  • HANARO, 30 MW of research reactor, was installed at the depth of 13m in an open pool. The $90\%$ of primary coolant was designed to pass through the core and to remove the reaction heat of the cote. The rest, $10\%$, of the primary coolant was designed to bypass the core. And the reactor coolant through and bypass the core was inhaled at the top of chimney by the coolant pump to prevent the radiated gas from being lifted to the top of reactor pool. But, the part of core bypass coolant was not inhaled by the reactor coolant pump and reached at the top of reactor pool by natural convection, and increased the radiation lovel on the top of reactor pool. To reduce the radiation level by protecting the natural convection of the core bypass flow, the hot water layer (HWL, hereinafter) was installed with the depth of 1.2 m from the top of reactor pool. As the HWL was normally operated, the radiation level was reduced to five percent ($5\%$) in comparing with that before the installation of the HWL. When HANARO was operated at a higher temperature than the normal temperature of the HWL by operating the standby heater, it was found that the radiation level was more reduced than that before operation. To verify the reason, the heat loss of the HWL was calculated by Visual Basic Program. It was confirmed through the results that the larger the temperature difference between the HWL and reactor hall was, the more the evaporation loss increased. And it was verified that the radiation level above was reduced mote safely by increasing the capacity of heater.

  • Laser Transmission Joining (LTJ), which is a joining process of polymers by using different transmission rates of materials, was studied numerically. Unlike previous studies, energy loss by reflection at the surface was included. Besides, energy absorbed in the transparent substrate is also considered to increase the accuracy of the analytical results. Furthermore, thermal deformations of the substrates were also calculated. Temperature distribution of the substrates on the joining process could be effectively predicted by using the thermal analysis model developed, which could also analyze the rising phenomenon of the absorbing substrate by bulge effect. Calculated results show that temperature of the absorbing substrate is higher than that of transparent substrate when the laser is being radiated, and this temperature difference causes more thermal deformation in absorbing substrate, which results in the surface rise of the absorbing substrate. Comparison of calculated results with corresponding experimental results could confirm the validity of the numerical analysis model proposed.

  • It has been generally known that a hole presenting on the center of pole piece for the loudspeaker can be very helpful for the heat, which is radiated by Joule Effect at the voice coil, to emit to the outside of the magnetic gap. The existence of hole can also become a cause of the changes of the acoustical properties about the loudspeaker. The resonance frequency of loudspeaker increased with the increase of hole radius. However, increasing the hole length resulted in the decrease of the resonance frequency. These results are in an excellent agreement with the theoretical predictions for the equivalent mechanical circuit of Bass-Reflex cabinet system. The acoustical property of the loudspeaker with hole can be also predicted by the theoretical interpretation of Bass-Reflex cabinet system.

  • A gas turbine is the main equipment used in a combined heat and power plant. It generates a high sound pressure noise level. To reduce the noise level, an enclosure is installed around the turbine. The sound insulation performance of the enclosure affects the amount of external noise reduction. In this study, a sound transmission loss analysis is performed using the boundary element method to predict sound insulation performance according to the numbers and shapes of the supporter. Radiated noise analysis is also performed for the main external points of the enclosure using ray-acoustics. The results of these analyses are presented and a design plan is proposed that reduces the sound pressure noise level of the enclosure.

  • Electrical arc is the final stage of insulation breakdown and has high current density which cause heat and light in insulator. Insulator under electrical arc lost its insulating strength and eternal damages. Conventional criterion of electrical arc resistance in Standards have depended on the change of sound pressure and light color after damages on insulator by electrical arc. The recognition of these changes is done by human himself which was very subjective and resulted in some error to judge whether insulator has damages or not. This paper has shown that antenna method is the appropriate measure to judge electrical arc resistance for insulator. Antenna measures the electromagnetic waves radiated from tungsten electrodes with 6mm gap regulated by KSC2130. Applied voltage cross two tungsten electrodes have two different methods such as 1/8 10 and continuous 10mA. Signal amplitudes obtained by antenna has diminished after the damage of insulator, which will provide objective and good way to judge the electrical arc resistance.

