immediately after surgery and 3, 6 and 12 months postoperatively. The postoperative 6 and 12 months fractal dimension was similar to the controls. Conclusion: Fractal analysis was used to overcome the limit of a subjective reading during an assessment of bone regeneration after cyst enucleation.

Generally the patient's absorb dose and readability of radiograms are affected by the exposure time and kVp of which are related with the radiographic density and contrast The investigator carried studies to know the adequate level of exposure time and kVp to obtain the better readability of radiograms. In these studies dried human mandible with selfcuring acrylic resins attached with aluminum step wedge was used and readability of radiograms were compared with each other by videodensitometry among various combination sets of the exposure time, such as 5, 6, 8, 12, 15, 19, 24, 30, 38, 48 and 60, and varing level of kVp, such as 60, 65, 70, 80 and 90 respectively. The obtained results were as follows: 1. As exposure time and kVp were increased, radiographic density of radiograms was increased. 2. The subject contrast was increased where aluminum step wedge was thin and reduced in the reversed condition. At the thin aluminum step wedge, subject contrast was increased at the condition of lower kilovoltage than that of higher kilovoltage. 3. In the case of non-constant radiographic density, the radiographic contrast was reduced with the increment kilovoltage. The radiographic contrast was increased in the lower kilovoltage with the longer exposure time and the higher kilovoltage with the shorter exposure time. 4. At the condition of short exposure time, better readability of each reading item was obtained with the increment of the kilovoltage but at the opposite condition increasing exposure time worsened readability of radiograms. Since X-ray machine in the current dental clinics is fixed between the range of 60-70kVp and 10mA, good radiograms can be obtained by varied exposure time. But according to the conclusion of these studies, better radiograms can be obtained by using filtered high kVp and then the absorb dose to patient and exposure time can be reduced.
The author studied on the 115 cases of the ameloblastoma which had been diagnosed with biopsy during the period of 1962 to 1994 at the Kyungpook National University Hospital, Pusan National University Hospital, Youngnam University Hospital, Keimyung University Hospital, Catholic Medical School Hospital, and Maryknol Hospital. This study contains the statistical analysis of the clinico-pathological findings such as sex, age, location, chief complaint, duration, treatment method, size, recurrence and impacted teeth in relation to radiographic findings. The results were as follows : 1. The incidence rate was 60% in male and 40% in female. 2. At the time of diagnosis, the age of the patients ranged from 9 to 69 years old (average 31.4 years old). The cases of 73% were in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th decades of life. 3. The majority of cases, 88.7% occurred in the mandible, especially 59% in the mandibular angle area. 4. The most prevalent chief complaint of swelling was 56.5%. 5. As regards duration, the cases less than 12 months appeared 49.5%, and average duration is 30.45months. 6. Unilocular radiographic findings showed 43.5%, Multilocular radiographic findings appeared 56.5%. 7. Conservative treatment was performed 40.0%, and radical treatment was employed 60.0%. 8. There was the variation of lesional sizes between 2.0cm and 15cm, average size 6.19cm. 9. Recurrent cases were 28.7%, and impacted teeth were shown 30.43%. 10. The radiographic finding has no relationship with the factors of age, location, chief complaint, recurrence and impacted teeth, however there is slight indication that the below 30-year-old patient tend to be related to the multilocular type. 11. The multilocular radiographic findings were shown more frequently in the groups of females, over average of 30.45 months, over average size of 6.19cm and radical treatment.

