Effects of IR Reduction Design on RCS of UCAV (IR 저감 설계가 무인전투기의 RCS에 미치는 영향)

  • The role of UCAV is to carry out various missions in hostile situations such as penetration and attack on the enemy territory. To this end, application of RF stealth technology is indispensable so as not to be caught by enemy radar. The X-47B UCAV with blended wing body configuration is a representative aircraft in which modern RCS reduction schemes are heavily applied. In this study, a model UCAV was first designed based on the X-47B platform and then an extensive RCS analysis was conducted to the model UCAV in the high-frequency regime using the Ray Launching Geometrical Optics (RL-GO) method. In particular, the effects of configuration of UCAV considering IR reduction on RCS were investigated. Finally, the effects of RAM optimized for the air intake of the model UCAV were analyzed.

  • Recently, active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, electro-optical and infrared (EO-IR) and infra-red search and track (IRST) sensors are under development in the Korean fighter experimental(KF-X) project, and AESA radar is currently undergoing preliminary research for flight testing. This paper focuses on the flying test bed (FTB) aircraft operation cases of developed countries in accordance with AESA radar development. As a result, we review domestic laws and regulations related to the airworthiness for FTB aircraft to operate in domestic environment and look for ways to operate FTB aircraft. Therefore, we propose how to selecting, airworthiness and operating FTB aircraft suitable for the domestic environment.

A Weak Signal Detection Algorithm in Clutter Environment for Indoor Location Estimation based on IR-UWB Radar (IR-UWB 레이더 기반의 실내 위치 추정을 위한 클러터 환경에서 미약신호 검출 알고리즘)

  • Purpose: In this paper, a distance estimation technique for indoor location estimation using IR-UWB is proposed and researched. We propose an algorithm that can increase the SNR lowered due to clutter or noise in an indoor environment. Method: In order to clutter suppression and detect weak signals, we analyze the existing studies of background remover, correlation, and singular vector decomposition techniques and propose an algorithm. Result: The proposed algorithm, the average error was 0.57m up to 11.5m, and the error were 0.49m from 6m to 11.5m. the average error rate was reduced by about 1m compared to the previous study. Conclusion: It can be used as a technique for detecting weak signals in clutter and noise environments for distance or location estimation, and can also be used as a human life detection technique to reduce damage to people in a disaster situation by using UWB radar which has highly transparent.

  • A drone without attaching guns or bombs can be a dangerous weapon, since its motor speed is greater than 3000 rpm, which is similar to that of a mower powered by a LiPo battery. The anti-drone system is the only means of detecting and neutralizing drone attacks. Many defense companies around the world provide solutions using various types of equipment (for example, radar, cameras, jamming guns, and net guns). ETRI has also developed a Low-Altitude Drone Detection (LADD) system consisting of Ku-band radar and an Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) camera. In this paper, we summarize recent technical advances in anti-drone systems around the world and introduce the features and describe the performance of the LADD system.

  • Due to the inherent nature of the low flying UAV, obstacle detection is a fundamental requirement in the flight path to avoid the collision from obstacles as well as manned aircraft. In this paper, a preliminary sensor requirements of an obstacle detection system for UAV in low-altitude flight are analyzed, and the automated obstacle detection sensor system is proposed assessing both passive and active sensors such as EO camera, IR, Laser radar, microwave and millimeter radar. In addition, TCAS (Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System) are reviewed for the collision avoidance of the manned aircraft system. It is suggested that small-sized radar sensor is the best candidate for the smart UAV because an active radar can provide the real-time informations on range and range rate in the all-weather environment. However, an important constraints on small UAV should be resolved in terms of accommodation of the mass, volume, and power allocated in the payload of the UAV system design requirements.

  • Precipitation is the most important component and critical to the study of water and energy cycle. This study investigates the propagation of precipitation retrieval uncertainty in the simulation of hydrologic variables for varying spatial resolution on two different vegetation cover. We explore two remotely sensed rain retrievals (space-borne IR-only and radar rainfall) and three spatial grid resolutions. An offline Community Land Model (CLM) was forced with in situ meteorological data In turn, radar rainfall is replaced by the satellite rain estimates at coarser resolution $(0.25^{\circ},\;0.5^{\circ}\;and\;1^{\circ})$ to determine their probable impact on model predictions. Results show how uncertainty of precipitation measurement affects the spatial variability of model output in various modelling scales. The study provides some intuition on the uncertainty of hydrologic prediction via interaction between the land surface and near atmosphere fluxes in the modelling approach.

  • FOD refers to various metals and non-metallic foreign substances that pose a risk to aircraft. FODs occur in all areas and time zones, including runways, taxiways, and maintenance facilities, and pose a fatal hazard to aircraft safety during aircraft movements and take-off and landing. Rapid and effective detection and removal of FODs in the runway is required. As part of recent developments in aviation safety technologies, automatic detection of debris in runways in airports is under way. In this paper, we conducted an automated detection test using the EO/IR camera and radar at the Taean campus of Hansu University to confirm normal detection during the day and night.

  • 본 논문에서는 IR-UWB(Impulse-Radio Ultra Wideband) 레이더와 서보 모터를 이용한 실내 환경의 물체 위치(거리, 각도) 탐지 방법을 제안한다. 기존의 카메라나 적외선을 사용한 기술은 비용이 비싸고 장애물이 있을 시 측정이 어려워 정확도가 떨어지는 단점을 가지고 있다. 반면 IR-UWB 레이더는 저 전력, 저 가격, 소형으로 구현이 가능하고 광대역을 사용하여 투과성이 좋다는 장점을 가져 실내 환경의 물체 움직임 탐지에 적합하다. 하지만 IR-UWB 레이더를 이용한 물체 탐지 시 각도 측정 없이 거리만을 측정하기 때문에 물체의 정확한 위치를 탐지할 수 없다. 이러한 점을 보완하고자 레이더를 모터 위에 설치하고 모터를 180 도 회전시키는 방법을 사용함으로써 넓은 측정 범위를 가짐과 동시에 물체의 위치를 보다 정확히 탐지해내는 결과를 보였다.

Receiver for Ku-band Compact Doppler Radar (Ku-대역 소형 도플러 레이다용 수신부)

  • In this paper, Ku-band Receiver for compact doppler radar has been designed and fabricated. It composed of MWR(Microwave Receiver) and IFR(Intermediate Frequency Receiver) which have 5 receive path. We applied limiter circuit to protect MWR from Tx leakage power and maximum 2 W. IFR can change the Rx path to broad band or narrow band by MSC(Mode Selection Switch). It is observed that fabricated receiver performs 68 dB gain and 3.7 dB noise figure, 93 ns limiter recovery time. Proposed Ku-band receiver is expected to apply for Ku-band compact doppler radar.

  • Recently, the interests of the precise localization are rapidly increasing, which are linked to IoT(Internet of Things) sensors. The precise localization in indoor environment can be utilized in navigation, security, anti-collision, and various location based services etc. However, conventional positioning sensors, such as PIR, ultrasonic, microwave etc. are vulnerable to weather or insensitive to direction of subject movement or low precision performance. In this paper we implement a UWB-IR localization system for long distance and high-precision localization, which is not affected by temperature, light and weather. The proposed system was divided and designed by H/W, Antenna, S/W parts, each of which was designed based on an accurate analysis and simulation. As a result, we can implemented and verified UWB IR system with precise localization performance.