  • The renewed interest in the use of hyperthermia in cancer therapy is bases on radiobiological and clinical evidence indicated that there may be a significant therapeutic advantage with the use of heat alone or combined with radiation or chemotherapy, There are many methods for generating heat for localized tumor as like radiofrequency, microwave, electromagnetic induction and ultrasound. But it is very difficult to be even thermal dose distribution and stable output of power and then the detection of temperature in tumor is difficult to be precise with thermocouples and semiconductor sensors. We designed the microwave heating generator, dipole antenna applicators and autometic temperature controlled thermocouples for localized hyperthermia on skin and in cavities. 1. The microwave generator with 120 W, 2,450MHz magnetron could be heating up to $40^{\circ}C\~50^{\circ}C\;for\;1\~2$ hours in living tissues. 2. The thermal dose distribution in tissue with microwave was described $42^{\circ}C\~44^{\circ}C$ with in 3 cm depth and $2\~6cm$ diameter area. 3. Skin surface heating applicator with spiral 3 times wave length antenna radiated high Power of microwave. 4, Intracavitary heating applicator with dipole antenna with autometic control temperature sensor kept up continuously constant temperature in tissue. 5. For constant thermal distribution, applied two steps power with 10W microwave after $17\~20W$ during first 10 minutes. 6. The cooling rate by blood flew in living tissue was rised as $10\%$ then meats.

  • In most RP processes, the inherent stair-stepped surfaces and shrinkage-induced warping of the parts require post processing such as surface finishing. To minimize such defects, VLH-ST, a newly developed RP process, employs a 3.9-mm thick expandable polystyrene (EPS) foam sheet and a hot wire to contour it to have slant linear-interpolated sides. The use of relatively thick sheets for layers, however, limits the process capability of constructing fine details, especially smaller than the layer thickness. This study is focused on the development of a post processing method fo fine details of VLM-ST parts. The post-processing tool was designed to meet all the requirements for the desirable post processing. It adopted a hot wire as a means of melting the EPS foam sheet. Various basic experiments on the post processing were carried out to obtain the optimal process conditions. The dominant process parameters such as the radiated heat input, the tool speed, and the gap between the tool tip and the foam sheet (tool height) were considered in the experiments. The effectiveness of the developed post-processing method fo forming or engraving fine details on the VLM-ST parts has been thus demonstrated. The experiments on engraving several sets of letters, such as CANESM, 인간, and 한국과학기술원, on the EPS foam sheet were carried out. In addition, a flowery shape was engraved on a three-dimensionally curved surface of a pottery-shape VLM-ST part.

  • This paper analyzes the combustion diffusion pattern when a water purifier is artificially ignited outside and inside in order to provide data to examine the cause of fire of a water purifier damaged by fire. The analysis result of the combustion diffusion pattern of a water purifier shows that the combustion diffused at a higher speed when it was ignited inside the purifier than when ignited outside. It took approximately 360 seconds for the water purifier to be half-burned when ignited on the outside, and approximately 180 seconds when ignited from inside. That is, it is thought that the internal combustion speed is higher because the internal ignition causes the generated heat to be accumulated and radiated instantly. It was observed that the water purifier damaged by fire caused by external ignition showed a uniform carbonization pattern and the carbide burned down at the bottom were gradually deposited. The water purifier damaged by internal ignition showed a relatively clear boundary of carbonized surface, which formed a V-pattern. The difference in the combustion patterns presents an objective base from which to determine where the fire started. By the time the purifier was half-burned by fire, the built-in fuse had not melted and the power supply protection device did not operate. In addition, as was found in the case of the fuse damaged by a general fire, carbonization occurred at the metal holder, and it is thought that this fact may be used as a basis from which to determine the cause of a fire.