The purpose of this experiment was to evaluate radiographic interpretation, of various sized 60 periapical and 60 cancellous lesions in 10 mandibular sections of 5 dogs according to kVp (65, 70, 75, 80 and 85 kVp). The results were as follows; The change of kilovoltage within 65kVp-85kVp range did not have influence on the radiographic interpretation of the same-sized bony defects at the constant radiographic density (p> 0.05). When the bony defects were less than the size of No.2 round bur, radiographic interpretation of bony defects prepared with No.2 round bur was easier than those prepared with No. 1 round bur at 80-85kVp in periapical region (p<0.05). However, in cancellous bone, this radiographic interpretation was easier at 65-75kVp (p<0.05). There were significant differences in the radiographic interpretation between the defects confined only to the cancellous, bone and the defects involved in the compact bone (p<0.05). However there were no significant differences between the defects confined only to the cancellous bone and the defects involved in junctional area of cancellous and compact bone (p>0.05). From the results of densitometric analysis, there was a difference in densitometric measurements at the same radiographic interpretation scores, and aluminum equivalent differences of 0.15-1.66㎜ thickness were needed for radiographic interpretation.
Purpose: To evaluate a usefulness of the simple radiograph in the patients with chronic shoulder pain 50 years and older. Material and method: 1152 patients with chronic shoulder pain and 100 asymptomatic individuals were involved in this study. All patients were 50 years and older. We excluded patients who had a history of fracture or dislocation. Radiographic interpretation was performed on a shoulder AP view, an axillary view and a supraspinatus outlet view. For statistical analysis, a chi-square test was performed. A p value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Abnormal radiologic findings were identified in 369(32%) out of 1152 patients with a shoulder pain: greater tuberosity sclerosis, acromial sclerosis, subacromial osteophytes are common abnormal radiologic findings. A rotator cuff tear or impingement syndrome was identified on a final diagnosis in 61(85.2%) out of the 76 patients with radiologic abnormalities in both greater tuberosity and acromion (p<0.05). Abnormal radiologic findings were identified in 18% of the asymptomatic individuals. Conclusion: Simple radiographic analysis is an important primary diagnostic tool in patients (50 years and old) with chronic shoulder pain.

This study was undertaken to document and better define this condition to help clarify this clinical and radiographic appearances by the analysis of clinical and radiographic features of cementoma. A study was made of a series of 104 cases with cementoma. This investigation of cementoma revealed the following features: 1. The female occurred in 73% of periapical cemental dysplasia and benign cementoblastoma, and 80% of cementifying fibroma. 2. 40% of periapical cemental dysplasia occurred in the fifth decades, and 73% of benign cementoblastoma during the second and third decades, while there was no age predilection in the cementifying fibroma. 3. 63% of periapical cemental dysplasia occurred in the mandibular anterior region. 91% of benign cementoblastoma and 80% of cementifying fibroma occurred in the mandibular premolar and/or molar region. 4. There were no cases complaining the associated clinical signs and subjective symptoms in the periapical cemental dysplasia, however the patient complained the pain in 36% of benign cementoblastoma and 40% of cementifying fibroma. 5. There were no cases expanding the cortical plates in the periapical cemental dysplasia, however 73% of benign cementoblastoma and all of 5 cases of cementifying fibroma showed the expansion of cortical plates. 6. Several radiographic features of the periapical cemental dysplasia were shown: a. 29% of the cases had multiple lesions. b. 53% of the cases were in the mature stage. c. During the osteolytic stage, the alveolar lamina dura was lost in 89% of the cases.

The author obtained the trans cranial radiographs of right and left side and the individualized lateral tomograms of right and left side after the analysis of submental vertex view from 8 young adults of 25-32 years with normal occlusion. The condylar position from 32 radiographs of normal TMJs were assessed with each measurement methods. All datas from these analyses were recorded and statistically processed with CYBER computer system. The results were obtained as follows. 1. In each measurement methods, the area measurements using the midpoint fossa and the midpoint condyle revealed the hightest concordance rate between the radiographic pairs. 2. In the subjective evaluation, the qualitative concordance existed in 44% and the full concordance existed in 25%, so it was found that concordance rates were relatively low between the radiographic pairs. 3. In each measurement methods, the area measurement using the midpoint fossa revealed the strongest correlation between the radiographic pairs. 4. The correlations between the area measurement using the midpoint fossa and subjective valuation revealed relatively strong value which is 0.926 in the trans cranial radiographic series and the lowest value which is 0.743 in the tomographic series.
